Join me on another Arizona adventure! Please read all details carefully before submitting and RSVP. I’m planning on bringing my dog and I’m looking for a hotel roommate. There will be a lot of driving, and high clearance 4x4 is required for some areas. We will be camping some nights as well.
Here is my tentative plan:
Friday Day 1 - I’ll drive to Prescott area to meet up with a friend and probably won’t do any shooting that evening.
Saturday day 2: Drive to Sedona. Check into hotel. Sunset/blue hour/milky way shoot at Cathedral Rock. The Secret Slick Rock Trail is .7 miles. Sunset is at 7:42. MW is visible 9:29pm. Moonrise is at 10:49. This only gives us a short window, but it’s doable. I booked a room at the Dreamcatcher Inn, Sedona.
Sunday day 3: Sunrise is at 5:13am. May or may not shoot sunrise. Drive to Horseshoe Bend in Page in time for sunset/blue hour/night shoot. Sunset is at 7:47pm. Moonrise is at 11:24. The MW does not directly line up with horseshoe bend at this time from what I can tell, but star trails is an option, or feel free to composite. There is a $10 fee to park. The parking lot has bathrooms. It’s a 1.5 miles roundtrip hike to the overlook. 24mm lens or wider is recommended. At sunset will be shooting into the sun. Do NOT go near the edge. Hotel information will follow.
Monday day 4: Optional sunrise at Horseshoe Bend. Drive to White Pocket. High clearance 4x4 vehicle is required due to deep sandy areas. There are several shooting locations here that I have coordinates for. We’ll camp here for 1 night.
Tuesday day 5: Sunrise in White pocket. Then, I purchased a permit for the Coyote Buttes South area. Endless compositions here. 4x4 is required. Hiking will be up to 4 miles. Permit allows for 5 other people, 6 total. We will camp here as well, information to follow.
Wednesday day 6: Sunrise shoot. We’ll drive to and check into a hotel in Kanab. Then sunset/blue hour/night shoot at an arch in Kanab. 4x4 vehicle is required. Short .2 mile hike.
Thursday day 7: Drive home
Weather could be mid 80s during the day. If it rains, we might need a whole new plan. 4x4 rentals are available in the area.
