OG Toluca Lake 5 mile-ish urban Halloween adventure walk!!!

Back for our 5th year !!! The Urban-ish Adventurists which includes legendary walkers Lori and Joe (legends in their own minds) collectively known as "JOLO” invite you to explore a Halloween adventure in Toluca Lake. We will be doing a 5 mile-ish walk around Toluca Lake and surrounding areas . This will be first official walk of several designed for the Halloween season . Make sure you join us for a Toluca lake or Burbank seasonal walk as they are historically best Halloween houses in the City. For the initial walk and one other we will also be doing a pre walk happy hour as a separate posting join us to socialize before we start the walk . Both events will start at the park Thankfully we have 4 hosts to assist . Grateful to have Lori, Eagle, John and myself as hosts to help with this fun event . As always we ask for extra patience as moving 100 ish people is a challenge . We will have a restroom break halfway into the walk at Bobs Big Boy on Riverside. We do our best to keep the walk in a 2 hour range, however could go longer by a mile or so and sometimes goes over time posted. Comfortable shoes, water, flashlight and a good attitude are suggested items to bring but not required. Remember it is suggested you get a minimum 10,000 steps a day. We can all achieve that healthy goal together. We help motivate each other. Come out to walk and socialize with nice friendly people and experience a good workout at the same time. Hope to see you at our next urban-ish walking adventure. We appreciate our regular walkers and always encourage new walkers to give our walk a shot. **MEETING LOCATION:** Tables/benches near the parking lot exit in front of the baseball/softball field **TOTAL DISTANCE**: We try to keep it to 5 miles but sometimes, we go over by a bit (mostly flat) **GUESTS**: Attendees are welcome to bring a guest (dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash) **LIABILITY WAIVER**: The organizer(s) is an uncompensated and untrained volunteer. By joining this event each member accepts full responsibility for knowing their limits, for all injuries, health issues, material losses, assessing all risks and for getting lost. Each member shall make their guests aware of these policies and releases the host(s) and the group from all liability.

Two centuries after the first European ship sailed to the Malabar Coast and made landfall at Calicut, the East India Company seeks to secure its future along the lucrative Silk Route, in the year 1766. An old evil now sails aboard a company ship, hoping to make a home in this new found land. But he will soon find that the ground along the Indus is an ancient one with daemons and legends far older than himself. Along These Savage Shores, where the days are scorched and the nights are full of teeth. This is going to be a change of pace for us, this will be the first graphic novel we have read and shared together for the book club. If you utilize Hoopla it should give you unlimited copies through the Los Angeles County Library or whatever library system you are part of just use your library card. Of course you can find it on Kindle or call you local comic book store and they should have a copy of it for purchase. If you have any troubles getting a hold of it please let me know.

**INFORMATIONAL POSTING ONLY-See Website at** **[www.wildernesstravelcourse.org](http://www.wildernesstravelcourse.org/)** Dear Group Members, particularly the recent swell of new, never-been-backpacking-before-but-want-to-start members: There is a great Sierra Club opportunity that is about to begin….an opportunity that only happens one time each year and it is one of the best outdoor learning experiences the Sierra Club has to offer. This is the Angeles Chapter Wilderness Travel Course (WTC). Some of you have taken the course and are now leaders and/or knowledgeable hikers. For those of you who have not, enrollment in WTC is something you should consider now. The Wilderness Travel Course helps build outdoor skills so hikers can be safe in the backcountry. The course runs for ten weeks and includes four field trips (two one day and two weekend outings). Students learn map and compass navigation skills for competent hiking off-trail, snow travel, rock scrambling techniques, first aid, nutrition and lots more. The course is followed by unforgettable experience backpacking trips, most of which take place in the High Sierra, Sequoia and Yosemite during the summer months. WTC moves you from being a day hiker to a more serious adventurer. You will acquire skills in trip planning, preparation, equipment and wilderness safety to take you into the backcountry in all seasons, beyond roads and trails with new friends that share your interest in the outdoors. **We will be camping at INDIAN COVE CAMPGROUND, GROUP SITE, on Halloween, Saturday, October 31, 2026.** **Although they allow up to 20 people we’re capping the group at 15 people and we are allowed up to 8 vehicles, max, at the group campsite.** **Please join the waitlist.** **There is a campsite fee of $5.50 PER PERSON, payable in advance.** **PLEASE PAY BY OCTOBER 1 to ensure group campsite fee is 100% covered.** **>>>>Fee is refundable only if the trip gets canceled.** **You’re completely free to go explore on your own, or just chillax at camp.** **>>>NATIONAL PARKS PASS IS REQUIRED FOR EACH VEHICLE ENTERING THE PARK.** **Purchase online or pay at the gate.** **October 31 is the last day of Daylight Savings.
