The museum occupies two floors of Trent Park House, following the meticulous restoration of one of London’s grandest houses. On the ground floor, visitors will journey through magnificently restored and furnished rooms that were the backdrop to Sir Philip Sassoon’s socialite and political world, where he hosted some of the most influential statesmen, journalists, royalty and politicians in the 1930s. Come along on Wednesday 7th October for a tour of the Barings Bank art collection and archive! **About the collection & Barings Bank** Barings Bank was a British merchant bank based in London, and the world's second oldest merchant bank. It was founded in 1762 and was owned by the German-originated Baring family of merchants and bankers. The bank collapsed in 1995 after suffering losses of £827 million resulting from poor speculative investments, primarily in futures contracts, conducted by its employee Nick Leeson, working at its office in Singapore. The story was turned into a film called *'Rogue Trader'*, which came out in 1999. The Dutch bank ING, purchased Barings Bank in 1995 for the nominal sum of £1. The purchase included Barings extensive art collection and historical documents going back to its formation in 1762. We will have a 2 hour curator guided tour of the art that ING purchased from Barings. It is situated in the companies hallways and meeting rooms. **Please note: there is a limit on how many people we can take on the tour, so I will randomly draw 20 names out from the list of RSVP's 10 days before the visit. I will then let you know.** **Its only open to Full Members only.** **Cost** Tour cost is £7 donation per person (payable by cash or credit card on the day). The charge goes to ING's charities ([DKMS](https://www.dkms.org.uk/) \- a blood cancer charity & [Greenhouse Sports](https://www.greenhousesports.org/) \- a sports coaching charity\)\. Fancy a relaxed Saturday afternoon meeting new people in London? We’ll start with Saatchi Gallery’s free Art Mail exhibition, then wander across Chelsea Bridge to Battersea for coffee or drinks. The exhibition brings together thousands of watercolour postcards made by artists from around the world. It’s the final weekend to see it, and we’ll spend some time exploring together before heading over Chelsea Bridge to Battersea Power Station. We’ll finish with coffee or a drink and a chance to get to know each other. You’re welcome whether you’re interested in art or simply fancy an afternoon out with some new people. If you’re coming on your own, I’ll be there to welcome you and introduce you to the group. As Britain began to emerge from recession, a new dawn of optimism, freedom, and rebellion was ushered in, epitomised by a new generation of diverse creative talent. Seen through Edward Enninful’s eyes, this sense of opportunity resulted in art, design, fashion and photography fusing into one potent cultural force, signalling an audacious renewal of British spirit. The exhibition explores how long-held hierarchies were dismantled, with high art and pop culture feeding into one another, and reflects both the energy and the challenges of the decade, looking at the enduring influence of key figures who emerged during this time. What better way to spend a Friday evening during early darkness and likely miserable weather than taking in the painterly delights of joyous Parisian scenes, and go for a cosy drink afterwards! **Renoir & Love:** Renoir’s ultimate celebration of life and love, ‘Dance at the Moulin de la Galette’ is on display for the first time in the UK. Renoir is known for joyful social scenes, he loved painting lively gatherings of friends, dancers, and diners enjoying leisure time in Paris. The National Gallery are offering '**Pay what you wish**' entry to the Renoir & Love exhibition on some Friday evenings from late October onwards. Many slots on 23rd are already sold out so I suggest 18:15 on Fri 13 November. If this sells out by the time you book, try to go for a slot one earlier or later - we'll catch up inside the exhibition. I think this is an excellent way to see this exhibition because I certainly don't have pockets deep enough for the £25 standard ticket at weekend prices. The Getty entrance is for paid exhibition ticket holders.” – this is the ground level entrance, not the main portico with its steps, closer to Charing Cross Rd than the other entrances. Seeing as it’s Friday night, let’s go for a drink afterwards to socialise. The Horse and Guardsman pub on Whitehall has been good to us in terms of finding a table, we’ll try it (they do hot drinks and food too). There are other pubs in the area if it doesn’t come through.

This meet up was very popular last time, Come with me an on this enjoyable meetup, we will meet at Costa Coffee at Walthamstow Central at 11 am for a hot drink, after our hot drink, we will make our way to the William Morris Gallery., where the entrance is free. The William Morris Gallery is a museum devoted to the life and works of William Morris, an English Arts and Crafts designer and early socialist. It is located in Walthamstow at Water House, a substantial Grade II\* listed Georgian home. The extensive grounds of the building are a public park, known as Lloyd Park. Curiously, we have come across William Morris on other Meetup walks, namely Red House in Bexleyheath and Merton Abbey Mills in Colliers Wood. Water House in Walthamstow is where William Morris lived as a teenager. After visiting the William Morris Gallery, we will get a bus to The Ferry Boat Inn for lunch. For anyone who does not wish to have lunch in the pub there is an opportunity to visit Walthamstow Wetlands, London Wildlife Trust, across the road , where there is a cafe and tables outside where you can eat your own lunch. After lunch we will have a short walk around some of Walthamstow Wetlands then walk to Tottenham Hale Station, where you can get Overground and Underground trains. £7 meet up fee on arrival {please have the right change}.
