Join Plant Powered Metro New York for a restorative summer afternoon on the North Shore, featuring mindfulness practices, gentle movement, a bring-your-own picnic lunch, and community connection in a coastal setting. Led by Natalie Zolotareva, PPMNY Nutrition Educator, the morning will begin at the [Hempstead Harbor Shoreline Park](https://maps.app.goo.gl/NAxXHpWna2zZxAPe7) trailhead with a brief guided meditation focused on sensory awareness. Next, we'll take a mindful walk along a 4-mile out-and-back coastal path at an easy pace. The walk will include guided mindfulness prompts and opportunities for conversation. After the walk, we'll gather for a second mindfulness practice for sensory awareness through sight, smell, touch, and taste prior to enjoying lunch together. Please bring comfortable walking shoes, water, and a picnic lunch in a backpack to enjoy following the program. Each ride takes us to a different borough or neighborhood in search of the best pizza, hidden gems, neighborhood institutions, and legendary slice shops. Every event is a new route, new flavors, and a new excuse to ride. Our first ride kicks things off in Manhattan. We'll cruise through some of Manhattan's most iconic neighborhoods, stopping at several pizzerias to sample slices, compare notes, and answer the question that has divided New Yorkers for decades: Who really makes the best pizza in the city? Spoiler: We probably won't agree. That's why this is a series. **The Ride** * Approximately 20 miles * 4 or so pizza stops * Relaxed, social pace with frequent breaks * Plenty of opportunities for photos (of the city and the pizza) **Tentative Pizzerias** * L’industrie * Scarr's Pizza) * Mama's Too! * Patsy's (Route and stops may change depending on group size, weather, and wait times.) **Cost** Everyone pays for their own slices and drinks. The goal isn't to eat an entire pizza at every stop—it's to sample a variety. We will see ca. 30 murals of North American birds in the neighborhoods of Hamilton Heights and Washington Heights, where John James Audubon lived. Project is designed not only to help us appreciate the birds’ beauty, but also to make us aware of the climate change challenges they face. We also visit Audubon's impressive gravesite in Trinity Church Cemetery. Meeting place: 10AM outside The Chipped Cup, 3610 Broadway (W. 148th-149th). Beverages, food, restrooms are available indoors down the stairs. Nearest subway: #1 to 145th Street. End at Broadway & 164th near 168th stop of #1 & A trains.
