From Wild Food and Self-Reliance Discovery
4.9

To attend and for exact location, Register [HERE](https://www.schoolofself-reliance.com/event/traditional-gourd-workshop/) [NOTE: Besides each of you working on a gourd, we will also share some lessons in making triggers for traps, such as with the quail trap, and you will get to try some wild food at this class. You will learn how to clean and process a traditional gourd grown for utilitarian purposes. These are the hard shelled gourds that probably originated in Africa, and were common all across the American Southwest. Your job will be to clean, and learn how to cut and then clean the gourd. The seeds you can take home to grow. There are artists who make some equisite items from these gourds, and you might be one of them. However, we will focus on the fundamentals, and just a few hints about the artistic embellishments. If time, we will have a short plant walk and possibly prepare something you can eat in your gourd. We will supply all the tools needed, but if you have your own knife, hack saw, files, etc., please bring them. Bring water to drink and a snack if required.

**I’m so excited to announce this legendary event happening at the Hollywood Bowl this year. With a combined eight Grammy Awards and 28 nominations, Gladys Knight and Smokey Robinson stand as undeniable legends of American soul music.** **Recognized by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest singers of all time, Gladys Knight first rose to fame in 1961 with the Motown group Gladys Knight & the Pips. Over the next six decades, she delivered numerous number-one hits across pop, gospel, and R&B. While she is best known for timeless classics like I Heard It Through the Grapevine and Midnight Train to Georgia, Knight’s remarkable career includes more than 38 albums along with appearances in film and television. In 2024, she added a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award to her already impressive collection of seven Grammys.** **Smokey Robinson has written and performed some of the most unforgettable songs of the 20th century, including You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me and I Second That Emotion. As the frontman of The Miracles and a key songwriter for Motown Records, he also wrote and produced numerous hits for legendary artists such as The Temptations and Marvin Gaye. With a career spanning more than half a century, Robinson’s exceptional talent as both a performer and songwriter earned him induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—and he continues to inspire audiences around the world.** **Tickets are priced at $72.50. Our group was given preference to purchase Saturday night seats not being offered to any other group. You don’t want to miss this memorable event!** **Listen, I’ve placed a limited time HOLD on 30 seats which won’t last. You are welcome to invite a friend or two to attend. Time is of the essence! Walk along Millionaire's Row & Back to the Future House in Pasadena

Walk along Millionaire's Row & Back to the Future House in Pasadena

Walk along Millionaire's Row in Pasadena, Wrigley Mansion, Suicide Bridge, Worldwide Church of God, Back to the Future House, etc. Walk is under 6 miles RT. Bring water and sneakers. During the first two decades of the 20th Century Pasadena became the home of millionaires (who probably would be billionaires in today’s dollars). Chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr., David B. Gamble, son of James Gamble, founder of Proctor and Gamble, and Adolphus Busch of Budweiser fame, were some of the wealthiest families in the country. Many of these upper-class residents lived on Orange Grove Blvd. which, due to this extreme affluence, was nicknamed ā€˜Millionaire’s Row’. As ā€˜Millionaire’s Row’ grew, with dozens of opulent mansions of eight or ten bedrooms lining the street, the need for hired help increased dramatically. Mary Gamble and Ada Wrigley were not going to wash dishes and clothes, nor prepare meals for their families. Those laborious tasks were given to domestic workers who lived in the residences of the rich in modest servants’ quarters. And they were paid low wages for the difficult and arduous work required to maintain these enormous estates. Wrigley House (Tournament of Rose Parade House) [https://tournamentofroses.com/house-tours/](https://tournamentofroses.com/house-tours/) Suicide Bridge 87 have committed suicide from this bridge: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorado_Street_Bridge_](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorado_Street_Bridge_)(Pasadena,_California) Back to the Future House (Gamble House) [https://movie-locations.com/movies/b/Back-To-The-Future.php](https://movie-locations.com/movies/b/Back-To-The-Future.php) Worldwide Church of God We will walk to see the scenic grounds of the church and the mansions there. Parking: Street parking. No restrictions on parking as long as you park near mansion. If you park further away, it is 2 hours parking. After walk, people can go to Old Town Pasadena to meet at 21 Choices --frozen yogurt 44 N Fair Oaks Ave, Pasadena, CA 91103
