What we’re about
If you live in the Waynesboro, VA area or nearby and would enjoy playing modern board games with other women, join us! The group hosts are women in their 50's, but any woman over 21 may join the group.
MEETINGS
We'll host a regular game night on Sundays from 5-7 at Panera in Waynesboro, but we may also post spontaneous game gatherings at other times and locations.
For the regular game nights, we'll use the first half hour for chatting and eating and then start game play at 5:30.
If you would like to host your own game gatherings for group members, we can add you as an Event Organizer. Message Amy for details!
"MODERN" GAMES?
"Modern" refers to board and card games created in the past 15-20 years, inspired by the popularity of early euro-style games like Catan and Ticket to Ride. Players use strategy as well as a bit of luck to earn victory points, through mechanisms like deck building, tile or worker placement, area exploration, and so on. Modern games might feature a light-hearted quest to save kittens from curses or help dragons have tea parties, a mid-weight hunt for villagers to rescue from classic movie monsters, or a more involved campaign to build the most diverse town or meadow or to fight off the monsters under a little girl's bed. In other words, there's a whole world of fun games out there beyond the classics like Scrabble, Yahtzee, and Monopoly, and those are the kind of games we'll bring to this group.
This video offers a pretty good overview of how modern games differ from the classics.
OUR GAME PREFERENCES
Amy is drawn to games with cute themes, esp. if they're animal-related, and she enjoys a light to moderate amount of strategy balanced with some luck. Some of her favorites include Flamecraft, Meadow, Mycelia, Tea Dragon Society, Dog Lover, Everdell, and Wizard Kittens, as well as any game that includes storytelling.
Cynthia is drawn to games with a bit more strategy, and she enjoys battling foes but typically in a cooperative environment, where the players work together against a common adversary or towards a common goal. Some of her favorites are Pandemic, It's a Wonderful World, Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle, Stuffed Fables, and Unmatched: Slings & Arrows.
Carrie has a preference for farming-based euro-style games, and her some of her favorites include Clans of Caledonia, Wingspan, and Calico.
Prefer to play more classic or party type games? You may use this group to post your own game group gathering! Message Amy for info.

If you like Everdell, you might like Meadow even more. Amy does! Here's the description from BoardGameGeek.com:
"Meadow is an engaging set collection game with over two hundred unique cards containing hand-painted watercolor illustrations. In the game, players take the role of explorers competing for the title of the most skilled nature observer. To win, they collect cards with the most valuable species, landscapes, and discoveries. Their journey is led by passion, a curiosity of the world, an inquiring mind, and a desire to discover the mysteries of nature. The competition continues at the bonfire where the players race to fulfill the goals of their adventures."
Join us at 5pm for social time and eating, and we'll start teaching the game(s) at 5:30.
