Columbia DSL Summer of Prototyping Immersive Experiences

Join Columbia DSL for a summer of making, testing, and imagining together. This meetup opens the door to the Dead Internet Museum, a growing collective project that will become a 10,000-square-foot installation at MAD Arts this fall. We’re inviting artists, students, designers, technologists, storytellers, and curious people of all kinds to step into the process early. Come meet new collaborators, try things before they are finished, share ideas, build small experiments, and help shape the world of the project as it comes to life. No special background is needed. Just bring your curiosity, your point of view, and a willingness to make something strange with others. The session will be followed by an open discussion on designing, producing, and funding immersive works. Special guests include Nick Fortugno (Director Gaming Pathways, CUNY), Shar Simpson (Artist & Educator, Columbia DSL), and Lance Weiler (artists & Columbia DSL Director)

An Intro to Soldering

Welcome to our soldering basics class! This class is for beginners and designed to teach you a few important fundamentals on soldering, an essential skill for anyone interested in electronics or DIY projects. We’ll go over solder types, soldering temperatures, and basic through hole component soldering. You’ll learn techniques and tips on how to properly flow solder into a joint, and how to inspect it to ensure you have a good connection. All of this will be taught on a custom circuit board designed for practicing a variety of different circumstances and techniques, which is yours to take home after the class. No experience is necessary, and all equipment and tools will be provided for you to use during the class. The class will run around 1.5-2 hours.

WTF (Weekly Tuesday Folders)

**NEW LOCATION:** OMG NYC (Origami Meetup Group! New York City) is a group for people to come together and share in the beautiful art of Origami - an ancient art of folding various mediums, most commonly paper. The word comes from the combination of the Japanese verb oru (to fold) and the noun kami (paper). Other materials often folded are fabric, wire mesh, sheet metal, tissue, thin plastic, cardboard, and straws. We meet as a group to teach each other new models and share paper, books, and tips. This meeting is free and open to all level of folders from beginners to advanced. There will be free paper available to share. You can bring your own paper and books, so you can just show up and fold! If you have models you would like to learn, or teach, let us know and we will try our best to accommodate. OMG NYC's WTF (Weekly Tuesday Folders) meetup is now located at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library at 455 5th Avenue. The meeting is on the 3rd floor in room 303. **AWOL (After Work Origami Lovers) with us at Whole Foods on Madison Avenue and East 28th Street, UPSTAIRS in the dining area.** After a long week what could be better than meeting with friends and potential new friends to fold your work week away! It should be a lot of fun and more intimate than our once a month big meetings. A great place to learn some new models and also get help on models you're been stuck on. Bring your latest folds and creations for show and tell and your favorite models to teach and learn. This meeting is free and open to all level of folders from beginners to advanced folders. Bring paper and your books and also there will always be free paper available so you can just show up and fold! Please try to RSVP so others will know you will be there.
