Weekly Talks Over Coffee is a series of weekly chat events by Waterloo Young Professionals to meet new friends and talk about anything we feel like to chat about!

✨ Remember when we had to blow into game cartridges to make them work? Or when burning the perfect mix CD for a friend felt like the ultimate gift? This week, our discussion group is diving deep into the nostalgia of the 90s and early 2000s.
We’ll explore the gadgets, pop culture, and everyday moments that shaped that era — the ones that make us laugh, cringe, and feel a little bit sentimental. Whether you grew up with MSN Messenger or Saturday morning cartoons, there’s something for everyone to reminisce about.
Here are some of the things we might talk about together:
- Tech & Gadgets: Flip phones, Walkmans, Discmans, the first iPods, Napster, dial-up internet (“You’ve got mail!”).
- TV & Movies: Cartoons like Pokémon, Rugrats, Sailor Moon, or shows like Friends and Sesame Street.
- Music: Boy bands, pop divas, grunge rock, hip-hop classics, and the thrill of making mix tapes or CDs.
- Gaming: Nintendo 64 battles, Pokémon on Game Boy, the rise of PlayStation and Xbox, and hours spent at arcades.
- School Life: Passing notes in class, playing with gel pens, Tamagotchis, or trading Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh cards.
- Fashion & Trends: Baggy jeans, frosted tips, butterfly clips, slap bracelets, crop tops, and EMO style — which ones should stay gone forever, and which could make a comeback?
- Everyday Life: Renting VHS tapes, listening to the radio countdown, waiting for film photos to be developed, or the drama of losing your AIM or MSN Messenger password.
💬 This is a casual, welcoming discussion — no prep needed. Just bring your stories, your nostalgia, and maybe a funny or embarrassing memory or two. Everyone’s perspective is welcome, whether you lived through it or just love the throwback vibes.
