Business Communication: Speak Clearly and Confidently in Meetings
Tue, Jul 14, 4:00 PM**This is a practical communication workshop in Berlin for international women in business working across corporate, consulting, startups, freelancing, entrepreneurship, or their own business, especially if they often have to make their point in rooms where confidence, clarity, and timing matter.** **You know what you want to say. But in the moment, you add too much context, soften the point, or wait too long to speak. Every time that happens, someone else gets the visibility, the credit, or the opportunity.** **That gap does not close by itself.** **The workshop helps you communicate with more clarity, confidence, and authority without sounding aggressive or over-rehearsed.** **This is a small group of max 20. You do not need perfect English.** #### **What you should expect** * Making your point clearly without over-explaining * Asking questions that sound confident, not apologetic * Disagreeing without backing down or burning the relationship * Giving a recommendation instead of hedging * Responding when someone interrupts, talks over you, or takes credit for what you said * Getting into the conversation when the room is moving fast and you cannot find your entry point #### **What you leave with** * A framework for clearer professional communication * Scripts for meetings, client calls, pitches, and stakeholder conversations * Responses for interruptions, dismissal, pushback, or being talked over * Practical language you can use immediately at work and in business * A follow-up email with the tools and scripts from the session **About the host** Sumita Kar is the founder of Take a Brava Leap (TABL), based in Berlin. She spent 13 years building her career across global teams, moving from associate level to Vice President across customer success, cross-cultural leadership, C-level client management, high-stakes escalations, negotiations, and commercial execution. In 2023 she was recognized as one of the Top 10 Best Indian Women Leaders from Germany by Women's Entrepreneur Magazine. She has navigated these rooms as an international woman where she was often the only one. She built this session so you don't have to figure it out the way she did.

Soundness Check Circle | Mental Health Support
Sun, Jul 26, 1:00 PMHi, I am Zoe, a software engineer by profession. I have been running this support group since a shortly after covid 😇 The location is confusing if you route from google maps. Please note that it’s at Choriner Str. 12, 10119 Berlin. Do note the street and house number to reach ☑️ the bar next to it is always closed so please don’t get confused by it. What to expect in the circle: \- The first 45 minutes we can spend to get coffee and settle down \- On a volunteer basis\, each of the attendee will then get some time to share things that they are dealing with\, perhaps for 2\-5 minutes \- You can skip sharing even if you are in a circle\, there's no force \(and there will never be\) on you to share\, staying silent and listening is completely ok \- Attendees can recommend books or reading material if they like ///// ….. /////// Code of conduct: 📓 Please arrive on time. There are no requirements or expectations of any kind. Speaking is encouraged but not compulsory. All issues are legitimate and deserve attention. Everyone is entitled to share their experience, including yourself. Speak honestly and respectfully. Try not to downplay or invalid other people's feelings, or your own. Pay attention to physical and emotional boundaries. Avoid raising your voice, interrupting or talking over anyone else. Be aware of how much you’re participating so everyone gets a chance to speak. Refrain from giving unsolicited advice; what works for you may not for others. Respect privacy during this dialogue and beyond. What is said during the Meetup is not meant to be repeated outside. Notify the facilitator if you feel distressed or upset, or if you find someone's behavior inappropriate. Feel free to step out if you need to. Last but not least, have respect for everyone’s religious / cultural / nationality / race / gender / sexual / diverse backgrounds. ☀️

The TMOD also introduces the key roles and functionaries for that session. **Prepared Speeches:** A significant portion of the meeting is dedicated to prepared speeches. Members working through various projects in the Toastmasters education program deliver speeches based on their chosen projects. Each speech is evaluated by a designated evaluator who provides feedback on strengths and areas for improvement. **Table Topics:** Table Topics is a segment where impromptu speaking skills are tested. The Table Topics Master presents a series of short, unprepared speaking challenges or questions, and members or guests are invited to come to the podium and give a brief, improvised response. **Evaluations:** Following the prepared speeches and Table Topics segment, evaluators provide constructive feedback to speakers. These evaluations focus on content, delivery, body language, and time management. The goal is to help speakers improve their speaking skills. **Reports and Functionary Roles:** The meeting may include various functionary roles, such as the Timer, Grammarian, Ah-Counter, and others, who report on their observations and contributions to the session. These roles help members improve their language and time management skills. **General Evaluator:** The General Evaluator provides an overall assessment of the meeting, highlighting what went well and offering suggestions for improvement. They may also evaluate the evaluators' performance. **Awards and Recognitions:** Toastmasters sessions often conclude with awards and recognitions, including the Best Speaker, Best Evaluator, and Best Table Topics Speaker. These awards encourage members to strive for excellence in their speaking and leadership abilities. **Closing:** The meeting concludes with closing remarks from the Toastmaster of the Day, who may express gratitude to participants and encourage them to continue their Toastmasters journey. **Networking and Socialising:** After the formal meeting, members and guests often have the opportunity to network, socialise, and discuss their experiences in a more relaxed setting.
