SDNNYC Goes to the Met: A Service Safari Experience
Sat, Jul 18, 3:00 PM**Saturday, July 18th, 11:00AM-3:00 PM EDT** **SDN Goes to the Met: A Service Safari Experience** **Event Description** One of the great tools that Service Designers have in their toolset is the service safari, an exercise where a project team goes out into the wild and acts as customers to experience a product, service, or environment firsthand. The exercise helps you build deep empathy, uncover real-world pain points, and reveal gaps in your customer journey that traditional surveys or interviews might miss. On Saturday, July 18th we invite you to join us as we take a service safari to one of the crown jewels of New York City: The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Attendees will break into groups and get an opportunity to practice this research technique firsthand within the museum itself. At the end of the day we will share our findings and gather for food and drink. **About Our Guide** **Peter March** Peter is a UX and experience design leader with 15+ years shaping products for Fortune 500 brands. His design practice spans across digital and real world touchpoints, bringing UX rigor to environments like events, exhibits, and retail. He formally served as a local leader of the Interaction Design Association, and is part of the TAILORU Stitch Collective, where he helps professionals integrate AI into human centered workflows. **Agenda** * 11am - 11:30 am Introductions and activity outline * 11:30 am - 1:00 pm Field research: Exploring in teams * 1:00 - 2:15 pm Lunch; team synthesis & debrief * 2:15 - 3pm Findings share back with the full group **Address** The Metropolitan Museum of Art 1000 Fifth Avenue New York, NY 10028 **After-Party**: Dylan Murphy's 1453 3rd Ave, New York, NY 10028 First drink is on SDNNYC! **Financial Transparency & Scholarships** As a non-profit, we do our best to strike a balance between making our events available to all and ensuring we keep the lights on. For this event, we are charging $10. * If this amount is prohibitive for you to attend this event, please message [Barry](https://www.meetup.com/sdnnyc/members/267573171/) on Meetup and we’ll provide you a scholarship to this event. You can also email us at sdn.newyorkchapter@gmail.com as we may miss messages on this platform. * If you’d like to provide scholarships, please message [Barry](https://www.meetup.com/sdnnyc/members/267573171/) on Meetup and he will follow up with you. Ayse Polat: Building Beyond Completion-Leverage Design & Construction Data
Thu, Jul 16, 10:00 PM**Building Beyond Completion: Leveraging Design and Construction Data for Smart Buildings, Digital Twins, and AI Integration** Sponsored by Graitec, Ayse Polat will be presenting: Project data generated during design and construction is often underutilized once a building is occupied, despite its potential to support long-term operational performance. This session explores how information created throughout project delivery can become a valuable resource for facility management, smart building systems, digital twins, and emerging artificial intelligence applications. Participants will examine how smart building technologies use connected data to enhance building operations, improve occupant experiences, and support more efficient decision-making. The presentation will also demonstrate how digital twins create a continuous link between design intent, construction outcomes, and operational performance by maintaining a dynamic digital representation of the built asset. Finally, attendees will explore how AI can leverage historical and real-time building data to identify trends, predict maintenance needs, and optimize performance across the asset lifecycle. The session provides practical insights into transforming project information into long-term operational value. **Learning objectives:** · Understand the value of design and construction data after project completion. · Learn how smart building systems improve building operations and user experience. · Explore how digital twins connect design, construction, and operations. · Identify how AI can support better building decisions and lifecycle performance. **Microsoft Teams meeting** **Join:** [https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/25524332788594?p=sJ8FZgzCVZ2Rf2Izbi](https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/25524332788594?p=sJ8FZgzCVZ2Rf2Izbi "Meeting join") Meeting ID: 255 243 327 885 94 Passcode: DL3o8hv9 *** [Need help?](https://aka.ms/JoinTeamsMeeting?omkt=en-US) \| [System reference](https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19%3ameeting_Mzg3MzQzYTQtMTYxMy00YjIyLTg4YTUtODIzYTE1MjFhZWY3%40thread.v2/0?context=%7b%22Tid%22%3a%220fc6889f-bf23-4c66-a071-f35150aabdfa%22%2c%22Oid%22%3a%225f7aa5b0-d1e9-40e0-8c9d-74b0d20c89d6%22%7d) **Dial in by phone** [+1 531-205-2209,,136886768#](tel:+15312052209,,136886768) United States, Omaha [Find a local number](https://dialin.teams.cloud.microsoft/e1607c7c-f4af-4edc-9d47-10ce22c20bfb?id=136886768) Phone conference ID: 136 886 768# For organizers: [Meeting options](https://teams.microsoft.com/meetingOptions/?organizerId=5f7aa5b0-d1e9-40e0-8c9d-74b0d20c89d6&tenantId=0fc6889f-bf23-4c66-a071-f35150aabdfa&threadId=19_meeting_Mzg3MzQzYTQtMTYxMy00YjIyLTg4YTUtODIzYTE1MjFhZWY3@thread.v2&messageId=0&language=en-US) \| [Reset dial-in PIN](https://dialin.teams.cloud.microsoft/usp/pstnconferencing)
