What we’re about
Shadowdark is a new TTRPG which blends Old School Renaisance (OSR) style rules with the modern mechanics of D&D 5e. Characters are heroes rather than superheroes and there is a high level of danger. I would like to run a West Marches style campaign set in a home brewed fantasy noir world. We will meet at the Wheaton Community Recreation Center.
There is an active Call of Cthulhu campaign lurking within the group, and others welcome. Contact the group leader.

Shadowdark Campaign: Gunderholfen and Other Adventures
Wheaton Recreation Center, 11701 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD, USA biweekly open-table West Marches Shadowdark campaign based mainly on a collection of OSR adventures written by G. Hawkins.
What You'll Need:
- (Recommended): A laptop, tablet or phone (I will bring a power strip for charging). We will be using a virtual table-top (Owlbear Rodeo), which does not require installation or an account. Alternatively, players can forego the VTT and play using a "Theatre-of-the-Mind" approach.
- (Optional) The Shadowdark RPG Core Rulebook or a downloaded copy of the free Player Quickstart Guide.
- Character design: Players will roll character stats in person, either with physical dice or using the character-creation-rolls channel in my Discord server. Characters start at level 1. Players can create a stable of up to three characters to choose for use in sessions. If a character dies, a new character can be created (at level 1) as above. I recommend that created characters be entered into the online Shadowdark character creation resource [Shadowdarklings.net](https://shadowdarklings.net/create) for long-term storage and updating between sessions.
- You can bring physical dice or use the VTT built-in dice roller.

Mothership One-Shot - The Haunting of Ypsilon 14
Wheaton Recreation Center, 11701 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD, USYou cower inside a locker, hands shaking as you try to silently load a revolver. Outside you can hear heavy clicks as the alien that just tore apart the rest of your crew stalks the hallways, looking for survivors. The sweat on your brow stings your eyes and you try to wipe it away, but as you do you drop a bullet. It pings off the locker's metallic floor and the clicking outside speeds up, closer and closer it comes towards your hiding spot until you can smell the blood on it's claws. You manage to get a shot off as it tears the door open, but the bullet bounces uselessly off the creature's chitinous carapace. It lunges towards you, razor sharp teeth closing on your neck. Everything goes black as you realize your ship is now a trap for the next clueless group of scavengers.
Mothership is a science fiction horror rpg with a focus on roleplaying and narratives shaped by player choices. Players will take on the role of a crew scavenging derelict ships, investigating remote outposts, encountering strange new alien threats, and trying to survive the inhospitable environment of outer space.
No experience is necessary to join these sessions. I'll go over some of the core mechanics before the game, the rest is simple enough to learn as you go.
Players will need:
- Dice: You'll need a D10, D% (or a second D10), and a D20
- Pen and paper for notetaking
- A Mothership 1st Edition character (pre-made characters will be available, or players can create their own)
Players wanting to read the rules before coming can download a free pdf here.
Players who want to build their own characters can find a fillable pdf with instructions here. Make sure you select BASIC CHARACTER PROFILE if you want to see the instructions.
