Ride leader Janet Joy Wilson will be back in NYC in October! Let’s have a Brompton "Joy Ride" from Lower Manhattan to Valentino Pier in Red Hook to enjoy the night sky and reconnect with much-missed Janet! This is a 11-mile social ride at a slow pace, **for Brompton bicycles only**. **DETAILS** We’ll meet at the base of the Christopher Street Pier on the Hudson Greenway. We’ll depart at approximately 6:20PM after 20 minutes of socializing. At the meeting point there are restrooms for us to use. The route is on a paved, comfortable bike path, with little traffic. We'll cross the Brooklyn Bridge to Brooklyn and cruise along the waterfront towards our goal, enjoying spectacular views of the tip of Manhattan. At Valentino Pier, we will have a break to have some of Steve's Key Lime Pies - a New York classic and very fun. We'll hang out to socialize a bit before we go on the second, shorter part of the ride. This will lead us to into DUMBO, Brooklyn. We will have a small After Party with Janet on our rooftop terrace with the wonderful views off the Manhattan skyline to round off the glorious evening. **RIDE LEVEL:** Chill / Relaxed Pace: 16 kmh / 10 mph Distance: 11-12 miles Everyone is welcome, no one will be left behind. **WHAT TO BRING** * Since we will be riding back in the dark, lights are required * Please ensure your tires are inflated and your bike is in good working order * Spare inner tube in case of flats - everyone should bring this **PLEASE MAINTAIN YOUR RSVP!** If you can’t attend, please update your RSVP so someone from the waiting list can have your spot. Riders with a history of “no shows” may be removed from the ride in favor of others on the waiting list. **Happy Riding!** \* \* \* \* \* \* \* \* \* \* \* \* \* \* \* \* Our Community Rules: 1. Bridge Practice (Intermediate)

Bridge Practice (Intermediate)

Sun, Oct 18, 2:00 PM
From NYC Rollerbladers
4.9

Bridges can be intimidating for new skaters. The object of this event is for newer skaters to experience skating on bridges. **Note:** **You absolutely positively must know how to brake comfortably in order to attend this event, or you could get badly injured on the steep downhill.** We will start at New York City Hall in Manhattan, which is right before the Brooklyn Bridge, cross the Brooklyn Bridge into Brooklyn, then skate over to the Manhattan Bridge and cross the Manhattan Bridge back into Manhattan. From there, we'll go up to the Williamsburg Bridge and take that back into Brooklyn, then go across Pulaski Bridge and take the 59th Street Bridge back into Manhattan. The skate officially ends there, but others may continue to skate together The challenges that bridges present are as follows: 1\. steep downhill once you get past the middle\. 2\. steep uphill until you get to the middle\. 3\. narrow lanes with bikers trying to pass you\. 4\. possible construction 5\. curves With all that, you might ask: why would anyone want to attend such an event? Well, practicing bridges is good practice for... more bridges.

Three-Year Group Anniversary: Randall's Island (Beginners)

Sun, Oct 11, 3:00 PM
From NYC Rollerbladers
4.9

NYC Rollerbladers held our first event on Oct. 1, 2023 at Randall's Island. Those in attendance were Matt, Trudi, Phylicia, Gilbert, Daniela, Bimbola, Jyllian, Kim, Nayarett, and Carlos. Our group now has over 1000 members on Meetup and over 700 on Whatsapp. This event will mark our three-year anniversary. Meet on Randall's Island at bus stop "Main Roadway/Icahn Stadium." How to get there: Take the 6 train to 125th St stop. Walk to M35 bus stop at Lexington Avenue and 125th St. (right by the subway). Take M35 bus to "Main Roadway/Icahn Stadium" stop (5 stops). **Note: This is a beginner event but not an absolute beginner event. You should at least be able to stand on skates, move from one place to another, and brake (not T-stop necessarily, but at least plow stop). We will go slow and help at steeper inclines/in general.** We will do two to three loops around the bottom half of the island (see map below). One loop is 2.2 miles. We will also skate from the meeting point to the loop entrance (0.3 miles). Total skate mileage is about 5.
