Birding Basics in the Ramble

It’s fall migration season in the Park! A key stop on the Atlantic Flyway, Central Park welcomes more than 210 bird species each year. On this hands-on tour, you will learn the basics of bird identification while you explore the Ramble, a vibrant woodland habitat that supports a variety of NYC wildlife. I will share helpful tips for spotting and identifying birds. Let's make a visit to Dia: Beacon, a contemporary art museum located in Westchester, NY. After viewing the exhibits on display, we can explore the town of Beacon and have lunch. Bird's the Word! Street Art, City Parks & Cool Jazz 🎷 (~8 miles)

The [Charlie Parker Festival](https://cityparksfoundation.org/charlieparker/) in NYC will be celebrating its 34th year in NYC 8/28-8/30 featuring the brightest stars of jazz to celebrate the legendary musician, affectionately known as 'Bird'. Let's warm up for Saturday's event at Marcus Garvey Park by taking in highlights of the [Audubon Society's Mural Project ](https://www.audubon.org/amp)in uptown Manhattan, wandering through some lovely areas of [Sugar Hill](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_Hill,_Manhattan) as well as visiting [Trinity Cemetery & Mausoleum](https://trinitywallstreet.org/sites/default/files/inline-files/200520_Cemetery%20Walking%20tour_v7_PDF%20only.pdf) where John James Audubon is buried, among other notables. We'll then walk over to [Riverbank State Park](https://parks.ny.gov/parks/93) for a lunch break and some Hudson River breezes before strolling through West Harlem and briefly visiting the [National Jazz Museum](https://jmih.org/). The walk ends at [Marcus Garvey Park](https://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/marcus-garvey-park) where the Festival runs from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. For those who have never been to the park, the event takes place in a beautiful and spacious amphitheater. There are food trucks in the park to pick up a late lunch and lovely restaurants in the area to visit before or after the festival.
