Life drawing has long been a foundational practice of classical art and is regarded as the best way to learn to draw the human form. However, most life drawing classes focus on static poses without intention or meaning. These are great for learning human anatomy, but what do they tell you about the character? Teaming up with our talented life models, you will learn traditional life drawing techniques with a focus on capturing models with props, armour, and costumes in fantastical and story driven poses. **In this class, you will:** * Be guided through a fantasy-themed life drawing class with a costumed model * Learn figure drawing techniques * Gain an understanding of human anatomy and how it interacts with a variety of materials * Learn how to effectively pose characters to convey meaning and story **What to bring:** * Your preferred paper and drawing materials, but basic materials are available if needed. * Your awesome self. July Meetup for the Sydney Nature Journal Club

Come along to our **July meetup for the Sydney Nature Journal Club**. National Tree Day is 26 July. We will explore this theme in the Botanical Gardens. This is a chance to connect, spend some time in nature and journal together. I will offer some guidance to start. After we can share journal pages and ideas. **What to bring:** Bring along sketchbooks/paper and your favourite drawing materials (pens, pencils, watercolour, acrylic, anything you have). I will have extra materials on the day if you want to explore other mediums. \*\*Where:\*\* Botanical Gardens **Cost:** Suggested donation is $10 annual fee, $5 casual fee. Welcome to our Nauti Sketch Club! Our creative community hub and warehouse workspace in Forest Lodge/Glebe hosts monthly life drawing nights, complete with an optional workshop. Gather your friends, sit back, and enjoy drinks and snacks (BYO) while you spend the evening drawing the nude human figure from a professional live model. Sunday Training

We are a branch of **Tenshinshō-den Katori Shintō-ryū**, training under the **Shinbukan Dōjō in Narita, Japan**, one of Japan’s oldest classical martial traditions (*koryū bujutsu*), preserving techniques passed down for over five centuries. Our group welcomes individuals with a sincere interest in traditional martial arts and a commitment to long-term, disciplined study. Training is non-commercial — fees are minimal, the **first week is free**, and **parking is available**. Sessions are held **every Sunday, except NSW public holidays**. To start, all you need is **comfortable clothing**, better if it is a keikogi and hakama. Equipment is provided for beginners, and guidance will be given later if you continue training seriously. Practice begins with **kenjutsu** using the *bokutō* (wooden sword) and progresses to **iaijutsu** (using a *iaitō*). Later we also study **bō** (staff) and **naginata** (glaive). After several years, practitioners may train in **nitō-ryū** (dual swords), **kodachi** (short sword), **yari** (spear), and other parts of the curriculum. Please note: the **Meetup member count does not reflect actual attendance** — our core group is small, dedicated, and focused on authentic training.
