Games night – Second Serve

Once a month, we slow things down. No courts. No rushing. Just good food, easy conversation, and a social that actually feels… social. This is the **Second Serve games night** — a more relaxed, sit-down version of the group. 📍 **Venue (Croydon / easy access)** We rotate between: * Cosy restaurants with bookable tables * Private/semi-private dining spaces * Quiet venues where we can actually hear each other (Final location shared after approval) 🕒 **Format (Monthly Saturday)** * **6:30 – 7:15pm** → Arrivals + dinner orders * **7:15 – 8:15pm** → Dinner & natural conversation * **8:15 – 9:45pm** → Games + guided social * Wrap up on time — no dragging the night out 🎲 **The Twist (What makes this different)** This isn’t just “dinner and hope for the best.” We structure it lightly so it never gets awkward: * Small tables (4–6 people max) * Subtle **table rotations** (optional, not forced) * Simple games that spark conversation, not competition 💬 **Conversation Style** No cringe icebreakers. Welcome to *My Kind of Meeples*! Feel free to RSVP and join us for an evening of board gaming fun. Arrive from **6:30pm** for a relaxed chat and a chance to get to know everyone. If you’re new, please introduce yourself to one of the hosts — they’ll be happy to welcome you and help you settle in. At **7:00pm**, we’ll begin with our first game, selecting games for the night. Anyone who has brought games with them is invited to offer them up with a brief overview and an indication of the difficulty level. You’re free to join any game that interests you, and we’ll make sure everyone has something to play. If a game is new to you, it will always be taught beforehand, with a quick refresher for returning players if needed. We play a wide range of games, typically lasting between **1 and 3 hours**. Multiple games run at the same time, and there’s usually at least one beginner-friendly option as well as a more advanced game available each evening. The night usually runs until closing time (around **11:00pm**), and depending on the games you choose, you may even fit in more than one game. If you’re able, we kindly ask that you support the venue by purchasing from the bar, as the pub generously hosts us. We look forward to welcoming you to the group!

**Exciting news —the first "Walk ’n’ Talks" of the year is here!** These casual meetups are all about game devs walking and talking about making games. This time we will gather at 11:00 AM outside Clapham junction station on the "Grant Road" side (around fame.closes.issues on what3words,) then walk along the Thames path eastwards until London bridge. So around 7.5 miles. There’s a good chance we’ll bump into a pub/cafe or two for a well-earned refreshment along the way! Rough agenda (I might adjust it): * Start shortly after 11. * After 1-1.5 hrs, arrive at Battersea power station for a short & light snack/lunch break (\~45 mins). * Continue on along the Thames path, stopping for breaks as needed. * Arrive in London bridge maybe around 3-4 pm, where the walk will end, then find a pub somewhere near London bridge station to hang out and leave whenever you're ready. We meet every Tuesday from 6pm at the Old Frizzle Pub in Wimbledon. Please support us by coming along, with or without your own games. There will be a selection of games already available. New members are always welcomed. We usually start with a couple of light games to get everyone involved and then split into smaller groups to play games of your choice.
