šŗ Friend of Dorothy Pottery Workshop with Lucas Buttchewits
Fri, Jul 17, 5:30 PM### Make Pots. Meet Gay Men. Make Friends. This **Friend of Dorothy event** is about bringing **gay men together in real life to connect, create and build genuine friendships**. Join ceramic artist **Lucas Buttchewits** for a relaxed, hands-on introduction to pottery designed for all levels. Whether youāve never touched clay before or already enjoy creative work, this workshop offers a welcoming space to try something new while meeting people through a shared experience. During the session youāll explore traditional **hand-building techniques** including pinching, coiling and slab building to create your own tableware or decorative pieces. Youāll also experiment with decorating your work using **leaves and flowers to imprint natural textures**, before adding colour and personality using painted slip. Lucas will guide you through every stage of the process from shaping and decorating your piece to understanding how it will be **glazed and kiln-fired** after the workshop. But like all **Friend of Dorothy events**, this isnāt just about the activity. Itās about creating spaces where **gay men can meet, talk and form real connections outside of apps and bars**. With a small group and a relaxed creative atmosphere, itās easy to chat, laugh and get to know the people around you. All materials, tools and firings are included, and your favourite piece will be **ready for collection a few weeks later**. Come get creative. Meet new people. Leave with something beautifully handmade and a little more connected ### Your Host Lucas Buttchewits is a London-based ceramicist and creative facilitator known for his relaxed, accessible approach to pottery. His workshops focus on making creativity feel easy and social, creating a space where people can switch off, try something new, and connect with others while working with their hands. Blending craft with community, Lucasā sessions are as much about the experience as the outcome, encouraging people to experiment, have fun, and leave with something theyāve made themselves.
