Join us for an epic coastal mountain bike adventure at Pacifica! This ride offers a bit of everything - from sweeping ocean views to featured singletrack. (Hopefully) You won't be disappointed no matter your skill level! **!!! IMPORTANT !!!** * **HIGH EXPOSURE!** Portions of this route feature significant cliff/height exposure. If you are uncomfortable with heights, this ride is not for you. * **BEACH TRAFFIC** can be very unpredictable. It can take 2+ hours to drive from Pacifica back to San Jose. Plan your day accordingly. **Logistics** * **Meet location: Pedro mountain road trailhead** * **Parking: Street** * **Roll** **time: 9:30 sharp.** * **Cell signal: Probably Okay.** Send those "I'll be late" messages early anyway. * **Restroom**: Nature. **Lap 1: Scenic Cruise (10mi / 1500ft)** * **Route:** Climb San Pedro Mountain Road, follow scenic Old Colma Road down to the Devil's Slide bike path, and loop back to the start. (Note: If winds are high or the group prefers, we can swap Old Colma Road for *a less exposed but more technical trail* 🍄). * **Skill: Intermediate**. Mostly mellow, but singletrack sections include loose rock and tricky ruts. **Lap 2: Technical Adventure (2-9mi, 300-1400ft)** * Depending on the time and group energy we can pick 1-3 of the following trails. (sorted from short/easy to long/difficult) * **Option 1:** *A skill park*👦near the starting location with features for various skill levels. Very short and can do multiple laps. * **Option 2:** Starting halfway up the mountain, *a triple treasure hunt*💰 in a jungle filled with incredible features (that we WILL ride around...). * **Option 3:** Summit Descent down the *infamous 1.6km technical waterfall* (or most likely its milder sibling). * **Skill: Advanced.** Expect steep, loose, and rough terrain with mandatory drops and small jumps up to 2 feet. **Difficulty** * **Skill**: See route descriptions above. * **Fitness**: **Intermediate+**. Outside of the main climb up San Pedro Mountain, the profile is manageable. Lap 2 requires solid endurance, though. * **Pace: C**. Relaxed and social. We will climb casually, regroup at every intersection, and take plenty of session and photo stops. **What to bring** * **Helmet:** Must * **Steed**: A well-maintained **mountain bike**. * **Hydration + Snacks:** Expect a long day of riding. * **Tools**. Basic trailside repair kit. * **Long-sleeves + Gloves:** Recommended for overgrown brush * **Wind Jacket:** Coastal weather changes quickly **Group Rules** * **Members Only**: No guest riders allowed due to liability. If you want to bring a friend, please have them officially join WCMB before signing up. NOW THE NITTY GRITTY... West Coast Mountain Bikers is a group riding community. We don't encourage individuals to come out to our rides that want to do their own ride five minutes after starting with us. We start together and stick together. If you are new to our group, please take a moment to read our Ride Rating Guide, available at the link below. [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eml9bs3b9aPik-XF9EuazGouBVefExveQXBc58Nkl9o/edit?usp=sharing](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eml9bs3b9aPik-XF9EuazGouBVefExveQXBc58Nkl9o/edit?usp=sharing) All of our rides require a helmet and properly maintained mountain bike. Riders should be sure to read the description of the ride fully prior to their RSVP. Rides will vary by location and organizer, so be sure to sign up for rides that are appropriate for your skill and fitness level. If unsure if an event is appropriate, contact the event host prior to the event. If you have an existing medical condition please consult your doctor prior to joining an event.
