After a day of hiking, we'll finish with dinner and the spectacular Winter Festival of Lights! ✨ *** ## 🥾 About the Trip Let's escape the city for a full day of fresh air, friendship, and breathtaking scenery! We'll explore the natural side of Niagara Falls — less time in the tourist crowds, more trails, trees, and spectacular views. We'll meet outside the **Fairmont Royal York on Front Street West**, travel together by GO Train to Niagara Falls, and make our way to **Niagara Glen Nature Reserve** for a hike among ancient boulders, winding forest paths, and the turquoise waters of the Niagara River. The trail features stairs, uneven ground, elevation changes, and a climb back up out of the gorge. This is a proper hike, so please read the expectations below before signing up. *** ## 🌲 The Trail Experience Niagara Glen is a beautiful natural area carved into the Niagara Gorge over thousands of years. We'll follow forest trails, take photos, enjoy the fall colours, and experience a side of Niagara Falls that many visitors never see. The planned hike is approximately **4 km**, although the terrain makes it more demanding than the distance might suggest. We'll have opportunities to pause and enjoy the scenery, but everyone needs to be prepared for the physical demands of the route. ### ⚠️🥾 IMPORTANT: HIKE EXPECTATIONS — PLEASE READ CAREFULLY 🥾⚠️ **This is a real hiking trail, not a casual walk.** Before signing up, please be confident that you can: * ✔️ Walk for an extended period of time. * ✔️ Handle uneven terrain, stairs, elevation changes, and the climb back up out of the gorge. * ✔️ Keep up with the group at a steady pace without needing frequent or extended stops. * ✔️ Manage a full day of walking, travel, dinner, and evening sightseeing. **This is not the event to use to test your fitness level or see how things go.** If you're unsure whether you can complete the hike, please choose an easier event instead. If you find yourself unable to keep up, you may need to turn back or continue independently where the route and circumstances allow. The group cannot stop or slow down significantly to accommodate someone who is struggling, as this affects the experience and schedule for everyone. Please make an honest assessment of your abilities before committing. The goal is to keep the day safe, enjoyable, and on track for the entire group. *** ## 🍔 Dinner at Chuck's Roadhouse After the hike, we'll head to **Chuck's Roadhouse on Clifton Hill** for a relaxed dinner. **Please note the only way to register for this adventure is on [our website.](https://www.wildernessunion.com/adventures/mt-nemo-fall-26)** **Mount Nemo is one of the best parts of the Niagara Escarpment and it's only a short drive from the city!** We'll follow the Bruce Trail for about 7 km along the top of the ridge, through old forest that grows right up to the cliff’s edge. Within a few minutes, while immersed in this UNESCO biosphere reserve, Toronto feels a lot further away than it is. This isn't a simple stroll but it is accessible for anybody wanting to get into hiking. The ground is broken up in the best way, with rock, roots and the odd scramble, and the route keeps changing character as we go. November is a good month to do it. The trail is quieter than in peak fall colour season, and depending on the year some leaves may still be hanging on. Most people arrive not knowing anyone, and by the time we're back at the cars you'll likely have a few new trail friends. **Accessibility** Wilderness Union is committed to making our adventures as accessible as possible. This unique adventure combines the Haliburton Wolf Cebtre and stunning Canadian landscapes. The **Haliburton Wolf Centre** is home to a small pack of magnificent Gray Wolves. From the Centre's large one way observation windows, we'll have the opportunity to watch and photograph these incredible animals behaving naturally in their forest habitat. Seeing wolves this close is an unforgettable experience and offers a rare glimpse into the lives of one of Canada's most iconic predators. The Wolf Centre also features informative exhibits where you'll learn about wolf behaviour, ecology, conservation and the important role wolves play in healthy ecosystems. Before we leave, we'll have time to browse the excellent nature-themed gift shop. After our visit, we'll enjoy lunch at the nearby **Cookhouse Restaurant**, a favourite local stop known for its welcoming atmosphere and great food. The drive itself is part of the adventure. Greetings Nature Lovers! **There's a reason we keep returning to Long Point. The birding can be absolutely spectacular!** Few places in Southern Ontario can match the sheer numbers and variety of birds found here during the fall. Our previous trips have been exceptional, and we're looking forward to another incredible day! Imagine watching thousands of Sandhill Cranes and Tundra Swans gathering in the fields, Bald Eagles soaring overhead and perhaps a few unexpected rarities. At times, it really does feel like you're living in a National Geographic special! Located along the shores of Lake Erie, **Long Point is one of Canada's most important birding destinations**, internationally recognized for its remarkable bird diversity and significance to migrating birds. We'll spend the day exploring some of the area's best birding hotspots, searching for Bald Eagles, Sandhill Cranes, Tundra Swans, waterfowl and a variety of migrating birds of prey, including Northern Harriers, Red-tailed Hawks, Rough-legged Hawks and American Kestrels. We'll make a short stop at **Ruthven Park** on the way, a wonderful location where we'll be looking for the charming Tufted Titmouse, Eastern Bluebirds and other woodland birds. As always, we'll keep our itinerary flexible. If something unusual turns up in the area, we may change our plans to give ourselves the best chance of seeing it.
