Aug 22 Learn American Mahjong Workshop
Sat, Aug 22, 2:30 PMThis professionally designed workshop is perfect for beginners looking to learn American Mahjong, with instructor to guide you every step. ### **🀄** **Learn To Play American Mahjong** 🎉 Are you looking to learn American Mahjong specifically? Or are you already a Mahjong player, curious how different the American version really is? It’s hard to find a place to learn and play American Mahjong in London — that’s why our Mahjong school has expanded to include it. ### **✅ American Mahjong Is Unique!** We play most Mahjong styles at our club, and people often ask if we have a preference, or what really sets them apart. Chinese Mahjong is our root, but American Mahjong brings entirely new rules and fun mechanics like the Charleston. And let’s not forget the stylish tiles and mats — we’ve imported sets straight from the US, because if you’re playing American style, you’ve got to complete the whole look! ### **✅ What Will You Learn?** Starting from the fundamentals of American Mahjong — tile recognition, game setup, reading the National Mah Jongg League card, and, most importantly, how to play a full game with confidence. 🀄 **No prior experience required** — just bring your curiosity and a willingness to learn! 😊 American Mahjong isn’t as beginner-friendly as Chinese Mahjong. This first workshop covers all the foundations, but you’ll want two more sessions to really get comfortable — that’s what our own learning and teaching experience has taught us. It took us around 100 hours of play to get truly confident, which is why we’ve split the tutorials into three parts to help you graduate. ### 🎓 Three Sessions to Graduate • **Workshop 1** — How to play a full game • **Workshop 2** — Strategies in different stages • **Workshop 3** — Scoring and being flexible Ideally, you’ll join our Learner workshop three times, and we’ll update your tutorial along the way to help you graduate. Just as important: **learn by playing**. After covering the basics, you’ll practice with other players at the table for real game experience in a supportive environment. Our experienced instructor will guide you every step of the way — ask questions anytime! ### **📦 What's Included?** ✔️ **Mahjong Instructor** – Friendly expert guidance while you learn ✔️ **Mahjong Worksheets** – Step-by-step support designed for beginners ✔️ **Free Tea & Coffee** – Sip and play ☕ ✔️ **Festive Treats** – Enjoy special Asian snacks (when available!) 🍡 ### **🧑🤝🧑 A Social Game In A Social Space** Mahjong isn't just about strategy—it's about connection. Come solo or bring friends and family! Our workshops are welcoming, inclusive, and full of good vibes. You might even leave with new Mahjong buddies. ✨ 🧩 **Note:** While Mahjong is traditionally played with four players, there may be times when table numbers don’t divide evenly. In those cases, we’ll either combine players across tables to form full games or teach you how to enjoy 2- or 3-player Mahjong variations—so you’ll always get maximum play time and fun. ### 📅 **Event Details** 📍 **Where:** Aldgate Tower (just outside Aldgate East Station, Exit 1) 👋 **When:** Every other Saturdays 3:30-5:30pm 📝 **Includes:** Worksheets, expert guidance, tea & coffee, and unbeatable vibes ### **Visiting Us** 1. Each attendee must be registered to our building in addition to the Eventbrite ticketing. If you book two tickets, we will need both individuals’ full names and email addresses for registration. 2. On **Friday of the same week**, you will receive an email from Aldgate Tower with your **building entry invitation**. This email includes a **unique visitor QR code**, which you’ll need to scan at the ground floor speed gates. Then, head straight up to the **6th floor**, where we’ll be ready to welcome you. 3. Please check your **spam or junk folder** if you don’t see the email. Still nothing? Send us a message / whatsapp us on +44 7423 755734 , and we’ll assist you promptly. **Come and meet us!** [Dear Asia London](https://dearasia.co.uk/ "https://dearasia.co.uk/") is a school for Asian languages and cultures. Sat, Aug 22, 10:00 AMJoin us for a 'painting landscapes' workshop run by illustrator Jess Nash.
