It's Sunrise Season again :-) Watch the sunrise in the company of other people who are up for tiny adventures. Warm up and carry on conversations in a nearby cafe afterwards. (Conversations fuelled by early morning light and coffee tend to be good ones.) **The plan:** * meet at 7AM at the top of **PRIMROSE HILL** * sunrise is at 7:05AM * take in the view for a little while (depending on how cold it is) * walk to a local café on Regents Park Road * warm up with coffee We meet frequently to create and sustain community. New people and visitors are always welcome :-) We will be easy to find because we will be at the top of the hill looking out for early birds. Day trip by coach - pretty towns in north Dorset! (NOW FULL)

Come along on Saturday 10th October for a coach trip to visit some pretty towns in north Dorset! **About the day** The county of Dorset sits in South West England. It's known for its chalk uplands, its stunning countryside and its postcard perfect towns & villages built in local stone. We will be visiting three small and pretty towns in north Dorset: **Blandford Forum** Blandford Forum is a market town on the River Stour. It is notable for its Georgian architecture, the result of rebuilding after a major fire in 1731 and today its considered the most complete Georgian town in England. Its also home to the Dorset Museum & Art Gallery, detailing the counties history and you also get access to the remains of a Roman town house next door. **Sturminster Newton** Sturminster Newton is a pretty town which also sits on the River Stour and is set in a large dairy agricultural region. It has links with the novelist Thomas Hardy, when he lived in the town for 2 years and the town has a mixture of medieval, 18th and 19th century buildings. It also has a museum about the history of the town. **Shaftesbury** Shaftesbury is an ancient hilltop market town famous for the steep cobbled street Gold Hill, which was featured in the classic 1970s Hovis bread TV advert. Petersfield, secluded valleys & dramatic 360 views from Harting Down

**WHAT TO EXPECT - Dramatic hill-top views, secluded valleys and woodland** Distance: **25km (approx 15 miles)** Ascent: c. **570m** Estimated Duration (approx): **6 hours walking** (4km/hr) Difficulty: Moderate to energetic Group size: 20 hikers **HIGHLIGHT** * An undulating hike through the little known western reaches of the South Downs. * Lovely quaint pub for a stop at lunchtime * Stunning 360-degree panoramic views on top of National Trust's Harting Down * Significant views out to the Solent and the Isle of Wight * Deer parks in the later part of the walk * Some beautiful quintessentially English countryside at its best **DESCRIPTION** We'll be walking in part on the South Downs Way, as well as lesser known paths steeped in history. Our day will start in Petersfield - an ancient market town founded in the early 12th century which became a horse coaching centre on the main London to Portsmouth route. We'll then head to Buriton, a lovely historic village just south of Peterfield. From there we will start heading up onto the South Downs Way and then down to South Harting, which sits at the foot of the beautiful South Downs. It is home to one of the major landmarks in the Rother Valley - St Mary and Gabriel Church. This will be our lunch stop at a quaint old pub. We'll be walking off our lunch with a steep climb up onto Harting Down - a stunning 360-degree viewpoint where the higher ground of West Harting Down provides significant views out to the Solent and the Isle of Wight should we have fine weather. We then circle back to Petersfield over fields and along deer park enclosures, with no other hikers in sight. And of course, a well earned drink in a pub in Petersfield! *ps. Day trip to the Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is one of the most beautiful areas of England. It’s made up of lovely towns and villages that look amazing in springtime when the flowers are out. We take the train to Moreton in Marsh and after a quick look around, take a local bus to Stow on the Wold and later Bourton on the Water, known as the Venice of the Cotswolds. This is the perfect time to visit. It is a trip you do not want to miss!!

Ely is famous for being the home of Oliver Cromwell, the man who governed England after the Execution of King Charles I in the 17th century. After a guided walk around the city we go into Oliver Cromwell’s House (entry included). Cambridge is a major university city and after a guided walk, you will be free to explore on your own. So we're tempting fate and doing it again in October. This is a fair-weather event. If it rains, we will cancel the retreat and hang out at the Southbank instead. This time, we have an even bigger line up of activities, so please join us in praying for dry weather! **How does a outdoor day retreat connect to TEiP (THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBLIC)?** TEiP has become a thriving community because our events create opportunities for people to get straight into meaningful, imaginative, creative conversations. The Day Retreats are opportunities to take that imagination and creativity and sense of community to the next level. They are an opportunity for people to share and learn from one another in the same openminded, relaxed spirit as TEiP. It's outside because we love nature and our last outside event attracted a huge number of RSVPs demonstrating major enthusiasm for outdoor gatherings. Of course, October weather is unpredictable. Knockholt Circular

A truly wonderful 9.5 mile walk in the glorious beautiful Kent countryside. There may be some stiles and a few hills so you have been warned ! Using our Oyster Cards we shall take the train at 10.40am that arrives at Knockholt at 11.20am so please arrive by 10.25am. Or you may decide to drive. The walk shall commence by 11.25am. Please bring packed lunch, water, snacks etc, waterproof jacket and walking shoes or trainers. You should have adequate insurance for this type of activity and be able to walk 2.5 miles per hour. Let's go with the flow and do this most wonderful stunning 9 to mile walk in the Surrey countryside featuring the beautiful village and surrounding woodland of Peaslake. Things to bring : packed lunch, water, snacks etc and waterproof jacket and walking shoes/boots/trainers. Also sunhat, suncream and sunglasses. We shall buy group train tickets as from 10.15am. Train : 10.45am that arrives at Gomshall at 11.51am after changing at Guildford. Train ticket: Return to Gomshall ( via Guildford ). You should have adequate and appropriate insurance for this type of activity and be able to walk 2.5 miles per hour. Meetup fee £5 payable in cash or in advance by bank transfer. We shall have a drink at the end of the walk in delightful Compasses Inn that houses a stream in its beer garden. Doc in a Day | Filmmaking Challenge

**NOTE: Kick off location will be announced closer to the event and will be in a Zone 1 location with easy transport links!** Doc in a Day is a **filmmaking challenge** where participants **create short documentary films in 36 hours.** This is about learning through practice in a friendly and fun environment. We aim to screen all of the films submitted, where you can catch up with the other participants and documentary film professionals give feedback on each film, announcing a winner and runner-up. Prize: \- The winning film you've made :\) \- The winning official crest/laurel to add to your film and promotion \- The new friends and industry contacts you would have made *\* We also usually organise a visit to a documentary production company for the winning teams, so they can pitch an idea and gain industry insights. **But at the moment this is not guaranteed,** it would be a bonus - we're currently trying to source a company to visit.* *** WHY 'DOC IN A DAY'? * Create a short doc, build your portfolio * Make meaningful industry contacts * Get feedback and learn from experienced professionals * Improve your skills and practise with new kit * Have a blast collaborating with like-minded people *** HOW THE COMPETITION WORKS Saturday 10:00 – Gather to network and **create teams.** Come alone, with a friend or a ready-made crew! Recent examples include 'Truth', 'Change' and 'Thrill'. 11.01 – **Go, go, go!** Get planning, shooting and editing your films. Sunday 23:00 – Deadline for submissions (via a dedicated WeTransfer link) Around a week or two later 19:00 – ***Screening event***, where you can catchup with the other participants and documentary film professionals give feedback on each film, announcing a winner and runner up. *** ENTRY COST £20 early bird (recommended as limited spaces available) £25 on the day The cost covers both the competition and the screening event. *** Some people come to this competition with years of experience and professional equipment; others make their very first doc this weekend.
