🏺Raiders of the Lost Egyptian Treasures @ The British Museum
Sun, Jul 12, 2:00 PMFancy a fun social **archaeological** adventure into the **Egyptian** temple? An expedition venturing into history, myth, and discovery at the Museum’s Egyptian galleries. We'll step into a world of monumental statues, hieroglyphs, and sarcophagi so **extraordinary** that even the most famous archaeologist of them all **-** Indiana Jones himself - might hesitate to enter! But no need for Indi - we'll become direct **raiders of knowledge**, uncovering the secrets of Egypt’s most extraordinary artifacts — no Lucas props, just authentic treasures that have captivated explorers, scholars, and adventurers for centuries. Yep - for thousands of years, Ancient Egypt bestowed extraordinary knowledge and innovation on the world - easily giving the big greek philosophers a run for their money! From **mathematics** to building those monumental structures and advanced **astronomy** to create calendars, they practiced **medicine** and mummification with remarkable skill. Their wisdom, traditions and emphasis on cosmic order influenced civilizations far beyond the Nile, leaving a legacy that still shapes how we understand science, culture, and history today We'll step into the Egyptian Sculpture Gallery and encounter monumental statues of pharaohs, sarcophagi, and hieroglyph‑covered stelae. Texts will help guide us through their hidden stories — from the Rosetta Stone to colossal busts of Ramesses II — revealing the real history behind treasures that could easily rival Dr Jones’s greatest finds. 🗝️ Lost Treasures Trail Following a themed trail through the galleries, we'll piece together clues among mummies, tomb goods, and temple carvings. Inspired by Indy’s relic hunts, this puzzle challenge is grounded in authentic archaeology, encouraging you to see the magnificent collections with your own eyes 🎩 Explorer’s Flair And to infuse some lighthearted fun into the journey - *Indiana Jones* style fedora hats and satchels are welcome! Feel free to strike a pose beside towering statues or ancient sarcophagi for **photo opportunities** blending cinematic fun with the awe of Egyptian relics. Impersonations of Indy welcome too - if yours is better than mine I buy you a drink! ☕🥂🍻 After we survive the ancient curses and colossal statues with our discoveries intact, we’ll continue the expedition at a nearby pub — a chance to debrief like real archaeologists, swap theories, compare clues, and enjoy a well‑earned drink getting to know your fellow explorers Lucas Stone Unmummified

♫ Walking Music Tour: From Soho To Beatles House With Tunes & Drinks
Sat, Jul 18, 3:30 PMIf you love music and fun infused popular culture walks then this will be right up your street! Led by a life long passionate music fan, radio & club DJ, ex Journalist and Musicologist (me!)- we will walk hidden historic musical streets littered with fame and showbiz to uncover **A Day in the Life** of the Beatles in London... Yep - we're talkin about those four scousers who wrote and recorded some of the greatest songs ever conjured. During this epic **Revolution**ary 7 mile British musical adventure through the heart of London - we''ll discover "memories longer than the roads that stretch out ahead" as we visit key monumental landmarks that encapsulated their time in London including that world famous iconic zebra crossing! Of course I share interesting stories as we relive and hear some of those 227 **Magical Mystery** songs (get your track requests in!) as we take that trip down musical memory lane. Ironically the tour will commence at the site of their last ever official live performance. We'll then take **The** **Long And Winding Road** down to John's residence, the gallery where he met Yoko, the church where Paul married Linda, the recording studio where **Hey Jude** was recorded, pass Ringo's townhouse where Jimi Hendrix lived and **Eleanor Rigby** was composed and glimpise George Harrison's favourite Indian restaurant in Soho. Later - with a **Little Help From Our Friend** Gerry Rafferty - we'll pass Baker Street **-** home to the original Apple records and expereince landmarks where films like **Hard Day's Night** were shot. Then we''ll swiftly take a relaxing walk passing Lord's cricket ground to those world famous Abbey Road studios where their last few albums were recorded including the ground breaking experimental White LP. On to Paul's house - we'll pass the **Helter Skelter** cafe + lots more! And for fellow dedicated followers of fashion (yeah I know it's a song from a rival l band!) - we'll pop into Stella McCartney's fashion boutique to see if she has any **Sgt Peppers Lonely Heart Clubs** uniforms in stock... To maximise interactive engagement, fun and music love, I'll dish out random trivia questions (e.g which Beatles song was transmitted by NASA to star system Polaris to initiate alien contact?), jokes and take **song requests** on the way play a few **From Me To You** at key monuments! Lastly we'll learn the history, meaning and inspiration behind those 227 puzzling **Rock and Roll Music** songs. And if you want to know what a particular song/lyrics was about/meaning - just ask! Don't worry - no paid **Ticket To Ride** needed to aboard this musical escapade - like all our events - attendance is 100% free - as long as you are genuinely passionate about music (preferably like Beatles music!) **Medium to Fast Paced Walk / Fitness Test** Accept for stops at key monuments, this will be a non stop continuous **7 mile** "hike" at a **medium to fast pace** so it's advisable to wear trainers/something comfortable though an **Old Brown Shoe** will suffice as well. Unfortunately, given the large distance that will be covered in a relatively short time frame (2.5 hours) - if you are a slow walker/impaired or not very fit- this event might not be appropriate for you. A quick basic fitness test would be - can you easily run 10 meters fast without any issues? Lastly - **I Don't Want To Spoil The Party** but the no go decision is obviously weather dependent so let's hope it turns out to be a **Good Day Sunshine**. If any significant or prolonged **Rain** is forecast then we will postpone to a future date. **The Fool On The Hill** Lucas

🔭NASA Confirms Life on Mars: View With Telescopes Over Drinks ☾Prov Date☽🪐
Fri, Jul 24, 6:15 PMIf you're looking for salacious headlines this is not the place! But seriously - do you look up and marvel with insatiable curiosity at both the beauty and the wonder of the **universe?** How it began, our place in it, how life evolved and where else in the cosmos other non-microbial life might live (almost every star you see has planets orbiting with up to **20 billion habitable exoplanets** easily in our galaxy alone!)? And no I didn't make it up - unless you've been in hibernation or have zero idea about Humanity's greatest endeavours - you'll know **NASA** really have found the best evidence to date of **ancient life on Mars.** So we'll defo take a look at the red planet as well the potential life harbouring moons of **Jupiter**, the majestic rings of **Saturn**, the international space station, Tau Ceti star with **2 Earth like planets** orbiting in the habitable zone, remnants of **supernova** witnessed by our early ancestors plus a range of other fascinating celestial wonderments (comets, star systems, **galaxies**) over drinks and engaging chats and banter this Sept fully hosted by me - a passionate amateur astronomer and former global Reuters journalist covering big picture science related stories. In between observing - we'll have **drinks and engaging chats** on all astronomy related topics for those inclined (Astrobiology, SETI/Femi Paradox, cosmology, space exploration, exoplanetology, astrophysics etc) as well as non space chatter and banter too. No doubt I'll hear the usual jokes we've all heard hundreds of times before! If those don't make you laugh, then my impersonation of Los Angeles ET will! 👽 **====Joining Astronomers Group & Telescopes =====** I'm able to take a limited number of people (please only RSVP if you can make it) to join my friendly informal relaxed London amateur astronomers' club that have been for over a decade with their regulars made up of up to about 150 people. As there will be people attending from this private Astronomers group as well as others from one of my other groups - the total attendees will be far higher than rsvps here and the public liability insurance only covers a max number of people - hence I need to impose strict limits on attendance. Over the years we have enjoyed numerous social evenings of stargazing and thought provoking chatter with people of all ages and varying levels of astronomy knowledge - so complete beginners that are genuinely curious about the universe are very welcome. If you are just looking to meet generic randoms then there are others groups that will better cater for that. The world renowed **BBC Television Sky at Night** also attended our events pre covid and interviewed some of us for it's show that aired on BBC1 in Feb 2019. BBC **Radio London** (94.9 FM / digital) were there Aug 2023 to cover our meteor shower event broadcasting live to millions of Londoners for 3 hours You don't need a telescope as you will be able to view through scopes belonging to me and other club members (as long as you behave responsibly and don't temper with expensive equipment). If you have your own telescope/binoculars feel free to bring along and I can help you setting it up if you're a newbie. Alcoholic beverage (wine, beer, cider only), hot drinks and food/snacks will be available to purchase from the indoor cafe at the observation point which Regent's park keep open exclusively for our group so no need to bring your own drinks/snacks **====ITINERARY=====** We will meet outside Camden Station. After a short wait for anyone delayed, I will escort everyone to our observation point in the park about 15-20 minutes walk away and brief you in terms of what to expect, observing etiquette, tips, equipment handling and take any questions you have - weather general or astronomy/cosmology related. **After Drinks:** Unless I have a very important 9AM Thursday deadline for a client presentation or something - most of us usually head our way back to Camden for another drink till about midnight. I will annouce the pub to all on the walk back. **===What Can You Expect To See (this time of year)? ====** * Orion Nebula * Jupiter and 4 moons * Meteors * Andromedia Galaxy * Saturn, rings & moon * Star clusters such as the Pleiades & Owl Cluster etc * International Space station fly by * Venus & Mercury * Binary & tripple star systems (think planet *Tatooine in* Starwars!), * Neptune * Uranuus * Mars * Our moon * A look towards the galactic centre where that supermassive £22b black hole sits (Sagittarius A) More here from Jodrell Bank Observatory/Astrophysics Centre: [http://www.jb.man.ac.uk/astronomy/nightsky/](http://www.jb.man.ac.uk/astronomy/nightsky/) Guide to viewing the cosmos for beginners: [https://phys.org/news/2018-05-universe-distant-starstips-cosmology-backyard.html#jCp](https://phys.org/news/2018-05-universe-distant-starstips-cosmology-backyard.html#jCp) **===Weather Dependent=====** The event is subject to clear skies forecasts on the night so if on the actual afternoon of the event the weather forecasts looks unsuitable beyond doubt then I will postpone so please check the event status on the day of the event .
