Unplugged Commons hosts analog social events that break the spell of the screen. Tech companies design devices to captivate and addict us, and those screens stole our common spaces. We push back.
We curate multiple unique events every week. These gatherings range from board game nights to karaoke, and they all aim at one goal: genuine, face-to-face connection. You do not need to know the rules to join in. Our expert Teachers run games at our events to help you learn the ropes and start playing immediately.

What to Expect at an Event
Welcoming Faces: We actively make sure newcomers find a game and a group quickly.
The Teach: We feature a specific game at our events, and one of our Teachers will teach you exactly how to play it.
Analog Only: We encourage everyone to keep the phones in their pockets and stay present in the moment.

Meet Your Maker: Witch Hunt 1649 with Dr. Monica Evans
Scotland, 1649. Plague, war, failed harvests, and a church cracking down hard. You’re a villager trying to keep your household fed while your health and reputation wear thin. Then the accusations start.Witch Hunt 1649 is a card game about surviving a witch-hunt panic. You’re paired with a partner, so it’s part competition and part cooperation. When you end up on trial, your partner can vouch for you, but standing up for you costs them too. How much would you risk for a friend?
Dr. Monica Evans is bringing it to our table. She teaches game design at UT Dallas and sits on the board of Central Michigan University Press, which publishes the game. She’ll teach it, play it with you, and take your questions about how games get made, from first idea to finished box. She’s someone who builds games for a living, so ask her anything.
