Poetic Ruzafa Walk: Discover a Barrio in Love (Six Poems & Street Corners)

How do we fall in love with a city, someone, each other, ourselves?
The relationship between architecture, memory, and desire is the subject of this guided walkshop through Ruzafa, both the imaginary barrio and a real neighborhood.

Poetry in translation. A city in motion. You, in love.

A perfect autumn afternoon activity. We'll walk the (un)familiar streets and pause to read/recite/write poems. How many ways can you meet a poem or a lover?! You'd be surprised...

We'll start outside the Parc Central at 15:00 and finish around the Mercado de Ruzafa by 17:00-ish in time for your aperetivo plans.

This walkshop experience is free. The host will pass a hat at the end, but no pressure. The point is to enjoy poetry and walking, to become a walking poem :)

Alexey is a storyteller who teaches criticism at Academy of Art University (San Francisco) and International Fashion Academy (Paris). In 2023 he was on the jury of CLEC Fashion Festival, had an art installation at the City of Arts & Sciences, and presented a one-man show "No Hablo Espanol" at conFusion Fest. He is also a host of Book Lovers Unplugged, a monthly literary open mic at the only English bookstore in Valencia. Most importantly, Alexey is a fulltime Gemini with ADHD.

Come discover & explore three wonder-full parks which together form the beating heart, breathing lungs, and mysterious spirit of Valencia!

We'll start by the statue of King Jaime 1 outside El Cortes Ingles and proceed to familiarize ourselves with the many faces of La Glorieta then cross Turia to dive into the aura of Monforte Gardens and wander through the metaphorical triumphs and literal ruins of Jardin Real/Viveros. Timing is about an hour per park with some staggering in-between. WEATHER PERMITTING.

The host will highlight curiosities and insights along the way
You're also welcome to just wander along in peace
An afternoon for introverts, expats & fab "misfits"

This walkshop is FREE. The host will pass the hat at the end for welcome donations, but the point is to enjoy the city and community.

La Fábrica de Hielo welcomes all the class clowns for a wild reunion!
Eight comedians ranging from the front-row teacher's pets to the back-row baddies are hosted by your favorite substitute teacher Ivana F*ckoff.

A perfect autumn afternoon walk full of wow-now moments!
Let's circumnavigate the historical city center along its ancient walls...
Legendary GPS artist YASSAN initiated #CircleWalk tradition for Pi Day.
It's a great way to (re)discover Valencia wanderlusting on pumpkin spice vibes!

We'll start at 12:00 at Torres de Serrano and explore the monuments, personalities and history trivia along the way: Turia, Plaza Tetuan, Puerta del Mar, Colon, Estación del Norte, Guillem de Castro, Torres de Quart, muVIM & IVAM museums, etc. Let's discover something new about all the places we've passed by "a million times" ... we'll finish at Torres de Serrano just in time for your brunch plans (about two hours).

This walkshop is free to join and enjoy. The host will pass the hat at the end for welcome donations, but the point is to enjoy every step.

Alexey's own first Pi Day Circle Walk in 2022 was inspired by GPS art and La Ofrenda, the ritual Offering of Flowers, that takes place during the Fallas festival.
