Who Has the Right to Rule? Democracy, Autocracy, and Political Legitimacy
Sat, Jul 11, 12:00 PMThe question of who has the right to rule is one of the central questions of political philosophy and history. Political power exists in every society, but power alone does not make rule legitimate. A government may control laws, police, courts, and institutions, yet still lack moral and political justification. Political legitimacy means that authority can be justified to the people who are subject to it. Historically, rule has been justified through religion, monarchy, tradition, wisdom, security, rights, and popular consent. In ancient thought, Plato connected legitimate rule with knowledge and virtue, while Aristotle argued that good rule must serve the common good rather than the private interests of rulers. Modern political thought changed the meaning of legitimate authority. Thinkers such as Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau shifted the focus from divine right and inherited power to security, rights, consent, and popular sovereignty. This historical development made democracy one of the most important modern answers to the question of legitimate rule. Democracy is based on the idea that political authority ultimately belongs to the people. It requires free elections, political equality, public participation, the rule of law, basic rights, and the possibility of peaceful change. Citizens are not merely subjects of power; they are participants in political life. Autocracy offers a different model. In autocratic systems, power is concentrated in one ruler, one party, or a small elite. Autocracies often justify themselves through stability, order, security, or efficiency. However, they face a serious legitimacy problem when people cannot freely criticize, oppose, or remove those who rule over them. Today, the question of political legitimacy remains urgent. Democracies face polarization, inequality, distrust, populism, and misinformation, while autocratic systems present themselves as strong alternatives. This discussion asks whether legitimate rule should be based on control and stability, or on consent, rights, accountability, and human dignity. Legitimate political rule requires more than force, tradition, or success. It must be justified to free and equal people. No person, party, monarch, or elite has a permanent natural right to rule. The right to rule belongs only to a political order that respects people as active members of a shared community. 📅 Event Details 🗓️ Date: Saturday, 11 Juli 2026 ⏰ Time: 14:00 📍 Location: Hardenbergstraße 10, 10623 Berlin 📱 WhatsApp: For prep materials and directions (Group Chat) [Group Chat Bio KI](https://chat.whatsapp.com/Ba8ZAaH2Yuk6FGmD3LLO7H)

Business Communication: Speak Clearly and Confidently in Meetings
Tue, Jul 21, 4:00 PM**This is a practical communication workshop in Berlin for international women in business working across corporate, consulting, startups, freelancing, entrepreneurship, or their own business, especially if they often have to make their point in rooms where confidence, clarity, and timing matter.** **You know what you want to say. But in the moment, you add too much context, soften the point, or wait too long to speak. Every time that happens, someone else gets the visibility, the credit, or the opportunity.** **That gap does not close by itself.** **The workshop helps you communicate with more clarity, confidence, and authority without sounding aggressive or over-rehearsed.** **This is a small group of max 20. You do not need perfect English.** #### **What you should expect** * Making your point clearly without over-explaining * Asking questions that sound confident, not apologetic * Disagreeing without backing down or burning the relationship * Giving a recommendation instead of hedging * Responding when someone interrupts, talks over you, or takes credit for what you said * Getting into the conversation when the room is moving fast and you cannot find your entry point #### **What you leave with** * A framework for clearer professional communication * Scripts for meetings, client calls, pitches, and stakeholder conversations * Responses for interruptions, dismissal, pushback, or being talked over * Practical language you can use immediately at work and in business * A follow-up email with the tools and scripts from the session **About the host** Sumita Kar is the founder of Take a Brava Leap (TABL), based in Berlin. She spent 13 years building her career across global teams, moving from associate level to Vice President across customer success, cross-cultural leadership, C-level client management, high-stakes escalations, negotiations, and commercial execution. In 2023 she was recognized as one of the Top 10 Best Indian Women Leaders from Germany by Women's Entrepreneur Magazine. She has navigated these rooms as an international woman where she was often the only one. She built this session so you don't have to figure it out the way she did.
