About us

Shadowdark is a new TTRPG which blends Old School Renaisance (OSR) style rules with the modern mechanics of D&D 5e. Characters are heroes rather than superheroes and there is a high level of danger. I would like to run a West Marches style campaign set in a home brewed fantasy noir world. We will meet at the Wheaton Community Recreation Center.
There is an active Call of Cthulhu campaign lurking within the group, and others welcome. Contact the group leader.

The Old Ones ruled the earth aeons before the rise of humanity. Traces of their cyclopean cities can still be found on remote islands, buried amid the shifting desert sands, and in the frozen wastes of the polar extremes. Originally they came to this world from the stars. They sleep now, some deep within the earth or beneath the sea. When the stars are right they shall again walk the earth.

The Call of Cthulhu Roleplaying game is a horror-themed RPG set in the late 1920s using elements from the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Interested in learning how to play or are already familiar with the system and want to dive into a new adventure? Join us for a bi-weekly one-shot!

Players of any experience level are welcome to join! I will go over how to play this system at the start of the adventure.

What to bring:
- Standard RPG dice set will work for Call of Cthulhu
- Pen and paper for note-taking

This session will provide an introduction to Shadowdark RPG, a rules-light role-playing game that evokes old-school Dungeons & Dragons game play with the use of modern (5e) mechanics. Easy to learn and a lot of fun!

We will learn through play, using the iconic SD beginner adventure The Lost Citadel of the Scarlet Minotaur. The players, through their characters, will explore the ruins of a long-ago warrior cult, balancing risk and reward as they seek treasure while avoiding threats from traps and monsters -- above all, the feared Scarlet Minotaur.

Players should bring a pencil and paper. The standard array of D&D polyhedral dice (d4/d6/d8/d10/d12/d20) are also recommended.
