SF Board Gaymers Meetup (in Dogpatch)

Sat, Jul 11, 8:00 PM
From SF Board Gaymers
4.9

\*\*\* We are returning to our regular 2nd Saturday schedule \*\*\* All genders and sexualities are welcome at our meetup; we are an inclusive community. As we have been for a while lately, we will be meeting in San Francisco at Dogpatch Games in - surprise surprise - Dogpatch. Dogpatch Games is very close to a MUNI stop. They have a large game library we can use but feel free to bring a game if there is something you particularly want to play. We have a well ventilated garage space, some side walk tables, and some indoor tables reserved for our group. There will be a $15 after tax fee for the 5 hour window regardless of when you show up, which is a discount from their normal rate if you are there for over 3 hours. After the event is officially over at 6PM you can keep hanging out / playing games if you like at the store's standard hourly rate. Some of us usually get dinner afterwards. Be there or be square!

Who doesnt love the thrill of besting their comrades in a thrilling and nail biting race!! Well tonight, for the first time ever, we are playing board games that exclusively have racing as part of the game! We've got some super cool and fun new games coming out!! First up, Gabi will be hosting [HOT STREAK](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT_hxFwOdd4), a new and hard to find absolutely hilarious racing game that is so incredibly fun! Hot Streak is a game for hard luck gamblers who love to bet on and scream at the racers, who in this case happen to be mascots who may (or may not) keep running in the right direction! Justin will be hosting [HEAT: PEDAL TO THE METAL](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOmAr68_BGE), which puts players in the driver's seat of intense car races, jockeying for position to cross the finish line first, while managing their car's speed if they don't want to overheat. Selecting the right upgrades for their car will help them hug the curves and keep their engine cool enough to maintain top speeds. Ultimately, their driving skills will be the key to victory! Sam will be hosting [CAMEL UP](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQftUMnLZd8), a hilarious and strangely nail biting betting and racing game of camels who can pile up on top of eacthother and hordes of camels can move randomly all in a single turn. But like any race, there can be only one winner. Will the lonely camel whose lagging behind pile on top of the ones in front of it to claim victory or will the front runner win?!?! Anything goes in this hilarious game. Hetul will be hosting [SUMMIT](https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/37162/summit), be the first to reach the top of the newly discovered 10,000 metre peak and score 100 points. Sounds simple! However, in this game of strategy you will need to navigate around moving obstacles and avoid capture by your opponents. Doubling, trebling and quadrupling may hasten your progress or send you tumbling down the mountain in all directions. Game roster includes: HOT STREAK - hilarious gambling / racing game HEAT: PEDAL TO THE METAL - upgrade your car to win CAMEL UP - goofy and glorious betting game of absurdity SUMMIT - be the first to the top! TOKAIDO - monks on a walk - a race for enlightenment ESCAPE FROM ATLANTIS - get off the crumbling island with hazards in the water. ESCAPE: THE CURSE OF THE TEMPLE - classic indiana temple escape +more to be announced HOW WE FUNCTION: \*\*We can teach you how to play all of the games we host. You can get more info about each game by clicking the above links. Feel free to bring any games (even if its off theme!) and invite your friends! \*\* This meetup starts at 6 with games usually beginning around 6:30 /7ish. Games fill up on a first come first serve basis. No worries if you arrive after 7, just understand that you may have to partner up / hang out until a new round of gaming begins. \*\* New to our group? Come on out! Come on up and introduce yourself to one of our tables hosting a game. We'll make sure you have a game to play. Friends First. Games Always.

Legal Essentials for Game Developers: Privacy, Safety & IP

Legal Essentials for Game Developers: Privacy, Safety & IP

Wed, Jul 22, 12:30 AM
From SF Game Development
4.6

SF Game Development is excited to be featuring two incredible talks on the legal essentials every game developer needs to know — privacy, safety, and intellectual property. Join us in person at **DNA Lounge** on **Tuesday, July 21st from 5:30pm–9:00pm**. Don't miss this unique opportunity to learn from industry experts, who will take the stage at 7:00 pm. Whether you're a seasoned game developer, an aspiring artist, a student, or an indie creator, this event is designed for you. Come mingle with like-minded professionals and enthusiasts, and enjoy some pizza sponsored by SF Game Development and any additional pizza available for purchase from the DNA restaurant. There's a full-service bar at the venue with all proceeds supporting the venue. Your participation helps us continue hosting fantastic events in their 3,000 sqft space. You'll also get a chance to demo indie games and meet the speakers involved with the event. **Get Equipped With IP Tips & Tricks** **Jonathan Downing — Attorney & Storyteller at Tyz Law Group PC** Intellectual property law can be complicated, and there can be very real consequences for getting things wrong. But by equipping yourself with some basic understanding of the ins and outs of how this body of law operates, you can both avoid costly missteps and better protect your work. Jonathan has been gaming since the days of blowing dust out of NES cartridges and trying to figure out how to work a Power Glove, and combines that lifelong passion with over a decade of experience in the video games legal space. An intellectual property counselor with expertise in copyright across the entertainment and technology spaces, he's worked both in-house for a AAA game studio and as outside counsel for developers and publishers of all shapes and sizes. At Tyz Law Group, he helps clients protect and enforce their IP rights in an increasingly crowded market. (He never did figure out how to work that Power Glove, though.) **Kid's Privacy and Safety: Navigating Unprecedented Complexity** **Joe Newman — Senior Legal Counsel at k-ID** Today, a frankly outrageous number of new laws and regulations are targeting kids, games, and online interactions. Learn how a team of gaming compliance veterans (and mega-nerds) have been rewriting the compliance playbook for the whole tech industry. Joe has spent over a decade in the video games industry working on kids' privacy and safety issues — at think tanks, as in-house counsel for Electronic Arts and Ubisoft, and in private practice counseling everyone from indie teams to some of the largest video game publishers in the world. At k-ID, he builds automated compliance solutions that scale for the next generation of online services, delivering meaningful global compliance while empowering kids and teens everywhere. **See you all there!** Thank you everyone for RSVPing for our SF Game Development event with our fellow indie game developers. We can't wait to see everyone there. Make sure to arrive at 5:30pm for networking and game demos. You MUST RSVP on Meetup, Luma, or Eventbrite to secure your spot.
