A South Beach Stroll

A South Beach Stroll

Fri, Dec 4, 11:00 PM
From Roaming Zen
4.9

It's becoming something of a Roaming Zen tradition to be by the waterfront around the shortest days of the year - it's my way of making the most of the daylight. We will start December at South Beach. I have mainly wanted to see the new tiled stairs on Beale St, so we will visit those on our way up and over Rincon Hill (which barely scrapes the top 50 on the list of San Francisco hills), as well as passing through South Park, the oldest residential square in the city, and spending time along Brannan Wharf (pictured at sunrise). *Bringing water, snacks, and layers for all the microclimates is the way to go. Please check the forecast and look out for updates if it is going to be rainy. We may go ahead, depending on the conditions.* *These roams are offered by donation. They are one way I am able to pay my rent in San Francisco.* *Punctuality is always appreciated, for the sake of everybody's time. Please send a message on the app before the start if you are running late, and we will either wait (up to ten minutes) or I will direct you on how to catch up. Once we get underway I have to focus on those who are there, and most likely won't respond.* *Generally half the people who sign up don't actually show up on the day. I do track flakiness and remove people who have a poor attendance record. It is discourteous to those on the waitlist who would like to attend.* *Sending me a message explaining that you can't make it is always appreciated.*

Lake to Ocean: A Nature Walk

Lake to Ocean: A Nature Walk

Tue, Nov 10, 1:00 AM
From Lake Merced (SF)
4.9

The starting point for the walk is **1 Harding Road, San Francisco**. Look for the **green picnic tables on the left**. We meet by the **statue of King Carlos III**. There is plenty of parking, and the 58 bus passes by every 30 minutes. There are also bathrooms. We meet at **5:00 p.m.** and take off shortly after. The most common route we take is along Lake Merced and up to the Observation Deck at Fort Funston, where we tend to stop for a bit to chat, watch for dolphins and whales, gaze in awe at the at the hang gliders and paragliders flying overhead, and enjoy the golden hour (or admire the fog). This walk, which **totals 3 miles** offers incredible views of Lake Merced, the ocean and coastline, San Bruno Mountain, Twin Peaks, Mount Davidson, and even the Golden Gate Bridge. An alternate walk that we do some weeks (from the same starting point), depending on interest, is Lake Merced the opposite direction, past the zoo and through Sunset Dunes to public seating & hammocks at Sunset Dunes & Taraval. The total for this route is also 3 miles. -Both routes are 100% paved. -The total is 3 miles. -The weather can be anything from warm and sunny to cold and windy, so it's best to wear layers. -Some neighbors and regulars don't check Meetup or register, so there may be more participants than officially registered. -If I personally can't attend on a given day (which is rare but happens), I cancel the official event on Meetup. However, some folks still tend to gather (same time, same place). -Some folks come every week, some every few months, and some only once. Join us any time! -Muchos de nosotros también hablamos español.
