We will meet at Caulfield Railway Station outside Platform 4. We will ride to the highest Google rated Cafe that I've ever seen, a 4.9 now that's a bit scary !! As this is a small cafe , I will limit the numbers to 12. After the Transylvania Cafe lunch stop . It's a short ride to Hallam Railway station. Any type of bicycle will do as it is on roads and cycle paths. Bring water . Your bike needs to be in good order and wet weather gear if the forecast is for rain. Ride route [Caulfield- Transylvania ](https://ridewithgps.com/routes/54955098) RIDE REGISTRATION FORM The form should be available within a day or two of the ride announcement. ESSENTIAL ITEMS Functioning headlight & tail light Spare tube and a puncture kit MYKI card, ATM card/cash, basic tools, rain gear, food/snacks, etc WATER It's your responsibility to check the temperature and distance for the day and carry an appropriate amount of water. If you cannot make it to the ride please change your RSVP to 'NO' at least one day before the ride day. This ride is for MBTC club members, or those who have not yet done 3 days riding with us. Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail Ride: Ballarat to Linton Return (~80km)

Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail Ride: Ballarat to Linton Return (~80km)

Fri, Aug 7, 8:45 PM
From Melbourne Social
4.9

Join me for a full-day rail trail ride on the Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail. For this trip, we’ll ride the Ballarat to Linton section and then return the same way. The Ballarat to Smythesdale and Smythesdale to Linton sections are listed as around 20km and 17km respectively, so this plan works out to roughly 75–80km return once station access is included. The Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail is a high-standard rail trail with a mostly fine gravel / crushed granite style surface. It should be a scenic and steady day out, but it is still a long ride, so please read the fitness and bike notes before RSVPing. This ride is best suited to people with reasonable fitness who are comfortable riding at least 80km at around 15km/h. Please only RSVP if you are confident with that distance and pace. As this is an unsealed rail trail, a bike suitable for rail trail riding is recommended, such as a gravel bike, hybrid bike, touring bike, or mountain bike. **Links** Meetup start point: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/qJ8g4z8i5EZ9tvof8](https://maps.app.goo.gl/qJ8g4z8i5EZ9tvof8) Trail information: [https://www.railtrails.org.au/trails/ballarat-skipton-rail-trail/](https://www.railtrails.org.au/trails/ballarat-skipton-rail-trail/) Related video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5HYaaDir8M](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2t6xQI1fwnI) **Rough timeline** * 6:45am – Meet at V/Line Tickets and Information, Southern Cross Station * 7:15am – Catch the train from Southern Cross * Morning – Arrive in the Ballarat / Wendouree area and start riding towards Linton * Midday / early afternoon – Breaks and lunch along the way depending on pace and group needs * Afternoon – Turn around at Linton and ride back towards Wendouree * Evening – Return from Wendouree by V/Line Possible return train options from Wendouree include 6:37pm, 7:17pm, 8:12pm and 9:17pm. We can decide on the day depending on pace, breaks, train availability, and how the group is feeling. **Tickets** There is no event ticket required, but everyone is responsible for their own public transport fare / Myki or V/Line travel requirements. **What to bring** * Helmet * Front and rear bike lights * Puncture repair kit / spare tube * Enough water for a full-day ride * Lunch and snacks * Weather-appropriate clothing * Bike suitable for unsealed rail trail riding * Any personal medication or essentials you may need during the day **What to expect** * Distance: Roughly 75–80km return * Difficulty: Moderate to challenging because of the distance * Pace: Around 15km/h average riding pace * Surface: Mostly fine gravel / crushed granite rail trail surface * Vibe: Friendly, practical, low-pressure, but suited to people who are comfortable with a long ride **Important notes** This event is weather dependent and will not go ahead if rain is forecast. This event is also dependent on V/Line train availability. It may need to be cancelled or changed if there are coach replacements, major timetable changes, service disruptions, or if bike space becomes an issue. V/Line bike space is not guaranteed. Bicycles can be carried only if space is available, and the conductor decides whether bikes can be carried safely. Ballarat services are generally listed as having limited bike space, so please arrive early and be prepared for the possibility that travel with bikes may not be possible on the planned service. Large groups with bikes can be difficult on V/Line, so this meetup works best as a smaller group ride. Please only RSVP if you are confident riding the full distance at the expected pace and are comfortable riding on unsealed rail trail surfaces. **Other info** We’ll keep the ride social and supportive, but this is still a full-day cycling trip, so each rider should be reasonably self-sufficient with water, food, basic bike repair items, and fitness for the distance.

French Island Cycling Day Trip by Train + Ferry

French Island Cycling Day Trip by Train + Ferry

Sat, Jul 18, 7:45 PM
From Melbourne Social
4.9

Join me for a full-day cycling trip to French Island, travelling by PTV train and Western Port Ferry with our bikes. We’ll meet outside Arbory Bar & Eatery near Flinders Street Station at 5:45 am, then head to Platform 7 together. The plan is to catch the 6:09 am train, change at Frankston, continue to Stony Point, and then take the 8:15 am ferry to French Island. The ferry crossing is currently listed as about 15 minutes, so we should arrive at French Island around 8:30 am. Once on the island, we’ll spend the day cycling and exploring. There are several possible cycling routes on French Island, and the exact route or combination of routes will be decided closer to the event date based on weather, track conditions, ferry timing, and the group on the day. Parks Victoria lists several official ride options, from shorter rides such as the Redbill Manna Gum Woodland Ride, to longer options such as Link Road, Mount Wellington and Gartsides. French Island can have sandy and wet conditions, so a mountain bike is highly advised. A repair kit is essential. This is not a beginner ride. Reasonable fitness is required, and participants must be comfortable riding at least 50 km at around 15 km/h on mixed island conditions. We’ll take the 6:00 pm return ferry from French Island back to Stony Point, then travel back by train. We should arrive back at Flinders Street at around 8:45 pm, depending on connections and any delays. You’re welcome to come solo. This will be a practical, low-pressure day out, but please come prepared for a long day with early transport, ferry logistics, and off-road cycling conditions. **Links** * Meetup start point: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/fVuZ2fGtg799Uyk27](https://maps.app.goo.gl/fVuZ2fGtg799Uyk27) * French Island visitor guide and route map: [https://www.parks.vic.gov.au/-/media/project/pv/main/parks/documents/visitor-guides-and-publications/french-island/french-island-visitor-guide.pdf](https://www.parks.vic.gov.au/-/media/project/pv/main/parks/documents/visitor-guides-and-publications/french-island/french-island-visitor-guide.pdf) * Western Port Ferries timetable: [https://www.westernportferries.com.au/Prices-Timetable/Timetable](https://www.westernportferries.com.au/Prices-Timetable/Timetable) * Western Port Ferries fares: [https://www.westernportferries.com.au/Prices-Timetable/Fares](https://www.westernportferries.com.au/Prices-Timetable/Fares) * Related video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8XuwGPai0I](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8XuwGPai0I) **Rough timeline** * 5:45 am — Meet outside Arbory Bar & Eatery near Flinders Street Station * Around 6:00 am — Head to Platform 7 together * 6:09 am — Catch the train from Flinders Street * 7:14 am — Change at Frankston and continue to Stony Point * 8:15 am — Ferry from Stony Point to French Island * Around 8:30 am — Arrive at French Island * Morning to afternoon — Cycle and explore French Island * Lunch — BYO lunch break somewhere suitable on the island * Afternoon — Continue riding, route depending on conditions and group pace * 6:00 pm — Return ferry from French Island to Stony Point * 6:38 pm— Train back toward Melbourne * Around 8:45 pm — Expected return to Flinders Street Station **Tickets** Attendees must book their own ferry ticket online in advance, including bicycle fare. Due to limited storage for bicycles, Western Port Ferries recommends booking online if bringing a bike. Current listed return fares are $33.00 for an adult and $10.10 for a bicycle, but please check the official ferry fare page before booking because prices may change. The ferry is not a myki-ticketed service, so ferry tickets are separate from PTV train travel. **Note:** I haven’t booked my own ferry ticket yet. I’ll update this text once I’ve booked it. **What to bring** * Roadworthy mountain bike * Helmet * Front and back lights * Puncture repair kit * Spare tube or tubeless repair supplies * Lunch * Enough water for the day * Snacks * Weather-appropriate clothing * Any medication or personal first-aid items you may need * Myki or payment method for train travel * Pre-booked ferry ticket including bicycle fare **What to expect** * Distance: Around 50 km expected, depending on the final route * Difficulty: Moderate to challenging due to distance, early start, transport logistics, and possible sandy or wet conditions * Pace: Around 15 km/h average riding pace * Vibe: Friendly, practical, adventurous, and low-pressure, but not a beginner ride **Important notes** This event is weather dependent and will not go ahead if rain is forecast. This event also depends on PTV train availability and may need to be cancelled if there are bus replacements, major timetable changes, or other disruptions. Transport Victoria allows bikes on trains, but only folding bikes are allowed on buses and metropolitan rail replacement buses. Please check transport and ferry updates before the event. Western Port Ferries notes that weather, sea conditions, and tidal variations can affect operations, and passengers are encouraged to check operation times on the day of travel. Medical assistance is limited on French Island, so please ride within your ability and come prepared. Please be ready for a long day out. The early start is important because we need to make the ferry connection. **Other info** The final route will be decided closer to the date based on weather, track conditions, and who is attending. If conditions are poor, the ride may be shortened or cancelled. Please only RSVP if you are confident with the distance, terrain, bike setup, and full-day timing.

South Melbourne to Frankston Coastal Bike Ride (50km or 100km Option)

South Melbourne to Frankston Coastal Bike Ride (50km or 100km Option)

Sat, Aug 29, 10:45 PM
From Melbourne Social
4.9

Join me for a big, scenic ride down the bay — South Melbourne all the way to Frankston, hugging the coast the whole way. We'll meet outside the South Melbourne Life Saving Club at 8:45am for a quick hello, then roll out at 9:00am. The plan is a casual, social pace along the beach, staying together as a group with regroup points at the nice spots so no one gets left behind. We'll aim to reach Frankston around 12:30pm for a proper break and lunch. From there you've got two options. Do the \~50km one-way and catch the train home from Frankston, or turn around and ride back for the full \~100km. Both are completely fine — pick whatever suits you on the day. This is a long ride. Even at a relaxed pace, it's best suited to people who've done at least one 50–100km ride in the last few months. **Who this is for** * Riders with reasonable fitness who've recently done a 50km+ ride * Anyone keen on a long, social day out along the coast rather than a workout or a race * Solo riders very welcome — plenty of chatting along the way and at lunch **Links** * Meetup start point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/hZJc1HySxETfyy4KA **Timeline** * 8:45am – Meet outside South Melbourne Life Saving Club and say hi * 9:00am – Roll out and head south along the coast * 12:30pm – Reach Frankston, take a break and grab lunch 1:30pm – Option A: catch the train back from Frankston (\~50km done). – Option B: ride back to South Melbourne for the full \~100km * \~5:00pm – Full-loop riders arrive back at South Melbourne (approximate — depends on pace and breaks) **Transport** Frankston is on the Metro Frankston line, so the \~50km riders can train it home. Bikes are allowed on Melbourne trains — just avoid blocking doorways and give priority to other passengers. **Bring** * A bike in good working condition (please give it a once-over beforehand) * Helmet * Front and rear lights * Plenty of water * Weather-appropriate clothing (layers are smart for an early start) * A puncture repair kit (and the know-how to use it) * Snacks, and some cash/card for lunch and the train **Expect** * Difficulty: long distance, but a relaxed pace * Pace: casual and social — we ride together, not to drop anyone * Vibe: friendly, chatty, take-in-the-view * Group style: regroup points at scenic spots so we stay together **Important notes** * This isn't a race — it's a social ride, and we'll go at a comfortable group pace. * Please make sure your bike is roadworthy and you're comfortable with the distance you're taking on. * Weather-dependent: I'll post an update if conditions look unsafe, so keep an eye on the event page. * If your plans change, please update your RSVP so numbers stay clear. * Please ride within your own ability, obey road rules and share paths courteously with walkers and other riders. * You're joining at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety, gear and wellbeing on the day.
