Staying Close to Home..Doris Mcarthy Trail

Location: 201 Guildwood Pkwy (The pin for the location is acting up so go by the address please!) We have been far and wide this summer from Italy to Tofino BC including the west coast trail. Now it's time to stay close to home! **Get to know the waterfront with Angie and get one of the last swims of the summer in!** Doris McCarthy Trail has beautiful views of the water and lots of wildlife. This is mostly flat except the beginning which includes a bit of a steep hill. It takes approximately 10 minutes to walk down to the lake and after that the route goes east and west along the water. Bring a bathing suit if you want to jump in - this is a perfect Sunday hike. Distance is about 13km.

Caves, Cliffs, and Crevices: The Duncan Caves Loop

**Please note the only way to register for this adventure is on [our website.](https://www.wildernessunion.com/adventures/duncan-caves)** **Join us as we head to the Duncan escarpment to explore some incredible ‘crevice’ or ‘fracture’ caves, created over thousands of years through a mixture of glacial movement, extreme temperatures and the raw force of gravity.** We start the hike through open farmland and meadow before the ground tilts up and we climb onto the escarpment itself. From there, most of the day is spent walking along the escarpment and through the forest that grows right up to the cliff edge and spill over its exposed rock. We will then descend into the caves, with some being over 30 metres deep. You will be scrambling in some places, working your way down and through one of the more unique pieces of trail anywhere in Ontario. From the caves, the trail climbs back along the escarpment edge through mature forest, with a stretch of cliff top that opens up into views out over the valley below. **Please note the only way to register for this adventure is on [our website.](https://www.wildernessunion.com/adventures/killarney-camping-1)** **Dive into the Killarney backcountry with this beautiful and beginner friendly canoe camping adventure.** We're heading to Bell Lake, on the quieter east side of the park, for a weekend that mixes an easy paddle-in camping trip and an incredible hike to Silver Peak, the highest point in Killarney. Friday, we'll paddle the short 2.5km crossing to our backcountry site, set up camp, and spend the afternoon settling in. The rest of the afternoon is yours to spend how you like. If you want to learn to pitch a tent, get a fire going properly, or handle a canoe, we'll show you. If you'd rather find a rock in the sun and do nothing, that works too. Saturday, you can chill around camp or paddle over and hike Silver Peak, the highest point in the park. It's a roughly 11km round trip, starting on an easy rolling trail before a steep, hands on scramble up exposed quartzite for the final push. At the top, you're rewarded with a 360 degree view over Killarney's white ridges and out to Georgian Bay. Trust us, you won’t get many views in Ontario that are better than this! Both nights, we'll eat around the fire and fall asleep under some of the clearest skies in Ontario. Killarney's stargazing is genuinely other-worldly. On a clear night you'll see the Milky Way and more stars than you knew existed. Sunday, we pack up and paddle back out. By Sunday, you'll have spent two days swimming, paddling, and sleeping under the stars, surrounded by Killarney's unmistakable landscapes. Epic #5 - The Lavielle Loop

The Lavieille Loop is a high-endurance expedition named after one of the most beautiful lakes in a park full of incredible scenery. This is a route of extremes: from the crystal-clear expanse of **Lake Lavieille** to the winding, moose-heavy waters of the **Crow River**, culminating in the legendary 5.5km **Dickson-Bonfield portage**, this is a true test of grit. This expedition is inspired by the Meanest Link, a legendary challenge created by our friends and partners at Algonquin Outfitters. Designed by Alex Hurley and Gord Baker as a tribute to AO’s founder, Bill Swift Sr., the Link was built to push the limits of exploration and self-reliance. While our loop covers a specific, scenic section of this historic network, we’ve designed this Epic to channel that same spirit of adventure and respect for the park’s heritage. We’ve carved out a nearly 100km route, taking us from the massive waters of Lake Opeongo, along the winding Crow River, and into the remote reaches of Lake Lavieille before heading back down to Opeongo. By doing this in early September, we catch the park at its absolute best: the bugs are gone, the weather is beautiful, and the wildlife is active along the riverbanks. Awaiting us in the second half of our journey is the notorious Dickson-Bonfield portage. At over 5km,this is the longest single portage in Algonquin Park. It’s relatively flat but a huge challenge and, once you set your canoe down at Bonfield Lake, you’ll have earned your place among the most dedicated paddlers in the province. This trip requires a high level of fitness and a genuine willingness to embrace the challenge of a 5km trek with a canoe on your shoulders. Forks of the Credit Summertime Trek

**Please note the only way to register for this adventure is on [our website.](https://www.wildernessunion.com/adventures/fforks-of-the-credit)** **Ten kilometers, one river, and about 300 metres of elevation gain packed into a single Caledon loop.** We start near Kettle Lake, a small glacial pond that gives this section of the park its name, and follow the Meadow Trail as it dips down toward the water before climbing back out through mixed forest. From there we pick up the Bruce Trail along an open ridge, where the ground flattens out and the Credit River valley opens up below. The second half of the loop is where the park earns its name. We drop down toward the ruins of a former hydro power station, its concrete foundations still standing next to the river, before a short detour to the viewing platform for Cataract Falls. It is not a thundering waterfall, but the setting, tucked into the escarpment with the old ruins for company, is worth the stop. ALGONQUIN-BONNECHERE LAKE SAT SEP 5 - MON SEP 7 LABOUR DAY, CANOE TRIP 6/26

On one of the hottest long weekends of the summer we have a place reserved on one of the best lakes in Algonquin Park. Bonnechere Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in Algonquin Park. Deep, clear, quiet, water, provides excellent swimming for people, Lake Trout and Speckled Trout. There are only 6 well spaced private, campsites, with steel grates, fire pits and thunder boxes. We will meet at Algonquin Park, Canoe Lake, Permit Office, at 11:00 AM Sat., to pay for permits, and then drive across the road to Smoke Lake, Access Point 6, to park our cars. Permit Fees: $12.43 per person per night, X 2 nights, = $24.86 + $14.13 per car X 2 nights = $28.26. Paddle distance: 17 km. 3 portages, total 1 km. The portage called, "The Devil's Staircase", is a broad, busy trail, 590 m. long, that climbs 55 m. vertical in the first 400 m. and then drops sharply 10 m. to Big Porcupine Lake, which is 44 m. elevation higher than Ragged Lake.
