Design is changing, but it's definitely not dead

Design is changing, but it's definitely not dead

Wed, Jul 15, 4:30 PM
From UX Hub Barcelona
4.7

**UX Hub** is thrilled to welcome you to our next event, hosted at Preply's offices in Barcelona! **Design is changing, but it's definitely not dead** Every AI tool launches ships with a eulogy for design. This talk argues that the hot takes have it backwards: AI has transformed the cost of executing design work, gathering data, analysing it, ideating, prototyping, and even shipping code, but it hasn't touched the part that was always the point. The thinking. Drawing on how the design team at Preply works with AI day to day, Tim explores the traps waiting inside this new speed: mistaking fluency for intelligence, mistaking a fast answer for the right one, and the recursive slop loop where AI-generated work trains the next generation of AI, raising the floor while quietly lowering the ceiling. The conclusion is optimistic. Design isn't disappearing, its stages are being redistributed between human and machine. Thinking is the glue between those stages, and choosing what to hand over, and what to hold, is the new craft. **Speaker** [Tim Green](https://www.linkedin.com/in/destroywerk/) is a Principal Product Designer at Preply. Originally from Manchester, UK, he began his career in traditional graphic design before transitioning to product design. After living in Berlin and Buenos Aires, he settled in London, where he has been based for the past 15 years. Tim spent nearly a decade at Google helping to launch Android Enterprise, Pixel Watch, and Pixel Tablet. He then moved to the HR SaaS platform Personio to solve complex organizational structure challenges. He is currently the Area Lead for the Growth tribe at Preply, supporting seven teams in creating the best possible onboarding experience for new learners. **Hosts** This event is hosted by [Preply](https://preply.com/), one of the world's leading online language learning platforms, connecting learners with tutors for live, personalized lessons in over 50 languages. Its platform combines smart matching technology with a global community of tutors, helping millions of learners build real-world language skills through one-on-one, tailored instruction. **Location:** Preply\*\*,\*\* 97 Carrer de Badajoz, Sant Martí, 08018 Barcelona, Spain **To join us, just:** ✅ RSVP here on Meetup ✅ Answer [this form](https://48db4b2d.sibforms.com/serve/MUIFALfB0bn_p1G9zS7yYICl8fr4aT-cjBYl7Ow1DKvi6gv1FzDSE3Dt9fmIH5k78PONlJNEn2S6UnpOuo_VNIeUd69dkI5RJ0kaw7TjtxPjtwYy8KKc80BkMTozTqyRXiKCcXK9G8y-NccOB4S1Ci0SPkuWLJ5BCVWC80yGZ9bhinpCpoBKNV5cyovr3wH4BWM1_lNTf8IsVTvO) **What’s Happening?** * Keynote Talk: Tim Green * Hope in the Age of AI: Design is changing, but it's definitely not dead * Hosts: Preply * Interactive Q&A: Get your questions answered * Community Networking: Connect with fellow designers, AI specialists, and UX thinkers **Details:** **🗓️ Date**: Wednesday, July 15, 2026 **⏰ Time:** 18:30–21:00 📍 **Location:** Preply, 97 Carrer de Badajoz, Sant Martí, 08018 Barcelona, Spain **Why You’ll Love It:** A sharp take on why thinking, not execution, was always the real craft. **Agenda:** **18:30 – Doors Open** **18:45 – Introduction** **19:00–20:15 – Talk & Q&A** **20:15–21:00 – Socialization & Fun!** **Educational partners:** [Interaction Design Foundation](https://ixdf.org/) [Uxcel](https://uxcel.com/?utm_medium=paid%20search&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=brand&utm_term=uxcel&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=23478421564&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23478421564&gbraid=0AAAAAoYVYnfrZ5Yt8YP5nzmg5PiQ4LvIK&gclid=CjwKCAjw6rfSBhAqEiwA_yocppX7EENM8-y2gWRMnWIprvZnHOrWMLhhAxQKPof1jyFAryWd1HY_ERoCJIQQAvD_BwE) [Uxia](https://www.uxia.app/) **P.S.** Please make sure to show up on time. **If we reach full capacity, we'll not be able to let you in**, even if you have a ticket!

🗣️ English below, español y català. We will walk a section of the Camí de Sant Jaume (Way of St. James) to the Sanctuary of Lord and explore everything from high mountains to the waterfalls that form the river's source, following medium-easy routes (15 km, 500m elevation gain). 💦 As a reward, one day we will swim at the beach of the stunning reservoir, and another at the "12 chorros" (12 streams) waterfall. At the former, we will hold a massage exchange workshop. 📖 I will share the local stories, fauna, flora, and heritage. 📸 I’ll teach you to improve your photos and videos technically and conceptually, whether using a mobile or external camera. 👩‍🎨 Learn from scratch or improve your drawing and watercolor painting. I’ll guide you in developing your own style. 🤯 Break the "I can't draw or paint well" mindset. 🌳 Connect with nature through active observation, connect with yourself, and disconnect from your routine and the city. 🤫 We will have specific moments of meditative silence. *Kilometers and technique are secondary.* 🥾 I will guide you to improve your hiking skills and gear to better care for your body and tackle increasingly powerful routes. 💆‍♂️ Learn to give or receive a massage with little effort and a postural re-education focus—using your weight instead of strength. Clothed, no oil, anywhere. Take care of your body and those of your loved ones. 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️ Meet future friends who share your passions. ### LOCATION: THE LORD VALLEY ⛰️ Amidst conglomerate walls, infinite viewpoints, lush forests, and its spectacular reservoir, this valley is one of those places that surprises by feeling much wilder and more remote than it actually is, blending the epic feel of the Pre-Pyrenees with landscapes straight out of a fantasy movie. 💧 Crowned by the Port del Compte massif and featuring the imposing La Llosa del Cavall reservoir at its heart, this territory mixes dreamlike landscapes, historical paths, and hidden waterfalls with panoramic views stretching from Montserrat to the Pyrenees. 💦 The area also hosts the "Fonts del Cardener": the source of the Cardener River where water gushes directly from the rocks, forming beautiful cascades. Just outside the valley lies the "12 chorros" waterfall. ### THE HOTEL 🔹 We will stay in a beautiful, rustic hotel with an 8.0 rating on Booking and 4.3 on Maps in Sant Llorenç de Morunys. 🔹 Rooms for 2 or 3 people with private bathroom, blankets, sheets, soap, shampoo, and hairdryer. ### THE VILLAGE: SANT LLORENÇ DE MORUNYS An authentic walled medieval town known as the "Vila Closa." Crossing its ancient stone gateways and wandering its pentagonal layout is like traveling back in time. Being completely surrounded by mountains in the middle of the valley gives it a special atmosphere of isolation. ### PLAN 👥 We will be a small group of 10 to 20 people to respect the environment and ensure personalized attention. 🚗 We will travel by car from Barcelona and surroundings. During activities, we will leave unnecessary luggage in the car. 📜 We will dive into the history and art beforehand via WhatsApp group dynamics, and later work on creative follow-ups with the works created. ❄️ **Day 1** 🔹 **Morning** * Depart from Fabra & Puig and Sants at 7:30 AM with lunch ready for the day. * Breakfast and presentation dynamics. * Mindful and photographic hiking via the Camí de Sant Jaume to the Sanctuary of Lord. * Drawing and painting workshop\* with stunning reservoir views. * 🔹 **Afternoon** * Picnic lunch (self-provided). * Swim at the reservoir beach. * Massage or self-massage workshop\* on the beach. * Mindful and photographic hiking at the river source: Fonts del Cardener. * 🔹 **Night** * Shower and rest at the hotel. * Dinner at a nearby restaurant with spectacular views. * Artistic motivation session. ❄️ **Day 2** 🔹 **Morning** * Breakfast at the hotel or nearby cafe; purchase picnic for lunch. * Mindful and photographic hiking through the heights of Port del Compte. * Drawing and painting workshop\*. * Picnic lunch. * 🔹 **Afternoon** * Mindful and photographic hiking. * Swim at the "12 chorros" waterfall. * Closing dynamics. * 6:00 PM: Start the return to Barcelona. *Painting and massage workshops are optional.
