In addition to vibrant orchid displays and installations by Taiwanese artists, guests will have the chance to participate in hands-on cultural programming, including workshops on Ikebana, jelly flower art, dough figurine art, and orchid care, plus traditional tea ceremonies, and a Chinese diabolo (a type of yo-yo) demonstration." The East Village Secret Gardens
Sat, Aug 1, 5:00 PMLet’s spend a Saturday afternoon visiting many of the tiny but interesting gardens hidden on the streets of the East Village in Manhattan. **We can meet Saturday August 1st at 1:00pm on the corner outside El Churro, Allan Street and East Houston Street.** *Closest subway is the F train 2nd Ave. Station which has an exit right across the street on Allan.* Unbeknownst to many, there are quite a number of tiny creative community gardens between our meeting point and East 14th Street and most are only open to the general public on Saturday afternoons. I have a map showing 15 of them but I’m not sure we will be able to visit all or if all will be open. We should be able to visit most of them but we will need to walk quite a bit so please wear good comfortable shoes. These gardens have been created in vacant lots sometimes after struggles against developers wishing to build there. The community won most of these cases and the gardens now exist in perpetuity. Some gardens are more creative than others but most are quite worth a visit. Along with the gardens we will wander the East Village streets very often a great location for street photography. This will be a good opportunity to practice diverse genres of creative photography as well as some good physical exercise. _._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._._. This event is open to all members of the LGBTQIA community and their allies who are looking to connect, socialize, and build friendships within a safe and welcoming space. Whether you identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, or any other part of the LGBTQIA spectrum, you are encouraged to come and share in good food and great company and bring a friend. Bring a dish to share and come ready to engage in conversations, make new connections, and enjoy a sense of belonging within the Nutley community. Let's come together to celebrate diversity, inclusivity, and the beauty of our unique identities. This inaugural event will be located in the Spring Garden section of Nutley at our house. We will update those interested in coming with address information closer to the event. Please feel free to bring anything from a main dish, to dessert it can be homemade or store bought. So looking forward to building community in Nutley and the surrounding areas.
Coastal Mindfulness Walk & Picnic on the North Shore

Join Plant Powered Metro New York for a restorative summer afternoon on the North Shore, featuring mindfulness practices, gentle movement, a bring-your-own picnic lunch, and community connection in a coastal setting. Led by Natalie Zolotareva, PPMNY Nutrition Educator, the morning will begin at the [Hempstead Harbor Shoreline Park](https://maps.app.goo.gl/NAxXHpWna2zZxAPe7) trailhead with a brief guided meditation focused on sensory awareness. Next, we'll take a mindful walk along a 4-mile out-and-back coastal path at an easy pace. The walk will include guided mindfulness prompts and opportunities for conversation. After the walk, we'll gather for a second mindfulness practice for sensory awareness through sight, smell, touch, and taste prior to enjoying lunch together. Please bring comfortable walking shoes, water, and a picnic lunch in a backpack to enjoy following the program.
