Automate Your Business with Hermes Agent - Keep Private and Take Control
Fri, Aug 14, 11:30 PM**This is a paid event.** Early-bird tickets for **$149** are available until 7th August. Tickets will be **$249** thereafter. Get your tickets on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/1993880315698?aff=oddtdtcreator **Overview** Ready to automate — on your own terms? A full-day, hands-on build at WSTI, where you'll set up a Business AI OS on **Hermes** — the open-source AI agent you run yourself. Lunch + optional consultation included. \> ***"I want AI actually running my business — but on my terms: my data, my computer, my costs."*** Sound familiar? You're ready for the next step. You'll build a Business AI OS — the foundation that holds your business's context, memory and tool connections and powers every Agent that runs on it. By day's end you'll have assembled a Chief-of-Staff agent that triages a whole inbox into one dashboard, plus a content agent for social — on a real business scenario, on software that's yours to take home. **Why Hermes — what a rented AI tool can't give you** \- 🔓 **Hermes Agent.** Free & open-source. Take Hermes home and set up the same thing for your own business, on your own computer. \- 🔒 **Your data stays with you.** Hermes runs on your own machine and connects to your own accounts — your emails never sit on someone else's cloud. \- 💸 **Your model, your cost — your choice.** You're not locked to one paid provider: plug in a low-cost model, or an all-in subscription if you prefer. You control the bill. \- 📱 **It lives where you do.** Connect Hermes to WhatsApp and run your business from your phone — get the morning's inbox triage sent straight to you. **What You'll Walk Out With** * **A Business AI OS that knows your business** — its context, voice, prices and tools — running on Hermes, on a real scenario (the foundation everything else builds on) * **A Chief of Staff that runs your inbox for you** — a team of specialist agents that sort, draft and prioritise every email into one dashboard, and run themselves every morning on a schedule (drafts only — never sends without you) * **A content agent for the other direction** — it spots a happy-customer email and writes ready-to-post Instagram/Facebook content (inbound **and** outbound, one system) * **An optional free 30-minute AI consultation** to map your next step **Who This Is For** \- SME owners and founders who want automation without giving up cost control or data privacy \- Working professionals who want a self\-hosted\, no\-lock\-in setup they fully own \- Anyone curious how Western Sydney businesses are running on AI Agents **What to Expect** * **Background** — what a Business AI OS is, and why open-source + self-hosted matters for cost and privacy * **Demo** — a live Chief of Staff triaging a full inbox * **Hands-on all day** — install Hermes → give it your business memory → build an Operations Agent → save it as a skill + schedule it → build specialist sub-agents → assemble a Chief of Staff → extend it with content/social * **Lunch + networking** with other Western Sydney business owners, founders and builders * **Next steps** + your optional free consultation **FAQ** **What is a Business AI OS?** A personal AI operating system for your business — the layer that knows the business (context, memory) and connects to your own tools, so it can spawn the right Agent for any task. **What platform do you use?** Hermes — an open-source AI agent framework (by Nous Research) that runs on your own computer and works with any AI model. It's free, so you can take the exact setup home. **Where does my data go?** Hermes runs on the computer in front of you and connects to your own accounts — your data stays with you, not on someone else's cloud. **Can you set it up and run it for me?** Yes. If you'd rather not run it yourself, our 1-on-1 AI OS Build Support can set it up and maintain it on **your own private server** — a dedicated setup that stays yours, never a shared cloud. Ask at your free consultation. **Do I need to know AI or coding?** No coding — Hermes has a friendly desktop app. New to AI? An intro taster experience helps but isn't required. **Do I need a laptop?** No — WSTI provides one to make learning as smooth as possible. We prepare tools, licences, configurations, learning projects and materials beforehand for you. Bring your own if you'd like to take notes. **Is lunch included?** Yes. **Notice of Photography and Filming** By entering this event, you acknowledge that photography, audio, and video recording may occur. Your attendance constitutes your consent to be photographed, filmed, and/or recorded and to the release, publication, exhibition, or reproduction of such media for promotional purposes by Western Sydney Tech Innovators (WSTI). If you prefer not to be photographed or recorded, please inform a WSTI team member upon arrival. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Australian Skeptics in the Pub - BUILDING TRUST IN AI AND ROBOTS
Thu, Aug 6, 8:00 AMArtificial intelligence and robotics are advancing at an extraordinary pace. However, despite this rapid technological progress, robots remain largely absent from most people's everyday lives. Why? In this talk, **Resul Dagdanov** explores the gap between what robots can do and what people actually want. Drawing on research from robotics, psychology, and business, he examines the factors that influence whether AI-driven robotic technologies succeed or fail outside the laboratory. The discussion challenges the assumption that better technology naturally leads to wider adoption. Instead, it argues that the future of robotics depends on understanding people first and then designing machines that solve real-world problems to satisfy human needs. As robots become increasingly capable, the real question may not be whether they can perform tasks with highest accuracy, but whether we are designing them in ways that people want to live and work with. Resul Dagdanov is a robotics engineer and researcher pursuing a PhD at the University of Technology Sydney's Robotics Institute. His research focuses on human-centric robotics: designing intelligent robots that can work alongside humans, with humans, and for humans. Drawing on engineering, psychology, and human behaviour, he explores how humans and robots can collaborate in everyday settings. As he wanders through this steppe lands of robotics, his research is guided by the principle: putting people first. His work explores an important question: if robots are becoming increasingly capable, what will it take for people to trust, accept, and adopt them in their daily lives? **After the presentation:** Following the presentation and questions, if there's time we will hand the microphone over to one audience member for a 5 minute chat on a sceptical topic of their choice. It can be a news item, your own sceptical "special subject" or an encounter with everyday scepticism. If you're interested in sharing something with your fellow pubbers, contact us before the talk. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- On the first Thursday of each month, Australian Skeptics and friends get together for Skeptics in the Pub. People generally start arriving at around 6pm after work. The talk begins at 7pm and lasts for about 30 minutes. The night finishes when the last person leaves. Enjoy a meal and a drink accompanied by lively discussion, free spoon bending lessons and the company of other sceptics, as we cover a variety of interesting topics. There is no need to belong to Australian Skeptics - all are welcome. Bring friends too. Please take a moment to read our [Code of Conduct](https://www.skeptics.com.au/code-of-conduct/). **REMINDER - If you are feeling ill or showing any signs or symptoms of a possible COVID (or indeed any) infection, please do not attend.** Parking is available nearby at: * 71 York Street Car Park (Wilson Parking) * Landmark Car Park (Secure Parking), 24 York Street * 321 Kent Street Car Park (Wilson Parking), ENTRY 86 Sussex Street * Queen Victoria Building Car Park (Wilson Parking), 111 York Street

AI Project Hub
Thu, Aug 6, 8:00 AMWelcome to **WSTI's AI Project Hub**—the hands-on heart of the WSTI community's AI Shed model. This isn't a traditional class or a lecture. It’s a weekly, drop-in "Shed" designed for collaborative, project-based learning, where we support each other turning ideas (beginner or ambitious) into real, working prototypes and projects. Whether you're a founder with a specific problem, a developer testing a new tool, or a complete beginner curious about what you can make, this is your space to build, learn, and collaborate. **What to expect:** * **Quick Pitch:** To spark some inspiration, we’ll have a few informal, low-pressure "progress check-ins" where attendees can briefly share what they’re working on. * **Space to Build:** No formal lectures here. Just a supportive environment to polish your prototype, refine your code, or finalise your pitch. * **Guides on the Side:** Our technical mentors will be mingling in the room. They’re ready to offer a helpful nudge, architectural advice, or a tool recommendation if you hit a roadblock. * **Community Wisdom:** If our mentors don’t have the answer, they’ll connect you with someone else in the room who does. We’re all about sharing what we learn. * **Curiosity is Welcome:** You don’t need a hackathon project to pull up a chair. If you’re a regular from our Project Hub looking to share your knowledge, or just a curious neighbour. We have community laptops with access to some AI tools if you aren't able to bring your own. **Tools/Topics discussed may include:** * ChatGPT, Claude, Google Gemini, Opensource AI Models. * Platforms like n8n and other automation tools. * Coding vibe coding like Lovable, Replit, Antigravity and Cursor. * Frameworks such as BMAD. * Image and video generators like Midjourney, Nanobanana and Video models such as Kling, Veo & Seedance. *By attending this event, you consent that you may be photographed and recorded on video. These photos and videos may be used for marketing and promotional purposes in the future. If you have any concerns please let the team know upon arrival.*
