Animals sold in Petco, Petsmart, and other pet stores come from horrifically cruel breeding mills and some species are even kidnapped from their habitats in the wild. Goodbye to Summer -- Ferry trip to Angel Island

Summer is getting to end, the labor long weekend is coming. Have you made up your plan yet? If not, come with us to take a **ferry** trip to the Angel Island state park, in the **middle** of the bay, in this coming Sat. Aug 29th. We have crossed long distance since then, walked in most of the major events and parades in the city, and volunteered in many: The Chinese New Year, Cherry Blossom, the Carnaval, the Pride, North Beach, Fillmore Jazz, Nihonmachi Japantown, Stern Grove, etc. etc.. Also the local festivals, the state park volunteering, and the local Golden Hour walks ... It is a time to look back, it is also more a time to look **forward**. At the turn of the season, we would like to invite our alumni, who have attended our events, and those who are interested in our future activities, to go with us, to take ferry together to visit the beautiful Angel Island at the center of the bay. In our recent events, we noticed a high percentage of new comers. So come to meet your fellow freshmen in bay area, and make some joint activity plans. There are a few options to spend the day on the island, there is around the island walk trail, there is a hike up Mt. Livermore, you can also visit the historic Immigrant jail on the island. We will discuss and decide on the ferry. The ferry ticket $20 for round trip already includes entry fee to the Angel Island state park. Dogs and drones are not allowed on the island. There is said to be a cafe on the island. We would go picnic together, so prepare some food and water with you. The first ferry leaves the Ferry Building at 10:15am, at Terminal B. **Note:** The subject tour is of one of the great works of architecture, art and art display in history. It was all created in San Francisco's Marina District, all built in only the two years of, 1913 & 1914. The PPIE ran from Feb.1915 to Dec. And then it vanished. Aside from Bernard Maybeck's Palace of Fine Arts, the re-creation of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor.and some remaining statues and sculptures, all we have left are photos, drawings and written descriptions and accounts of what was there in 1915. But the land this was all on is still there and accessible (except for the Doyle Dr. entry ramp area). By combining the land with the eupherma mentioned above we can virtually recreate in our minds eye what was here. So it is not lost if we don't want it to be! The first tours will develop a summary view that will enable more detailed tours come later. Join in this journey into something very special in the worlds of art and architecture. (An idea conceived by Willis Polk in 1891, that eventually had to overcome not only the devastating 1906 Earthquake and Fire, (which made San Franciscans even more determined to have the Exposition), but the start of World War I in Europe. A quarter of million attended opening day and almost twice that many closing day. Imagine how you would spend your day there in 1915. That's what our tour will attempt to do. As we walk a likely route, we would have chosen in 1915. We'll read descriptions of and look at photos of what was along our route. They were making a statement, in letting the world know, that they had successfully survived the 1906 Earthquake and Fire. In fact some very wealthy San Franciscans built mansions in Pacific Hts. just to overlook the PPIE.
