trashscapes: a noticing (and photo) walk
Sat, Sep 19, 3:00 PM**LOOK DOWN MORE!** A casual walk through the East Village for anyone who wants to slow down, look more carefully at what's around them, and capture what they find. On this walk, we'll move slowly through the neighborhood looking for things worth pausing at and then figuring out how to capture them. I suggest a phone or camera, but feel free to bring a sketchbook or whatever you prefer. Any amount (including 0) of art experience is welcome. :) **this event is pay-what-you-want. the suggested price is $10** **want to pay $5? use promo code "five".** **want to pay $1? use promo code "one"** --- This walk is inspired by trashscapes—an ongoing photography project that started with a simple habit: noticing the accidental compositions of debris and found matter on NYC streets. Over a decade of daily walks, the habit became an archive of what gets left behind. I'm drawn to the way found matter interplays with the city's infrastructure—using it as framing, finding balance in color and form, and making the incidental feel composed.

Dance Walk in Prospect Park
Sun, Sep 20, 2:00 PMFall 2026 kick-off Dance Walk! Bring iPod & earbuds, dress light & come hands-free. Everybody listens to their own music as we dance walk around the park loop: https://vimeo.com/283214936. @dancewalkbk What is "Dance Walking"? It is an improvised form of walking, with music, doing whatever movement comes naturally. It's walking and moving your arms. Or skipping, skitching, low-stepping, sideways running. It's responding to the rhythm, attitude, or story of the music you're hearing. In short, it's having a dance party in your living room, while walking through the park. Some people listen to music to go running. When I listen to music, I want to dance. This meet-up is for like-inspired music-dance folks. "Dance" encompasses a wide range of physical movement on the Dance Walk--no professional creds necessary. A word to the wise: DW is \*not\* a performance, or an exhibition, but a loose container for exercise, music immersion and physical expression. Why do we each listen to our own music? Because each of us feel inspired by different tunes, and on Dance Walk, you connect from the inside-out. This is not a class with a teacher, nor is it a group jam, but something more like parallel play--a group of individuals doing their own thing, together. You need to possess the ability to move on your own, and to follow your own improvisational impulses--listening to your music, your body, nature in the park, and whatever else inspires you. We meet @10:00am, share names, cue up our tunes and usually take off within 5 minutes. A word to the shy, self-conscious, and judgy: You will have the MOST fun of all. Once you're warm and hit that flow, the negative mental static falls away. Movement comes easily, and music takes over. Take it from a deeply self-conscious person, Dance Walk is a profoundly joyful liberation. \*To find us: Enter Prospect Park at the main Grand Army Plaza entrance (NOT the side path with bike parking and water fountain). Walk past the vegetable vendors (Saturdays only) on the drive about 100 paces. We gather on the grassy triangle, just shy of the park loop, right at the start time. If you're early, do not fret--people (incl me!) show up by 10am. Message me or call my cell if you can't find the location. **Dance Walk in the Press:** https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/feb/18/new-york-performers-theatres-dance-outdoors https://brooklyneagle.com/articles/2019/11/18/photos-dance-walk-prospect-park/ http://themomtropolis.com/dance-walk-you-know-you-want-to/ https://www.youembody.com/fitness/cardio/dance-fitness-creative-cardio

Wed, Sep 16, 11:00 PMHey everyone! Let's meet up for drinks at the Frying Pan in Manhattan. We will meet there on Wednesday night September 16 to chat about past and future hikes and outdoorsy trips over drinks. I will post my number in the comments the day of the chat and in case it rains and the bar is closed we will just move the event to one of the indoor bars nearby. I will update everyone in the comments section. Hopefully we have good weather! The frying is rather large so watch the comments section for the exact location where we are gathering.
