Columbus Disagree Better: The Art of Conversation

We often find ourselves surrounded by people who think just like we do, but there is something uniquely rewarding about sitting down with someone who sees the world differently. This gathering is a space for us to practice the art of civil discourse. The goal is not to debate or win an argument, but to genuinely understand the perspectives of others while maintaining respect and curiosity. If you have been looking for a way to talk about challenging topics without the usual friction, this is the place for you. We will spend the session exploring tools for active listening and asking open-ended questions that bridge gaps rather than widen them. Whether you are someone who enjoys a good philosophical debate or you are just looking to get better at talking with friends and family who hold opposing views, you will find a welcoming atmosphere here. It is a casual, low-pressure environment meant for anyone interested in making our community a little more thoughtful. If you are interested in joining us for an evening of meaningful connection, please let us know by clicking the RSVP button. We are looking forward to seeing who shows up and hearing the different viewpoints you bring to the table.

What Are You Curious About?

"Is it practical?" That question has probably run more of your decisions over the last thirty years than you'd guess. It's a good question. It's just not the only one. This month we're making the case for taking your own curiosity seriously, even when it doesn't come with a plan attached. You don't need to have read anything. You just need to show up willing to notice what you've been putting off for "someday." In this session, you'll name one thing you're genuinely curious about, without qualifying it or explaining why it matters. Then you'll leave with one small, low stakes way to pay attention to it this week. Not a project. Not a commitment. Just a little bit of following. Whether this is your first time with us or you've been with us since the beginning, you're exactly on time. There's nothing to catch up on.

Columbus Sketching the Streets Weekly Social

We are meeting up this week for our regular sketching session to capture a bit of Columbus on paper. Whether you are a seasoned artist or someone who just likes to doodle in a notebook, this is a low-pressure space to get outside, observe our surroundings, and spend some time drawing alongside others. We do not have a formal instructor, so feel free to bring whatever supplies you are comfortable with and work at your own pace. The goal is simply to get out of the house and connect with people in the neighborhood who share an interest in sketching. We will spend about an hour or so working on our drawings, followed by a chance to share what we have worked on if you feel like it, or just chat and grab a drink or a snack afterward. It is a casual group, and everyone is welcome to join regardless of their skill level. If you are planning to come by, please take a moment to click the RSVP button so I know how many people to look for when I arrive. I look forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new ones this week.

Oscar Watch: WILD HORSE NINE at the Drexel Theatre!

Join us as we get together to see a dark-comedy-dramatic-thriller and that rare combination of films that’s a heavy Oscar contender and wildly entertaining, WILD HORSE NINE! The film is written/directed by Martin McDonagh and follows a pair of CIA agents as they face a trust-testing mission from Santiago to Easter Island during 1973 in Chile. Here’s a description, trailer and plan for this event: DESCRIPTION: Shortly before the 1973 Chilean coup d'etat, two CIA officers are sent from Santiago to Easter Island. Among the island's iconic statues, the longtime partners wrestle with their dark pasts and present conspiracies, while one’s newfound bond with a pair of rebellious students threatens to send everyone's trip to this remote paradise sideways. The film is written/directed by Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, The Banshees of Inisherin) and stars John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, Steve Buscemi, Tom Waits and Parker Posey. TRAILER: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Haw_sznA5aQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Haw_sznA5aQ) BUZZ & ACCLAIM: Wild Horse Nine premiered to a rapturous response at this year’s Venice International Film Festival where John Malkovich won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor! It is earning a stellar 94% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, where critics call it “intelligent, superb filmmaking” with an “expert blend of poignant drama and blistering dark comedy” and featuring some of the best performances ever “by Malkovich, Rockwell and Buscemi.” This is one of those rare movies that's actually fun and entertaining, smart and moving, and poised to be a major player at next year's Oscars! DINNER PLAN: For dinner, we’ll switch it up this time and go with dinner at the Rusty Bucket BEFORE the show! Meet at 5:15pm and we’ll have a section reserved for the group! MOVIE PLAN: Immediately following dinner, it’s on to the show! We’ll plan for a 7pm-ish showing and will meet in the lobby area about 20 minutes before showtime! Advance ticket purchase not required for this theater. When you purchase yours, be sure to mention you’re with the Movie Group for admission and concession discounts. Also, recommend parking in the lot near Brassica and your car will be close to the restaurant and the theater! Exact showtime and complete details will be confirmed and announced as the date gets closer. Can't wait, Dan
