Gene Writing & Biotechnology: How We Learned to Program Life (tickets on LUMA)
Thu, Sep 17, 5:00 PM**For most of history, biology was something we watched happen. In the last decade, it has quietly become something we can design.** What does it actually mean to "write" a gene rather than just cut one? Why do scientists now talk about DNA the same way engineers talk about code? And how close are we to a world where medicines, materials and even the food on our plates are built from the cell up? **[*TICKETS MUST BE PURCHASED ON LUMA HERE: FROM 12 EUROS*](https://luma.com/rahawnjd?utm_source=meetup)** In this Growth Lab Live session, Marc Güell takes us inside one of the most consequential frontiers of modern science. We look at where CRISPR ends and gene writing begins, why the ability to add new instructions to a genome unlocks things simple editing cannot, and what all of this means for medicine, industry and the founders quietly building the next generation of biotech out of Barcelona. **What you will take away:** * What synthetic biology actually is, in plain English * How gene writing extends what CRISPR started, and why it matters * Where engineered biology is already showing up in medicine and industry * A realistic timeline for the therapies and technologies people keep hearing about * What it takes to turn a lab discovery into a real biotech company **About the speaker:** Marc Güell is ICREA Research Professor at UPF and head of the Translational Synthetic Biology group. He trained at Harvard Medical School and MIT under George Church, one of the founding figures of modern synthetic biology, before returning to Barcelona to build his own lab. He is an EMBO Young Investigator, holds Spain's National Research Award for Young Talent, and is the founder of Integra Therapeutics, one of several biotech companies he has spun out of his own research. Agenda: * 1845h - Doors open * 1900h - Talk starts * 2015h - Q&A * 2045h - Drinks & Networking Tickets: https://luma.com/rahawnjd?utm_source=meetup Join us at Growth Lab, where ambitious minds gather to explore ideas that fuel personal and professional growth. Each session dives into powerful strategies and insights across psychology, philosophy, longevity, economics, and cutting-edge tech — designed to help you unlock your best self. Why A/B Testing Sucks - Hatch Mixer Barcelona
Wed, Sep 16, 4:30 PM**UX Hub** is thrilled to welcome you to our next event: **Why A/B Testing Sucks** Most teams don’t have a problem with running experiments; they have a problem with how they interpret them. This talk shows how our industry’s obsession with p-values, “95% significance,” and single-number uplifts quietly leads to bad product decisions, misunderstood results, and wasted opportunities. Instead of yet another stats lecture, we’ll unpack how A/B tests and p-values can easily get misread in practice and why classical significance testing is so hard to explain to stakeholders. Then, we’ll explore a more intuitive way to talk about experiments: in terms of the probability of uplift, minimum expected impact, and business value, not arbitrary thresholds. You’ll walk away with practical guidance and report patterns you can use tomorrow. So that your A/B tests stop “sucking” and start supporting clearer, more honest decisions in your product team. **Speaker** Dr.-Ing. Maximilian Speicher is Director of Product Design at BESTSECRET. His (research) interests lie primarily with novel ways to do UX research and design, responsible and sustainable design, and beyond-screen and physical–digital interaction. He is also a freelance UX and product consultant, plays ringtennis, and blogs at maxspeicher.com/newsletter. **Hosts** This event is hosted by UX Hub BCN in partnership with Hatch Conference **Location:** Wallapop HQ **To join us, just:** ✅ RSVP here on Meetup ✅ RSVP here on Hatch conference - https://mixers.hatchconference.com/e/barcelona-uxhub ✅ Answer [this form](https://48db4b2d.sibforms.com/serve/MUIFALfB0bn_p1G9zS7yYICl8fr4aT-cjBYl7Ow1DKvi6gv1FzDSE3Dt9fmIH5k78PONlJNEn2S6UnpOuo_VNIeUd69dkI5RJ0kaw7TjtxPjtwYy8KKc80BkMTozTqyRXiKCcXK9G8y-NccOB4S1Ci0SPkuWLJ5BCVWC80yGZ9bhinpCpoBKNV5cyovr3wH4BWM1_lNTf8IsVTvO) **Details:** 🗓️ Date: Wednesday, September 16, 2026 ⏰ Time: 18:30 CET 📍 Location: Wallapop HQ **Why You’ll Love It:** Learn how to stop misinterpreting A/B tests and start making clearer, more confident product decisions with frameworks and reporting patterns you can use tomorrow. **Agenda:** 18:30\-19:00 \| Doors open 19:00–19:15 \| Introduction 19:15–18:55 \| Talk 18:55–19:15 \| Live Q&A **Educational partners:** [Interaction Design Foundation](https://ixdf.org/) [Uxcel](https://uxcel.com/?utm_medium=paid%20search&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=brand&utm_term=uxcel&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=23478421564&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23478421564&gbraid=0AAAAAoYVYnfrZ5Yt8YP5nzmg5PiQ4LvIK&gclid=CjwKCAjw6rfSBhAqEiwA_yocppX7EENM8-y2gWRMnWIprvZnHOrWMLhhAxQKPof1jyFAryWd1HY_ERoCJIQQAvD_BwE) **Sponsor:** [Uxia](https://www.uxia.app/) **P.S.** Please make sure to show up on time. Biodiversitat transescalar i adaptació climàtica
