We're having a PARTY! 🎈😊 Where I plan to announce an exciting new (and free) thing from the 'house of TEiP' 💭 Sign up to our newsletter to [hear about upcoming events first](https://experimentsingroupwisdom.substack.com/) 💌 Instagram [scrapbook and thought provoking stuff](https://www.instagram.com/thoughtexperimentsinpubs) ❤️ **Last year** **it rained... and we still had an amazing time** with a great turn out and some creative collective problem solving! So things can only get better if it happens to be a sunny day (shh, don't jinx it). As usual, we will discuss three **thought experiments** (tiny stories designed to invite different conversations, ideas, and connections). The theme is still to be decided... **let me know your suggestions** in the comments or on [@thoughtexperimentsinpubs](https://www.instagram.com/thoughtexperimentsinpubs) 😊 The **[EXACT LOCATION](https://what3words.com/life.loves.precautions)** \- \(see directions below\) **The idea:** A chance to meet and get straight into meaningful conversations - both [deep and light](https://experimentsingroupwisdom.substack.com/p/light-and-dark-levity-and-depth) are welcome! **How we'll do it** (timings approximate)**:** * 3:00pm - Meet in the park ([exact location](https://what3words.com/life.loves.precautions)) * Organise ourselves into small groups (3-6ish) * Have a look at the thought experiments (posted in the comments on the day of the event). * 3:15pm - First rotation begins - Talk about the first thought experiment. Feel free to let your conversations flow organically and wander off topic. If you'd like to bring things back, you have several 'questions to consider' that you can suggest to the group. * 3:40pm - Optional shuffle: swap groups, move on to the second thought experiment. * 4:10pm - Optional shuffle: swap groups, move on to the third thought experiment. * 4:40pm - Votes! (optional, unscientific votes to get a sense of the group's opinions) 5:00 - Organised meetup ‘ends’. Party continues! **Notes on the general atmosphere:** * The vibe is to let conversation flow rather than stick strictly to one topic. * While we'd like to talk about 'meaningful things', we also see the value in lighter topics, so don't worry about not being 'deep' enough! * Feel free to suggest ideas for future Thought Experiments in Pubs meetup groups, both in terms of structure and topics to discuss. **Who should come:** Everyone! We believe that the more perspectives, the richer the conversation. This group is not about being experts in Philosophy, it is about *doing* philosophy. That is, bringing our various life experiences and lenses on the world to group discussions about the human experience, the nature of reality... etc. etc.... **What to bring**: * Something to sit on - picnic rug, plastic bag, whatever you prefer * Drinks/snacks for yourself (you can share if you want to, but there's no pressure) * Layers, sunglasses, umbrella... it's London **Where we'll meet:** * Very precise location: https://what3words.com/life.loves.precautions * General location/directions: The nearest entrances to the park are Gloucester Gate or Chester Road. The meeting point is near the Broadwalk, on the Eastern edge of the playing fields. **I have chosen this spot because there is a cafe (with toilets) close by, there are trees for shade/shelter, and it worked really well last year**. * Our banners will be hanging in the trees, so we should be easy to spot! (see the attached photos for what to look out for.) HANGING OUT AT THE SOUTH BANK

HANGING OUT AT THE SOUTH BANK

Fri, Jul 17, 6:00 PM
From EXPERIMENTS IN GROUP WISDOM
4.9

Inspired by Sheila Liming's 2023 book, Hanging Out, this event is about "*daring to do nothing much, and even more than that, about daring to do it in the company of others*." If you're curious, you can read more about my rationale for the event [here](https://experimentsingroupwisdom.substack.com/p/hanging-out), and how our pilot event went [here](https://experimentsingroupwisdom.substack.com/p/it-worked). This will be the 7th month in a row of 'HANGING OUT AT THE SOUTHBANK' - it's going well! **This event will take place in the foyer of The Southbank Centre.** You can find us by looking out for: * Me - I will be wearing a black T-shirt with HANGING OUT written on the back * Our table - we usually gather at the tall tables in the Festival Bar & Kitchen on Level 2. Our table will have a sign on it 'HANGING OUT' (see attached photos). * If I get away with it, it will also have a red flag draped over the table with 'THE SUNRISE CLUB' emblazoned on it (though this clearly isn't THE SUNRISE CLUB! If you want to find out about that, you can do so [here](https://www.meetup.com/the-sunrise-club/).) There are plenty of places to buy refreshments, but you can also bring your own if you prefer. If you feel like using this event as a carrot for some creative work, please join us an hour earlier for [WRITE CLUB](https://www.meetup.com/experimentsin/events/315134963) \- an hour of silent writing/reading in the same location\. And if you'd like to finish the evening with a dance, there is a free social salsa meetup just outside The Southbank Centre just afterwards. More info [here](https://www.instagram.com/salserosfriends/). [WHATSAPP GROUP](https://chat.whatsapp.com/FgGCrGc8TNzF8q7lvwozbR) [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/experimentsingroupwisdom) [SUBSTACK](https://experimentsingroupwisdom.substack.com/) Looking forward to meeting and hanging out with you :-) Bonny

WRITE CLUB: one hour of silent writing (or reading) in the company of others

From EXPERIMENTS IN GROUP WISDOM

The first rule of WRITE CLUB is that you do not talk ***during*** WRITE CLUB. This very simple meetup is based on the premise that public and peer accountability enables more productive writing than sitting at home and getting distracted by the fridge. We will write/read for an hour in silence. (I will be writing thought experiments for my other meetup group: [THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS](https://www.meetup.com/thought-experiments-in-pubs)) If you'd like to hang out afterwards, or if you prefer just to hang out, I have another event immediately afterwards in the same place :-) You can find that here: [HANGING OUT AT THE SOUTHBANK](https://www.meetup.com/experimentsin/events/315134947) And if you'd like to finish the evening with a dance, there is a free social salsa meetup just outside The Southbank Centre just afterwards. More info [here](https://www.instagram.com/salserosfriends/). **This event will take place in the foyer of The Southbank Centre.** You can find us by looking out for: * A tote bag with WRITE CLUB sewn onto it * My T-Shirt, which will have HANGING OUT embroidered on the back of it * If I get away with it: a big red flag with THE SUNRISE CLUB emblazoned on it (though this clearly isn't THE SUNRISE CLUB! If you want to find out about that, you can do so [here](https://www.meetup.com/the-sunrise-club/).) * Other writers - who may be spread out across the centre. They will have white pieces of paper with the WRITE CLUB stamp at the top of the page. There are plenty of places to buy refreshments, but you can also bring your own if you prefer. TEiP SPECIAL SERIES: LIVING WITH TECH • S1E3: THE WAY WE PARTICIPATE

Tue, Jul 21, 6:00 PM
From THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS
4.8

The final episode in our special series designed to open different conversations about AI, tech, and their impact on our lives. (More about our rationale [here](https://open.substack.com/pub/experimentsingroupwisdom/p/bored-of-having-the-same-conversation?r=445zi1&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true) 😊) We’ll use the THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS (TEiP) method of getting into great conversations: small group discussions, tiny imaginary stories, lots of questions, and many opportunities to shuffle groups (more detail below). **The thought experiments for these events are written by special guest writer and TEiP regular, Francesca.** She’s in the middle of a fellowship at Newspeak House (London College of Political Technology) and has her finger on the pulse of many issues related to technology and its impact on our lives. (You can find her writing [here](https://themagpiebrain.substack.com/)). As Francesca alludes to in one of her thought experiments: **discussing concepts and ideas with other people (rather than asking ChatGPT) is like going to the gym for your mind.** But as anyone who has been to TEiP will know, TEiP’s lighthearted and playful atmosphere means that it’s more like a fun dance workout than crossfit or weightlifting. **How we'll do it** (timings approximate): * 7:00pm - Arrive at Newspeak House. Nearest station Shoreditch High Street. * Organise ourselves into small groups (3-4). * Have a look at the thought experiments (announced on the day of the event) * 7:15 - Introduction to the event * 7:20 - First rotation begins - Talk about the first thought experiment, but feel free to veer off topic and pursue new avenues of conversation. * 7:45 - Optional reshuffle: swap groups, move on to the second thought experiment. * 8:15 - Optional reshuffle: swap groups, move on to the third thought experiment. * 8:45pm - Wrap up - votes to discern general views of the room; info about upcoming events; feedback/requests for future meetups. * 9:00 Meetup ‘ends’. But feel free to carry on conversations. We have the room until 10 :-) **Notes on the general atmosphere:** * The vibe is to let conversation flow rather than stick strictly to one topic. **Where we'll meet:** This group will be at NEWSPEAK HOUSE. The nearest Overground Station is Shoreditch High Street. Nearby Tube stations: Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, Old Street, and Liverpool Street. You can access the venue step-free on the ground floor. Bathrooms are available at the venue. **Please note: There is no bar at the venue, but you are very welcome to bring your own drinks.** **Who should come:** Everyone! We believe that the more perspectives, the richer the conversation. This group is not about being experts in Philosophy, it is about doing philosophy. That is, bringing our various life experiences and lenses on the world to group discussions about the human experience, the nature of reality... etc.... You’re also very welcome to bring snacks or a small dessert to share, but this is completely optional! **What to bring:** * A picnic blanket if you have one * Your own food and drink * Optional snacks or dessert to share * A book if you fancy reading quietly for a bit 📚 **Facilities nearby:** * Toilets are a few minutes’ walk away * There’s a café nearby if you want to grab drinks, coffee, snacks, or food * We’ll be near the Serpentine, so there’s a lovely view and space to relax **Where we’ll meet:** We’ll meet by the Boathouse next to the Serpentine in Hyde Park. If we move slightly to find a good picnic spot, I’ll share the exact location in the group. **Time:** 2:30pm–5:30pm I’ll be there from around 2:00pm, so if you’re new, coming alone, or feeling a little nervous, feel free to come early and settle in with me before everyone arrives. Come as you are girls. This is a relaxed, welcoming afternoon for women who are all here for the same reason: to build real friendships and enjoy life’s little moments together. 💛 Can’t wait to meet you! x
