Digital Meetup: Sound Systems at the V&A
Fri, Jul 17, 4:30 PMIf you're interested in physical computing, creative electronics, and building interactive experiences with sound, you might enjoy this free event we're organising at the V&A on 17 July. Please note that this is a **drop in event**. Registering here helps us estimate numbers, but it **does not guarantee a place** in individual activities, which will be available on a **first come, first served** basis throughout the evening. **Digital Meetup: Sound Systems** brings together artists and creative technologists exploring physical computing, electronic textiles and livecoding. While this isn't an Arduino focused meetup, several of the activities explore physical computing through sound, including electronic textiles, capacitive touch sensing, interactive musical instruments and creative coding. The programme includes: • Building touch responsive instruments with Tom Fox using the new SPOKE board. • Making soft circuits and exploring Lia Mice's textile synthesiser *Soft Cymatics*. • Learning visual livecoding with Mike Cook using Magpie. • Creating algorithmic music with Nadezhda Khalid using Strudel, followed by an informal livecoding jam. There will also be an informal space for Show and Tell if you'd like to share a project you're working on, especially anything related to sound, music or interactive technology. Full information on the V&A event page here: https://www.vam.ac.uk/event/yA068beXnvA/digital-meetup-july-2026 It would be great to see a few members of the London Arduino community there.

An Exploration of Human Expression and Its Future
Fri, Jul 10, 6:00 PMWhat makes us human, and what do we risk losing when AI begin to mirror our most intimate forms of expression? As AI becomes woven into our everyday workflows, from vibe coding to documentation, it's easy to focus on efficiency. But what about the rest of our lives? This session invites you to slow down and turn your attention toward something deeper: the arts. Dancing, singing, drawing, making, not as hobbies, but as expressions of something fundamental about who we are and where we come from. Whether you're excited about what AI can create, cautious about what it might erode, or somewhere in between, this conversation is for you. We're not here to reach consensus. We're here to share our views and think together. **What we'll explore** Inspired by the [Centre for Humane Technology](https://www.humanetech.com/ai-and-humanity)'s report *Preserving What Makes Us Deeply Human in the Age of AI*, we'll explore questions around why we create. What role does art play in our lives, not just aesthetically, but psychologically, socially, and spiritually? And as AI enters these spaces, what questions should we be asking ourselves? **From reflection to practice** We won't leave it abstract. Towards the end of the session, we'll bring the conversation back to our work as UX Designers and Researchers, exploring how these reflections can meaningfully shape the way we design, research, and lead. *** **🎓 A moment of celebration** We'll close the evening by celebrating the nine fellows who have completed the third [Responsible Design for Change Fellowship](https://www.ux4change.org/responsible-design-for-change-fellowship/) cohort. Their dedication to advancing social impact at the East London Waterworks Park, while deepening their practice in regenerative design and leadership, is worth sharing with our UX for Change community. *** **🎟️ Free spots available** We believe access to these conversations matters. If you'd like to be considered for one of the 7 free tickets, please fill out this short form: 👉[https://forms.gle/YgPFKeSXtZDMVaVU9](https://forms.gle/YgPFKeSXtZDMVaVU9)

Screen Printing as Protest
Sun, Aug 2, 9:00 AM### Workshop Description ***Print as Protest*** is an accessible introduction to screen printing that explores the rich history of printmaking as a tool for activism, social movements, and political expression. Central to the workshop is an exploration of the power of text: how words, slogans, and statements can become images in their own right. Through typography, scale, repetition, and graphic composition, text can communicate urgency, solidarity, resistance, and hope. From protest placards and political posters to artist manifestos and public interventions, printed language has long been used to challenge authority, amplify marginalised voices, and mobilise communities. Participants will examine how artists, activists, and designers have transformed text into compelling visual forms, considering not only what messages are communicated but how they are seen, felt, and remembered. Through discussion and practical experimentation, participants will develop their own graphic responses to contemporary issues, translating words and ideas into bold printed works. From suffragette posters and labour movement graphics to contemporary climate activism and social justice campaigns, the workshop examines how printed images have long been used to communicate ideas, challenge power, and build collective voices. Beginners are warmly welcomed, and all technical processes will be demonstrated step-by-step. **Audience** This workshop is suitable for: * Complete beginners * Artists and makers interested in printmaking * Community activists and campaigners * Anyone interested in visual culture, social history, and creative expression **Learning Outcomes** By the end of the workshop, participants will: * Understand the basic principles and history of screen printing. * Explore examples of protest and activist printmaking. * Develop a simple graphic design or slogan suitable for screen printing. * Learn how to prepare artwork for a screen. * Gain hands-on experience in printing using screen printing techniques. * Produce a small edition of prints to take home. * Reflect on the role of printmaking as a form of communication and resistance. **Materials** All basic materials and equipment will be provided, including: * Screens and squeegees * Water-based inks * Printing paper * Design materials and reference images * Protective aprons and cleaning supplies Participants may bring sketches, photographs, slogans, or source material related to a cause or issue they would like to explore. **Accessibility** The workshop is designed to be welcoming and supportive for participants of all experience levels. Demonstrations will be broken down into clear stages, with individual guidance provided throughout the day. **Course Aim** To introduce participants to the creative and technical possibilities of screen printing while exploring its historical and contemporary role as a powerful medium for protest, ***Image as text,*** advocacy, and public expression.
