From Explorers & Connectors

Join me for an easy going walk and bird watching together at Albert Park Lake, an extraordinary wetland habitat and one of Melbourne's favourite nature spots. Whether you are new in town or looking to connect with other nature lovers this walk is a great opportunity to chat with new and old friends as we explore by the water's edge. We can enjoy the stroll together and sharing our birdlife discoveries along the way. We'll have time for photographs and to take in the magnificent views of the city skyline at the southern end of the lake. We'll finish up at the Coots Picnic area to relax, socialise and enjoy something to eat and drink. **Agenda** I will meet you at **2pm** on the lakeside of the Light Rail Tram Stop No.129 Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. We'll set off at 2.10pm to walk clockwise around the lake. We'll stroll past the wharves and Gunn Island and pause at the southernmost point of the lake. Then we'll make our way back to the Coots Picnic area for a snack and drink together. You can pick up a coffee and a snack at the nearby Sir Albert Cafe or bring your own favourites. This is an easy walk on flat pathways and the distance will be about 5.5km all up. The walking time is around 1hr 45mins including stops along the way. **Location** Light Rail Tram Stop No.129 on the No.96 Light Rail Tram line (Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre Tram Stop) There is free street parking available on Canterbury Road which runs beside the tram/light rail line. Parking Fees apply to all car parks within Albert Park. When you RSVP, please **click Attend** on the event page and I will be in touch via Direct Messages about the details. I will also be available in the Event Comments on the day.

Sunset Walk: South Melbourne Beach → Point Ormond Lookout

Sunset Walk: South Melbourne Beach → Point Ormond Lookout

Sat, Oct 10, 6:30 AM
From Melbourne Social
4.9

Join me for an easy sunset walk along the bay, from South Melbourne Beach down to the Point Ormond Lookout in Elwood. It's one of the nicest stretches of foreshore in Melbourne — flat path the whole way, water on one side, and a slow change of light as the afternoon turns into evening. We'll finish up on the little hill at Point Ormond, which gives you a wide open view back across the bay just in time for sunset. We'll meet outside the South Melbourne Life Saving Club at 5:30pm, say hello, and start walking together at 5:45pm at a gentle, chatty pace. It's around 5–6km and takes us about 90 minutes with a few pauses along the way. We'll arrive at the lookout around 7:15pm and hang around for the sunset, then wrap up about 7:45pm. This is a walk, not a workout — no rushing, and we stay together as a group. **Who this is for** * Anyone who likes an easy walk, good views and a relaxed chat * Beginner-friendly — no experience needed, just comfortable shoes and a reasonable ability to walk 5–6km on flat ground * People new to Melbourne or new to the group * Coming on your own? Perfect. Most people do, and it's a very easy group to fall into conversation with **Links** * Meetup start point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/hoKPsTmfawVMXmFY7 * Route we'll walk: https://maps.app.goo.gl/puZ2mKrQPsALrKEGA **Timeline** * 5:30pm – Meet outside South Melbourne Life Saving Club and say hello * 5:45pm – Start walking together at a gentle pace * \~7:15pm – Arrive at Point Ormond Lookout and enjoy the sunset views * \~7:45pm – Meetup ends. Optional food, coffee or ice-cream nearby afterwards, depending on the group vibe **Transport** * Trams run along Canterbury Road / Beaconsfield Parade near the start point — check the PTV app for the best route from where you are * Getting home: Point Ormond is a short walk from Elwood's bus and tram connections, or roughly 20 minutes on foot back up to St Kilda if you'd rather stretch it out **Bring** * Comfortable walking shoes * A water bottle * A light jacket or windbreaker — it gets noticeably cooler by the water once the sun drops * A hat and sunscreen for the earlier part of the walk * Some cash or card if you want to join the optional food/coffee/ice-cream afterwards **Expect** * Difficulty: Easy. Flat, sealed foreshore path the whole way * Distance: Around 5–6km, roughly 90 minutes of walking * Pace: Gentle and social. We stop when we want to, and nobody gets left behind * Vibe: Relaxed, chatty, no pressure * Group style: Friendly and welcoming, with plenty of new faces each time **Important notes** * The walk itself is completely free. There's nothing to book and nothing to pay * Anything you buy afterwards (food, coffee, ice-cream) is your own call and at your own cost * Please arrive by 5:30pm so we can set off together at 5:45pm — once we're walking, it's hard to catch the group * Weather dependent: I'll check the forecast closer to the day and post an update here either way, so keep an eye on the event page * The foreshore path is shared with cyclists, runners and skaters. Please stay to the left, keep an ear out, and be mindful when we're walking in a bigger group * It'll be getting dark by the time we finish, so plan how you're getting home * Please walk within your own ability and look after yourself on the day — you're joining at your own risk and you're responsible for your own safety and wellbeing * If your plans change, please update your RSVP so numbers stay clear

Exploratory Long Walk - Keilor to Melbourne CBD 25km+

Exploratory Long Walk - Keilor to Melbourne CBD 25km+

Fri, Oct 9, 11:00 PM
From Eat, Drink and Dance Melbourne
4.6

This will be a very long exploratory walk 25km+ from Keilor Shopping centre along green corridors to the city until I get tired or I get to the city. **Get here: 9.45 a.m for a 10 a.m start.** I can't wait for late comers, and I'm not checking messages after 10, you'll have to catch up. I'll make up the route on the day, unlikely you'll find me if you're late **Location**: Meet at Post office at Keilor Park shopping centre **Google Maps:** [https://maps.app.goo.gl/fJrnDBTmxxS3iayz9](https://maps.app.goo.gl/fJrnDBTmxxS3iayz9) Basically exploring the north west of Melbourne Most likely going through - Green gully reserve - Brimbank Park - Grimes flat Generally following - Maribyrnong Creek/river - Towards Essendon/Footscray/Flemington - Brunswick/Carlton - Late afternoon Melbourne skyline I may end up in Brunswick and my favourite hippy cafe, the Green refectory. I don't want to hand hold people on this one, so it will be informal, you can exit at any point, but you have to figure out how to get back home. You need to be self sufficient in clothing, food, water. I don't know where toilet stops will be. I'm happy to take rest stops and snack breaks every hour or two, there will be cafes along the way.. Most people on my walks don't last more than 6km. So please only come along only if you think you have sufficient fitness for a very long walk I will be going at my usual place of around 4 to 5km/hr, it's not relaxed but it's not fast. On such a long walk I don't want to dawdle waiting around for people. Times are estimates only, it doesn't include snack lunch, rest and cafe breaks. If you have time constraints and other activities planned it's best not to come. along with my usual policy guff, if you do a no show you'll be removed and most probably banned from the group. Or do the right thing and remove yourself from the event before it starts😂
