FREE Walk - A Summer Evening Walk Through Ashtead’s Forests

FREE Walk - A Summer Evening Walk Through Ashtead’s Forests

Thu, Aug 20, 5:00 PM
From FREE hiking, outdoor fitness, and social activities
4.9

As the evening light softens and the breeze picks up that gentle late‑summer charm, we’ll meet outside **Ashtead Station** at **6 PM** for a sharp 6:15 PM set off for approx.,15 km loop, keeping a **steady but companionable pace** as the day slowly folds into dusk. Bring your curiosity and good humor—it’s the perfect evening for spirited minds, warm company, and engaging dialogue as the sun goes down. Our route leads through the cool green hush of **Prince’s Coverts**, where the trees arch overhead and the fading sunlight filters through in warm, golden strands. The woods then open into **Claygate Common**, all wide air and playful breeze, the kind that makes everyone walk just a little lighter. A gentle wander past **Ruxley Tower** brings us to **Winey Hill Monument** — a modest rise with unexpectedly wide views, glowing fields, and horses grazing like they’ve been hired to improve the scenery. It’s a natural pause point: calm, open, and beautifully placed for watching the last colours of the day drift across the sky. We return across **Ashtead Common**, passing the Roman Villa site and drifting through ancient woodland as dusk gathers. The final stretch settles into that soft half‑light where footsteps fall in rhythm and the group moves almost instinctively together. A torch is recommended for the last mile. And once we’re back at Ashtead, we’ll head to a **cosy pub near the station** for well‑earned evening drinks — boots off, glasses up, smiles all around. Expect relaxed chatter, warm energy, and perhaps a few **goodbye kisses** blown into the night before heading home. ## **Group Etiquette** * Stay with or behind the walk leader to keep the group together and maintain a steady, safe pace. * Be mindful of your surroundings and respectful to fellow walkers, wildlife, and the environment. * This is a group event with route guidance only — no service is provided, and no risk is assumed or inferred by the organiser. * Participation is entirely voluntary. Please read the “About Us” section before signing up to understand the group perspective: [https://www.meetup.com/free-hiking-outdoor-fitness-and-social-activities](https://www.meetup.com/free-hiking-outdoor-fitness-and-social-activities?utm_source=copilot.com%20%22www.meetup.com%22) * The walk is free, the route will be guided, and all you need is a happy, friendly spirit with a contagious smile. * If you have any issues on the day, you can reach me on **07830 374629**.
