London Local Filmmakers Collective (LLFC) — Kickoff Cocktails and Music!
Sat, Jun 13, 6:30 PMWe’re kicking off our very first **London Local Film Collective** **(LLFC)** meetup at **Nightjar**, a gorgeous vintage-style bar in Shoreditch. It is a perfect spot to gather, talk shop, and get to know each other before we start making all kinds of brilliant low-budget chaos together. You can check the venue out here before the meetup: **[Nightjar](https://www.barnightjar.com/).** The bar is at **129 City Road, London EC1V 1JB**, near Old Street. **A quick RSVP note: We will be making reservations the night before, and they charge a 10-pound no-show fee per person, so please be considerate. Because this venue is reservation-based, please do not RSVP yes unless you’re fairly certain you can attend. If something comes up, please update your RSVP as soon as possible and let us know. More than two no-shows will result in removal from the group. No villain arc, just logistics.** This first meetup is all about connection. Come by, have a drink, meet other filmmakers, and tell us what you’re working on — whether that’s a short film, a documentary, a script, a micro-budget feature, a half-finished idea living in your Notes app, or a project you’d love to jump onto with other people. Directors, actors, writers, cinematographers, editors, photographers, animators, and curious *“I know I want in, I just don’t know where yet”* people are all welcome. We’ll meet at **7:30 PM**, and I’ll send more details and meetup instructions closer to the day. Let’s make some cool stuff together!

UK Premiere of 4K Restoration: Till We Meet Again
Thu, Jun 4, 5:30 PMA novice leaves her cloistered life to help a pilot on the run, becoming unexpectedly close, in what is perhaps the most underestimated film of the Borzage filmography. * Director Frank Borzage * With Ray Milland, Barbara Britton, Walter Slezak, Lucille Watson * USA 1944. 88min * Digital 4K (restoration) * Certificate PG When a US plane is shot down in occupied France, its pilot finds shelter in a convent. He encounters a young novice who agrees to help him escape the country, to save him and his secret cache of documents from the Nazis. The night casts a veil of intimacy over the couple, who develop a bond beyond physical love. Full of suspense and expressionistic chiaroscuro, this transcendental drama remains striking for its mix of thrill, torment and wonder. Restored in 4K by Universal Pictures and The Film Foundation at NBCUniversal StudioPost laboratory, from the original 35mm negative nitrate, a 35mm composite fine grain and the 35mm optical sound track negative nitrate. Special thanks to Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. We will meet near the box office at 18:15, and go for a drink and/or snack after the film at the venue. I will book my seat about a week in advance and will add a comment to let attendees know. Dave

All Out of Bubblegum Film Club 140 / Black Swan
Tue, Jun 2, 6:00 PMBlack Swan is a 2010 American psychological horror thriller film directed by Darren Aronofsky from a screenplay by Mark Heyman, John McLaughlin, and Andres Heinz, based on a story by Heinz. The film stars Natalie Portman in the lead role, with Vincent Cassel, Mila Kunis, Barbara Hershey, and Winona Ryder in supporting roles. The plot revolves around a production of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake by the company of New York City Ballet. The production requires a ballerina to play the innocent and fragile White Swan, for which the committed dancer Nina Sayers (Portman) is a perfect fit, as well as the dark and sensual Black Swan, which are qualities better embodied by the new rival Lily (Kunis). Nina is overwhelmed by a feeling of immense pressure when she finds herself competing for the role, causing her to lose her tenuous grip on reality and descend into madness. The film received five nominations at the 83rd Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director (Aronofsky), with Portman winning Best Actress; it also received four nominations at the 68th Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director (Aronofsky), with Portman winning Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama. In 2021, Portman's performance was included in The New Yorker's list of the best film performances of the 21st century. Please note we will not be showing the film at the meeting. Make sure you watch the film before you attend and then come and join in with the conversation. It’s just a discussion. It’s not a screening. We will be meeting in The Ludski Bar in the Rio Cinema.
