Community Conversations: Creating Prosperity for Posterity

Community Conversations: Creating Prosperity for Posterity

Fri, Oct 23, 8:30 AM
From Community Conversations
4.9

What if prosperity was measured not only by what we gain, but by what we leave behind? We often think of prosperity as success, security or material wellbeing. But what gives life a deeper sense of fulfilment, and how might our understanding of prosperity change when we consider its impact beyond ourselves? Through stories and shared conversation, this evening will explore ideas such as contentment, sacrifice and legacy, inviting us to consider what it means to live well today while contributing meaningfully to those who come after us. Community Conversations provides an inclusive space where people from all backgrounds and beliefs are welcome. Each session includes a short presentation, followed by shared group consultation, where we can explore the theme together, along with time to connect, socialise, and enjoy light refreshments. This is a free event and all are invited to attend.

**posit::conf(2026) %>% glimpse()** **Date:** 29th October, 2026 **Time:** 5:30 PM (networking and refreshments from 5:30 PM; talk begins at 6:00 PM) **Where:** DiUS, Level 3/31 Queen St, Melbourne Curious about how involvement in open source, community building, mentoring, advocacy, or volunteering can open unexpected doors in your career? Wondering how people find their way into international conferences, scholarship opportunities, and global professional networks, and what role community participation plays along the way? Join us for a conversation with Dionne and Mansi, who attended **posit::conf(2026)** in Houston, Texas as **Opportunity Scholars**. This session is not just about the conference itself. It is about the communities, relationships, and contributions that helped make the opportunity possible. They will share their journeys through open source and community involvement, and the value of networking, building meaningful professional connections, and contributing to communities in ways that create impact for both oneself and others. Along the way, they will share some of their favourite moments from the conference, lessons from meeting people across the global data science ecosystem, and insights that stayed with them long after the conference ended. Whether you're new to the R community, considering your first conference application, interested in open source, or simply curious about building a more connected and community-focused career, we'd love to see you there!

Since launching The Eco-Impact Tribe over a year ago, we’ve explored different aspects of sustainability together. Now, it’s time to go a little deeper. Introducing **Living the Circle**, a five-part awareness series exploring the circular economy. For our first session, **Circular Economy INSIDE**, we’ll explore what a circular economy really means, why it matters and how it connects to our everyday lives. I’m delighted to co-facilitate this series with Osh, a sustainability professional with a Master’s in Sustainability from Deakin University and a research background in circular economy and food waste management. This isn’t about sitting through a lecture! Expect relaxed conversations, interactive activities, questions, a few games and plenty of opportunities to exchange ideas, expand our thinking and learn from each other. 🌱 To keep the conversation interactive places are limited to around 20 people. 📍 **Meeting Point:** Au79 Café, Abbotsford ☕ **Plan for the afternoon** * **1:00 pm** \| Arrival\, food and drink orders\, and casual introductions * **1:30 pm** \| Fun\, interactive activity * **2:00 pm** \| Group discussion and sharing ideas * **3:00 pm** \| Wrap\-up To support the venue, please purchase a coffee and/or something to eat. 😊 📸 A few photos may be taken for community sharing. If you’d prefer not to be included, just let the host know at the start.
