Not the 13th

Not so long ago I had in mind to roam along individual avenues as they traverse the city from the Richmond to the Sunset. We will aim to do at least three of these over the course of the winter, and I wanted to start with the avenue that is not 13th: Funston. It would have been fun to do this **one-way** roam on Friday 13th, but it is too long for a Friday roam, and perhaps doing it on the 14th will be a way to soothe those of a superstitious disposition. This roam will start from Mountain Lake Park - we will meet at the playground bathrooms - and end at West Portal. Along the way we will be alongside Park Presidio Boulevard (the green strip connecting the Presidio and Golden Gate Park in the photograph); looping through the park; and ascending to the top of Golden Gate Heights, with an optional sand dune excursion on the way down. The latter half of this route will include some stairs and steep blocks, and there will be some dirt paths along the way. *Bringing water, snacks, and layers for all the microclimates is the way to go. Please check the forecast and look out for updates if it is going to be rainy. We may go ahead, depending on the conditions.* *These roams are offered by donation. They are one way I am able to pay my rent in San Francisco.* *Punctuality is always appreciated, for the sake of everybody's time. Please send a message on the app before the start if you are running late, and we will either wait (up to ten minutes) or I will direct you on how to catch up. Once we get underway I have to focus on those who are there, and most likely won't respond.* *Generally half the people who sign up don't actually show up on the day. In The Shadow Of The Bridge

I will be in the UK for the first week of November, celebrating my best friend's wedding, so the first roam of the month will be on Friday 13th. The Golden Gate Bridge occupies a special place in the iconography of San Francisco. This new route will not take us over the bridge, but around the approaches, checking out various little spots within the Presidio. We will do some climbing to get close to the top of Rob Hill, and there will be plenty of dirt tracks - and maybe a little off-roading. We will meet beside the Warming Hut at the west end of Crissy Field, at the benches away from the bridge. (Pedantry alert: since we will always be to the south of the bridge itself, there will be no actual bridge shadows cast on our route, but it seemed a poetic way to describe it). *Bringing water, snacks, and layers for all the microclimates is the way to go. Tennessee Valley to Muir Beach Loop

Fieldwork Berkeley Albany Waterfront Run

We will meet at one of the best breweries in the East Bay -- Fieldwork Brewing in West Berkeley -- their flagship spot. We will run roughly 3.6 miles on the SF Bay Trail through Golden Gate Fields and to Albany Waterfront Park (with a 5k available), and then we will return back to the brewery for beers and pizza (if you like). **3.6 miles** \-\- https://sites\.google\.com/view/fieldworkalbanywaterfront The meeting time is at 6:30pm, but we don't typically start our run until 6:40pm. There is typically plenty of free street parking available near the brewery and there is a bike station inside. BART is located less than 2 miles away. If you are unable to leave the bag at home, please coordinate with someone with a vehicle to store it in.
