First book club meeting!
Thu, Jul 23, 11:00 PMHello everyone! For the first TBR meeting, I want everyone to bring the book they think we should read for the month and create a short pitch explaining why. I want it to feel like a Shark Tank episode where everyone pitches their book! At the end of the meeting, we will vote for which book we would like to read for the month. I want this first meeting to be social and friendly. Bring your books and your pitches!

Silent Bookclub Meeting #81 (Bookstore Crawl and Riverdale Park)
Sun, Jul 19, 2:30 PMThe next event will be a two parter, bringing back a fan favourite! On Sunday July 19, we will be doing our second Bookstore Crawl (think pub crawl but for books)! We'll meet in the East End (location TBD) and then visit a few bookstores before finally ending at Riverdale Park for our regular Silent Book Club event. Please RSVP if you're planning on coming so we can plan appropriately! To help cover the costs of meetup fees, we will be taking optional donations for this event. If you're inclined to, feel free to send any amount you're comfortable with to harresh.s@hotmail.com, or bring cash to the event. Please note that this is entirely optional and not required to join the event! All proceeds will go towards fees for this event and future events, as well as meetup fees.

ABCD Reads "Go Gentle" by Maria Semple
Tue, Jul 21, 11:00 PMABCD Reads "[Go Gentle](https://tpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S234C4718443)" by Maria Semple. ([RESULTS](https://opavote.com/results/6419002495860736) of the poll for this event.) **:: ABOUT THE BOOK ::** "Adora Hazzard has it all figured out. A Stoic philosopher and divorcĂ©e, she lives a contented life on New York Cityâs Upper West Side. Having discovered that the secret to happiness is to desire only what you have, sheâs applied this insight to blissful effect: relishing her teenage daughter, the freedom of being solo, and her job as a moral tutor for the twin boys of an old-money family. Sheâs even assembled a âcovenââlike-minded women who live on the same floor in the legendary Ansoniaâand is making active efforts to grow its membership. Adoraâs carefully curated life is humming along brilliantly until a chance meeting with a handsome stranger." (from [Goodreads](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/239152335-go-gentle)) "ATV comedy writer turned popularizer of Stoic philosophy falls in love, is swept into an international art incident, and deals with buried trauma. For starters. A wild mess of a plot, but a fun wild mess, punctuated by Sempleâs signature witty observations and punchlines." (from [Kirkus Reviews](https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/maria-semple/go-gentle/)) **:: ABOUT THE EVENT ::** You are welcome to arrive 30 minutes before the event and stay 30 minutes or longer afterward to connect with other attendees outside the book talk. Please ensure you have read the book before attending (though finishing any book is not a barrier to participating, as long as you don't mind spoilers). First-time attendees can join for free. If the event is full, we maintain an unofficial waitlist. Please send [Michael](https://www.meetup.com/members/55295192/) a direct message for more information, in either case. We request a $3 contribution from regular attendees to help cover our monthly meetup costs. **:: ABOUT OUR NEXT BOOK ::** At the end of each event, we will ask for nominees for our next book. If you have a good one in mind, please ensure it is between 200-400 pages long, available from the Toronto Public Library, and counts as contemporary literary fiction (though these are not hard and fast rules). When enough nominees are collected, Michael will send the members a direct message with a link where you can vote.
