SpeakIt Language Exchange: Meet friends, practice, and share a language!

SpeakIt is a group where the goal is to **practice and learn languages** naturally: By talking and meeting new people! 🥳 this, of course, includes English learners 😍. [Traducción](https://www-meetup-com.translate.goog/speakit-nyc/events/299532447/?_x_tr_sl=en&_x_tr_tl=es&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp&_x_tr_hist=true) We hope to have all the cultures that New York City represents, so we welcome **any language and all language levels**. Here's how it works: 1. 👨‍🎓You spend part of your time practicing a language you are learning; 2. 🧑🏻‍🏫You spend the other part of your time speaking in your native language, helping others! *(even if you only speak one language, that's fine)* When you arrive at the venue, we will have flag stickers 🇺🇳 representing any country of your choosing. Put your most fluent language on top and any language(s) you are learning or already know below. Then find someone else wearing a flag and say hi in your preferred language 👋🏼. **FAQ's** * 💰**Event is $2 (suggested, cash or Venmo)** to help cover the cost for the flags and the meetup subscription. * 🍻Please support the venue that hosts us by ordering something from the bar. 😎 * ***Will there be speakers of (my language) here?*** That depends! We don't organize who comes to the event, so we can't be 100% sure your language will be there. You may want to invite a practice buddy, or message us in advance and we can try to find you one. Otherwise come say Hi and find out! * **Can I show up late?** Show up any time during the event. * Coming alone? Welcome! Just bring a friendly face and some words. * Or feel free to bring along some friends, too. **When and Where:** * [Heart of Gold Bar](https://goo.gl/maps/csmu6MycKxirFvYv9), Astoria * Get off at Broadway on the N/W train or Steinway M/R. * Look for the flag table out back and say hi!

*In Person* Practice and improve your public speaking skills!

Note different room - 503 (Fifth Floor) New location! Meeting at Berkeley College, 3 E. 43 St. in room 503. We are moving the start up up a bit to avoid running up against the building close time (21:00) and potentially allow for more socializing. We are one of few Toastmasters clubs in NYC offering in-person meetings and we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity for in-person communication and networking. Interested in improving your public speaking skills? Want to meet new people and engage in interesting discussions? Hoping to make new business and life connections? If so we welcome you to attend the next Greenspeakers meeting. Greenspeakers is a Toastmasters club that was founded by Green Party members to provide a forum for engaged progressive activists and professionals to improve their public speaking skills. Guests of all political persuasions are welcome and we have no official connection to any political party. All attendees will have a chance to practice public speaking and will learn helpful tricks to become a more confident public speaker and communicator. Hope to see you there! Please note that our meetings require active listening and it's expected all in attendance will be respectful to each speaker by giving them your attention and refrain from making noise during speaking roles. Any who are disruptive or do not follow the behavioral guidelines of Toastmasters may be asked not to return.

Co-Working Session @ Bluestone

## Venture Garden Co-Working Sessions **Build independently. Work alongside other builders. Leave with momentum.** Venture Garden is a relaxed co-working session for entrepreneurs, creatives, operators, and curious people building something of their own. There’s no presentation, no pitch deck, and no pressure to network. Bring your laptop, notebook, project, business idea, or unfinished task. Grab a coffee or tea, find a seat, and spend focused time working alongside other people who are doing the same. The idea is simple: **individual work, shared energy.** You might spend the entire session quietly working. You might ask someone for feedback on an idea. You might meet a designer, founder, consultant, developer, or future collaborator at the table next to you. Both are equally encouraged. ### What We’re Doing Each week, Venture Garden works from a different café in Jersey City as part of our **Venture Garden Café Crawl**. We’re exploring the city while creating an informal network of places where builders can regularly meet, work, and connect. During the session, you can work on things like: * Building or growing your business * Developing a new idea or side project * Writing, designing, researching, or planning * Working through pricing, positioning, or customer questions * Applying for opportunities or finding clients * Getting feedback from another builder * Simply getting an important piece of work finished ### What to Expect The format is intentionally simple. **Arrive. Order something. Introduce yourself. Then work.** There may be a quick introduction at the beginning so everyone knows who is in the room and what people are working on, but most of the session is dedicated to **focused individual work**. Conversation is welcome, but nobody is expected to participate in a group discussion. Think of it less like a traditional meetup and more like a **temporary neighborhood workspace filled with interesting people.** ### Who It’s For Founders. Freelancers. Side hustlers. Consultants. Creatives. Remote workers. Small-business owners. People exploring their next idea. You do not need to already have a company. You just need something you want to work on. ### The Venture Garden Idea Venture Garden is building a local community around entrepreneurship, creativity, and action in Jersey City. Some connections may eventually turn into collaborations, businesses, friendships, clients, investments, or new projects. Others may simply be two people sharing a table and getting a productive hour of work done. Both matter. ### What to Bring Bring your laptop, notebook, headphones, charger, and whatever you’re currently building. Order something from the café, settle in, and work alongside us. **Build your thing. Meet good people. Explore Jersey City.** **Individual work. Shared energy. Real momentum.**

At West Side Talkers you will experience everything that a toastmasters club can offer and MORE! At our club, our members do speeches and we provide constructive evaluations, and we host table topics, thought of the day, word of the day, etc. (These are all part of the Toastmasters model) We take all the great things that are in the Toastmasters program and we take it up a few notches (well maybe more than a few!) so that we can bring more value to our members and guests. Below are the ADDITIONAL ITEMS that we have incorporated into our meeting agenda which add more value to our members speaking development. (not part of the Toastmasters model) SPEAKING TIP Where you will pick up a valuable Speaking Tip by a Certified World Class Speaking coach which you can immediately use in your very next speech. IMPROV COMEDY As a member of West Side Talkers we take you through "actual" improv exercises to help you develop your emotional expressiveness, characterizations, and your spontaneity in your speaking more quickly and efficiently. Improv can help you FAST TRACK your speaking development and do it WHILE HAVING FUN! COMMERCIAL MINUTE IF you were asked at a networking luncheon to get up and talk for 60 seconds about your business and what you do, would you be able to do it effectively? As a member of West Side Talkers we can help you learn how to deliver effective 60 second commercials. Please contact us via email if you have any questions about our exciting program. At our “West Side Talkers” Toastmasters public speaking meetings we encourage people to challenge themselves and get up and speak. However, we do not force anyone to do so. You can learn a lot by just attending our meetings. By just coming to our meeting you have made an initial step towards challenging your fears...!!!
