NY College Climbing Chalk & Talk

If you're a college student in NYC and either enjoy bouldering or want to try it for the first time, this is for you! Climb hard or barely climb at all — both work, and total beginners are genuinely welcome. And yes, if you have one and bring your chalk bag then we'll top it off with some free chalk — on us :). You can trickle in starting 4:00pm, where we'll be breaking off into groups of 3-4 to climb together, as well as go through a handout of some fun relationship-making questions that start light (think We're Not Really Strangers) and get more interesting from there (questions like: "Is what I'm pursuing actually worth it, or could I be missing something?", "Why does ___ make you happy — does it actually?") — all geared towards the goal of making real, deep, and lasting friendships in NYC with people our age. Afterwards, we'll probably grab something yummy to eat together in our groups if you want to join for that as well.

Columbia DSL Summer of Prototyping Immersive Experiences

Join Columbia DSL for a summer of making, testing, and imagining together. This meetup opens the door to the Dead Internet Museum, a growing collective project that will become a 10,000-square-foot installation at MAD Arts this fall. We’re inviting artists, students, designers, technologists, storytellers, and curious people of all kinds to step into the process early. Come meet new collaborators, try things before they are finished, share ideas, build small experiments, and help shape the world of the project as it comes to life. No special background is needed. Just bring your curiosity, your point of view, and a willingness to make something strange with others. The session will be followed by an open discussion on designing, producing, and funding immersive works. Lab Night - Musician's Collective

[NOTE - You may join any session, whatever day they take place - there is no formal grouping. If it's your first time, please reach out via DM here to confirm, and share what instrument, etc.] Open to acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, keyboards and vocalists. In this guided jam, we will play a large variety of songs from beginner to intermediate level at a location in Manhattan, midtown west neighborhood (near Port Authority). You can usually borrow an instrument, please confirm availability ahead. Rather than music lessons (and those are also available), what we supply is a playground for "talented amateurs" from beginner to intermediate level a chance to play with other people. We don't require a week-in, week-out commitment, but sign-up is first-come, first-served. We play most popular music styles (pop, rock, country, jazz, soul, folk, etc) and we'll try just about anything. As a group, we will work on specific songs we're focusing on, as well as try new things off the cuff. Bring in whatever you want! We will build week over week on certain songs. Clues, Spells, and Curses! Join dozens as they set out onto the streets of the Financial District; the site of graveyards, hauntings and some of the grizzliest deeds ever done! It will be a fun way to explore and socialize. We'll set you up on teams and give you everything you need to know to help find the clues. **How does it work?** If you come alone we will set you up on a team (or you can play with a team) and we'll give you everything you need to know to help find the clues. Each team will have 90 minutes to find as many of the clues we give you. When finished we will return to a set location for socializing. Prizes are awarded to those finding the most clues. **What are we looking for?** Lower Manhattan in the early 1600's till now has been the site of hangings, hauntings, massacres, explosions, and other not so nice and creepy things.
