The Life You Built. What's Next? an intimate dinner for people in reinvention

The Life You Built. What's Next? an intimate dinner for people in reinvention

Mon, Aug 31, 8:30 AM
From At a Crossroads? Let's Talk About It
4.7

🎟️ This is a ticketed event. Tickets are $110 (includes a welcome drink & dinner) and are purchased on Humanitix **an RSVP on Meetup does not reserve your seat.** Book your spot here → [https://events.humanitix.com/the-life-you-built-what-s-next-an-intimate-dinner-for-people-in-reinvention](https://events.humanitix.com/the-life-you-built-what-s-next-an-intimate-dinner-for-people-in-reinvention) We're seeing a shift: in culture, in trust, in work, even in how we relate to time. This is an intimate gathering for a small group of people who feel a little disconnected from their current chapter. Maybe it's work. Maybe it's the sheer volume of change these last couple of years. Perhaps it's a quieter sense of lost purpose, or lost continuity and the feeling of starting to wonder what's next. This is an evening to share where we are: how we got here. Talk about that we may not know where to go next. A friendly conversation about that space in the middle. You feel like something's shifting. A sense that what you built isn't quite what fits anymore, and you're starting to wonder what's next. This is a dinner for that feeling, that moment in life. Ten to fifteen people around one table, a warm room, and an honest conversation about the in-between: where you've been, what's changed, and what might be calling now. No stage, no expert, no fixing. Just real talk between people quietly navigating the same thing. **What we'll explore:** * What still feels true about the life you've built, and what's started to feel inherited or not something you want to keep doing. * What you might design differently, starting from who you are now **Who this is for:** * Professionals who feel that what they've built no longer quite fits * People sensing a quiet identity shift, curious about what's next * Anyone in the "I did all the things I was supposed to do, but something doesn't feel right" middle **What to expect:** * An intimate dinner: 10 to 15 people around one table * A welcome drink on arrival, dinner, and a guided, honest conversation * Safe, confidential, judgment-free: share what you want, or just listen * A chance to find connection with like-minded people and be part of a community of people wanting to reinvent themselves **What this is NOT:** * Therapy, crisis support, or coaching * A networking event * A pre-set framework, or a quick fix * A sales pitch 👉 Reminder: RSVP-ing on Meetup doesn't hold a seat. This is a ticketed dinner, secure your place ($110, includes welcome drink & dinner) on Humanitix: [https://events.humanitix.com/the-life-you-built-what-s-next-an-intimate-dinner-for-people-in-reinvention](https://events.humanitix.com/the-life-you-built-what-s-next-an-intimate-dinner-for-people-in-reinvention)

Earning Influence: Why Strong Design work doesn't move the room

Earning Influence: Why Strong Design work doesn't move the room

Tue, Aug 18, 8:00 AM
From Sydney Creative Customer Experience (CCX)
4.7

Welcome Back CCX Sydney to our events for 2026 from myself, Lydia, Sylvia and James and we are planning a bumper selection of speakers for this year. Our next event on August 18th will feature two unique presentations from Designers Dan Whelan and Ariel Blackman both from Commonwealth Bank. We will be hosting by the Team at Hipages special thanks to Carlos Guedes and Natalia Furtado. Our first Talk from CBA Product Design leader, Dan Whelan: **Earning Influence: Why Strong Design Work Doesn't Move the Room** **About Dan's Talk** You're doing great work. Decisions move on without you anyway. Here's why — and what has to be true before that changes. It's easy to assume that if the work is good enough, it earns its own influence. It doesn't. Design gets described, by default, in process terms — what was explored, tested, shipped — while the room is listening for risk, revenue and consequence, meaning how we describe the work to each other isn't the value our stakeholders want to see. Good work can fail to move a decision, because how it's described isn't connected to the decision's value. This talk covers the two things that usually get in the way of making your work land. First, the translation problem: why the same piece of work, described two different ways, gets two completely different receptions from your non-designer stakeholders. Second, the gap underneath: work that fails to land because it was never linked to key behaviour to start with, it was built around untraceable best practice. This talk covers both, so the next time you do good work, it doesn't get ignored. **About Dan** Dan Whelan is a design leader with 20 years across companies including Intuit and CommBank, and some of Australia's most complex financial products. She writes and speaks on decision quality and behavioural design, helping designers close the gap between doing strong work and having it influence the room. Our second speaker also from CBA will Ariel Blackman, User Experience Designer on Neurodivergent Strategies **About Ariels talk** Neurospicy Awareness, Acceptance & Strategies An honest look at life as a neurodivergent designer. Through personal stories and practical strategies, Ariel shares what she's learned about managing overwhelm, working with her brain instead of against it, and embracing self-acceptance along the way. Expect a mix of lived experience, useful tools, and a healthy dose of neurospicy chaos **About Ariel:** Ariel Blackman is a Product Designer with over 10 years of experience creating digital products and experiences. Alongside her design career, she's spent years learning how to navigate life as a neurodivergent person, developing practical tools and strategies to better understand herself, manage overwhelm, and work with her brain rather than against it. Passionate about sharing lived experiences with honesty, humour, and vulnerability, Ariel enjoys creating spaces where people feel seen, understood, and accepted. She believes that while everyone's experience is different, there is immense value in sharing the strategies and lessons we've learned along the way. Please note that we will be back at Hipages for our August Event so please familiarise yourself with The location and Start Time. We hope to See you in August and are really looking forward to Hearing from both Dan and Ariel.

Margaret Olley: Australian Intimiste 2026

Margaret Olley: Australian Intimiste 2026

Sat, Aug 15, 1:30 AM
From AAA Art Lovers Australia

**Margaret Olley: Australian Intimiste 2026** So, Margaret Olley. *(I simply lost my words.)* Let's let Margaret's art whisper to us. As one of Australia's most beloved painters and a National Art School alum, Olley's legacy comes alive in this exhibition — bringing together over sixty of her works alongside pieces by her NAS friends, teachers and peers. It has to be shared with our art lovers. Let's experience Margaret Olley: Australian Intimiste at the National Art School Gallery, and explore the historic Darlinghurst Gaol setting that houses it. **A huge thanks to our curator Katrina, who has generously offered to guide us on a private art tour.** **A little touch of history:** The word *Intimism* comes from the French ***Intimisme***, meaning "the art of intimacy." It celebrates the beauty of home--to paintings and drawings of quiet domestic scenes---familiar spaces, and everyday life, proving that the most profound stories are often found in the simplest moments. Intimism reminds us that art doesn't always shout—it often whispers. **A few links for those interested in Intimism:** * [https://www.tate.org.uk/art/art-terms/i/intimism](https://www.tate.org.uk/art/art-terms/i/intimism) * [https://miguelcamarena.com/blogs/news/intimism-art-movement-overview-history-and-key-works?srsltid=AfmBOopqtvqfZAn3iKiQSPGMQbCDf7qJ07q8By-9BVfRv3AsnFRj0Bpu](https://miguelcamarena.com/blogs/news/intimism-art-movement-overview-history-and-key-works?srsltid=AfmBOopqtvqfZAn3iKiQSPGMQbCDf7qJ07q8By-9BVfRv3AsnFRj0Bpu) **Itinerary:** **11:30 am –Crew Coffee & Conversation** **Venue: Cafe NAS** We'll gather, introduce ourselves and meet fellow members before beginning our gallery experience.Enjoy a relaxed coffee and casual conversation before exploring the Gallery. **12:15 pm – Margaret Olley: Australian Intimiste (Free Admission)** Discover Margaret Olley's six-decade career through the lens of intimisme — her interiors, floral arrangements, antiques and domestic objects — alongside works by Jean Bellette, Russell Drysdale, Tony Tuckson and other NAS contemporaries, plus Sir William Dobell's 1948 Archibald-winning portrait of Olley. Take your time exploring the exhibition, discussing favourite artworks and sharing different perspectives with fellow members. No ticket required — admission is free. **1:15 pm – Foodies & Arties Delight** **Venue:** **The Rusty Rabbit** We'll gather over lunch to share our favourite discoveries from the morning, exchange ideas, and enjoy good food and even better conversations. **2:15 pm – Continue Exploring** After lunch, we are free to enjoy the Gallery at their own pace. You may wish to: * Revisit the exhibition and favourite artworks * Explore the historic NAS Gallery building (former A-Wing cell block of Darlinghurst Gaol) * Browse the accompanying exhibition publication * Continue conversations with fellow members There is no rush, we love unhurried wandering. **3:30 pm – Event Concludes** **What to Bring** * A bottle of water * Comfortable walking shoes * A camera or phone (where photography is permitted) * Your curiosity and love of art **Dress Code:** Feeling Artistic **Please Note** * **AAA Art Lovers Australia event is FREE to join.** * Admission to Margaret Olley: Australian Intimiste is free — no ticket required. * Participants are responsible for their own coffee, lunch and any personal purchases. * Please arrive at least 10 minutes early to allow time for introductions. * If your plans change, please update your RSVP as soon as possible. * Everyone is welcome — no art background is required, only curiosity, respect and a willingness to enjoy art together. **Terms & Conditions** By attending this event, you acknowledge and agree that: * Participation is voluntary and at your own risk. * Members are responsible for their own transport, meals and personal expenses. * The organiser accepts no responsibility for any loss, damage or injury during the event. * Please respect Gallery staff, artworks, venue rules and fellow visitors. * Photography is permitted only where authorised by the Gallery. * The itinerary may be adjusted if required due to operational or unforeseen circumstances. * By participating in this event, you accept these Terms & Conditions.
