From South Bay Social Adventures: Food, Culture & Scenic Strolls
5.0

Join South Bay Social Adventures for a full-day coastal escape featuring hidden passageways, world-famous ocean vistas, fairytale architecture, scenic drives, and a few delightful surprises along the way. Think: European village charm meets rugged California coastline. Low-pressure. Scenic. A little sophisticated. A little spontaneous. **🌿 The Experience** We’ll begin in one of California’s most charming coastal towns—where hidden courtyards, art galleries, and winding alleyways sit just steps from the ocean. From there, the day unfolds along one of the most iconic coastal routes in the world. This is not a rushed itinerary—it’s a slow, intentional day designed for wandering, stopping, exploring, and actually enjoying the places we’re in. **🗺️ Flow of the Day** **🏘️ Carmel-by-the-Sea: Lunch & Wandering** We’ll start the day in downtown Carmel with lunch and relaxed exploration. **Expect:** * Art galleries and sculpture gardens * Boutique shops and hidden courtyards * Storybook cottages and European-style streets * A coffee stop to ease into the afternoon **☕ Coffee & Coastal Drive** After lunch, we’ll regroup and head out along the coast. **🌊 17-Mile Drive & Pebble Beach** One of the most iconic scenic drives in the world. Along the way: * Windswept cypress trees and rugged cliffs * Ocean overlooks at multiple scenic pullouts * Seal Rock, Lone Cypress, and panoramic coastal views * Wildlife sightings (deer, seals, seabirds) * Architectural marvels tucked into the coastline * Plenty of stops for photos and spontaneous “we have to pull over for this” moments. **🍽️ Waterfront Dining with a View** We’ll transition into a relaxed early evening dinner overlooking a world-famous golf course. Expect: * Golden-hour light over the Pacific * Coastal air and open views * Wildlife moving through the landscape * Applause as golfers attempt heroic shots * A relaxed, unhurried atmosphere **🌅 Sunset Fire Pits & Bagpipes** As the sun drops into the Pacific, we’ll gather around fire pits overlooking the coastline with: 🔥 Warm communal fire 🍎 Caramel apple cider with whipped cream 🎶 Live bagpipe performance 🌅 One of the most striking sunsets on the Central Coast **🍹 Optional Rooftop Nightcap in Carmel** For those who want to linger a bit longer, we’ll end the night at a hidden-gem Carmel spot for: 🍪 Warm homemade chocolate chip cookies 🌙 A relaxed final wind-down in town **🎟️ RSVP & Attendance** * Capacity is limited due to venue and reservation requirements * A $20 deposit is required to reserve your spot * You can send payment via Venmo using the link below: https://venmo.com/u/Takiyah-H11 * Your spot will be fully confirmed once we receive it. **🚗 Transportation** * This is a self-drive event by default * Optional carpools may be coordinated among attendees **🌿 The South Bay Social Adventures Vibe** This isn’t about checking boxes or rushing through stops. It’s about giving a full day to some of the most beautiful coastline in California—and experiencing it with good people, good pacing, and room for things to unfold naturally. Come for the scenery. Stay for the conversations, the quiet moments between stops, and the feeling of being somewhere that doesn’t need much explaining.

Pigeon First Aid & Companion Animal Care

Sun, Aug 16, 6:00 PM
From Direct Action Everywhere: People Who Love Animals
4.9

What if you could spend one afternoon directly changing the lives of animals who desperately need our help? Join us in San Francisco for a unique, hands-on experience where you'll learn how to rescue injured pigeons, provide life-changing first aid, and support companion animals living alongside our unhoused neighbors. Every day, pigeons in San Francisco suffer from a hidden danger: string, fishing line, hair, and other debris that wrap tightly around their toes and feet, causing immense pain, infections, and sometimes the loss of entire limbs. During this event, we'll teach you how to safely spot, catch, and help these incredible birds before releasing them back to their families and flocks. We'll also be carrying food and toys to share with companion animals belonging to our unhoused neighbors because compassion doesn't stop with one species. This event is about building a kinder city for all animals. Whether you're a lifelong animal advocate or simply someone who wants to make a difference, this is your chance to turn empathy into action. You'll leave with new skills, amazing stories, and the incredible feeling that comes from knowing you made someone's world a little better. No experience necessary. We'll provide all the training and supplies. Just bring: **Compassion** **Comfortable shoes** A willingness to help animals who are too often ignored Come discover just how much good one afternoon can do. ARRIVE ON TIME! We’ll begin promptly at 11am with a brief about essential safety and training. If you arrive late, we will be out and about and hard to contact and find so please be on time. **Meeting location: Powell Street BART Station** Questions? Whistleblower on Mass Graves @ Miranda’s “Rescue” - What Happened & What to Do

Whistleblower on Mass Graves @ Miranda’s “Rescue” - What Happened & What to Do

Sat, Aug 1, 6:00 PM
From Direct Action Everywhere: People Who Love Animals
4.9

Miranda’s “no-kill rescue” in Humboldt County has been exposed for shooting hundreds of dogs and burying them in mass graves. For over 20 years, Jennifer Raymond has been trying to hold the “rescue” accountable. Her concerns were ignored until she and her friend, Jenna Moore, snuck onto the property and dug up the bodies of eight freshly-killed dogs. This heart-wrenching situation is still unfolding and at this Meetup we will hear from Jennifer about her experiences and the history of her efforts to expose Mirandas. We will also hear from Kevin Johnson, founder of Coffee Companions, and Dan Martinez, founder of Adopt my Block, about how we can help hold Miranda’s accountable and how we can support legitimate rescue organizations. In addition to being a crucial whistleblower, Jennifer Raymond is the founder of the Humboldt Spay/Neuter Network and Humboldt Critters Without Litters.
