About us
Are you thinking of making friends and extend your social circle by going volunteering, learning things, or doing good together? You are looking at the right place.
If you dig deeper, you will find us actually a social org :). For volunteers, and working professionals.
The things we do are very simple, meaningful things in beautiful settings, so connections happen naturally, from shared purpose and experience.
Friendship through civic engagements and shared learnings. That is us - a volunteer community that runs events.
Send us your new in towns, the young professionals, the transplants, the job seekers, the singles, all those that could use new connections.
-----------
So if there is a guild for volunteers that do so socially, excluding the court ordered and school requested ones, that would probably be us :). Yes, most of us are professionals active in their fields, and we take care of our volunteers, mostly from the social side as well. In doing so, we also take on organizing social for the general community as our duty.
We are active mostly in public community events, from huge city parades to suburb town festivals to professional conferences, down to neighborhood fairs, and even other meetups. Perfect occasions for you to join, go places & meet people, check things out, with a group.
We encourage active participation, you can volunteer not only for others' events, but act as hosts as well. We set the stage, you step up and shine.
--------------
These are the main kinds of volunteering and social we do:
- Outdoor, with state parks and other nature orgs.
- Civic, with festivals, big community events etc.
- Professional, with conferences & expos
- Social, we organize community social as a service.
If you are a transplant, community involvement gives belonging. So if you are going through life stage changes, you could take good use of these activities, find your people, (re)build your network, and settle here as your new home base,
So these self-aid and community building is directly in proportion to your social engagement. The more you volunteer & host, the more chances of connection you will make. In hunger of more social chances? Participate and host.
There are different roles to play in helping with a social event, ranking up:
Guide: Be there, be seen
Connector: Talk with people, get people connected.
Host: Read the room, read group's energy. Facilitate others to step up.
Captain: Adapt & organize event series.
We started as festival volunteers organizing social, and we plan to stay true to our community roots. We believe people & social skills can be picked up, as we did. So no charisma required to participate and help yourself, then others. A warm heart, a willingness to try will do. Come to meet your fellow others that share a community heart.
------------
We cooperate with many orgs around town, so you may see our events posted in other places as well.
And our goal? A gateway to local community social, a connection layer to community events, a student activity center for post-college life, a social engine for connections, a town square for working professionals. Oh, have we mentioned some salt? :)
Join an event. Introduce yourself. Find your people. Build the belonging you have been waiting for.
At the end of day, we want to provide belonging, warmth, shared purpose, a human face that says "you're welcome here."
So, Welcome aboard :)

San Jose is going to have its Rose, White & Blue Parade on July 4th, from 10am - 12pm. Plz check out the detailed info at:
https://www.rwbsj.org/San Jose parade is said to be attended by around 50k per year. The present day format started since 2008. A stroll along the parade path is nice, you will see some interesting local orgs, and San Jose specific local culture.
It has a decent parade volunteer program though. Its registration is a bit unusual through a $0 purchase form, but the program is solid. It has volunteer T-shirts, headquartered in a church, with volunteer sandwich, refreshment snacks etc.. You can sign up to see how a local parade is staged. You can also make friends chatting with the other volunteers.

Send us your new in towns, the young professionals, the transplants, the job seekers, the singles, all those that could use new connections, TownFlame welcomes you :).
The Fillmore Jazz Festival is the West Coast's largest free jazz festival, twelve blocks of historic Fillmore Street, multiple stages, 50,000+ people. Check out the musician lineup:
https://www.fillmorejazzfest.com/lineup/By what we learned from our Sunnyvale festival, a few hours working shoulder-to-shoulder is the fastest way to turn strangers into friends. So two tracks to attend the festival:
Festival volunteer track:
For all those that could use new connections. The heart of the day. We take an afternoon shift as a crew, helping run the festival. No experience needed — you'll be paired up and shown the ropes. This year they didn't mention issuing volunteer T-shirt, so bring one if you have from other occasions.
Register below, choose the July 4th 2-6:30pm shift: (P.S. The festival has since revised it to 3-7pm).

Or use the main festival website at: https://www.fillmorejazzfest.com/Festival visitor track:
Walk to the festival, then walk together to each volunteer's post, attend the festival in groups, then regroup for group dinner together after volunteers' shifts ended. The day:
☕ 12:30 — Meet at The Mill (736 Divisadero). Grab a coffee, find the crew, quick hellos out front. Come on time to do the start with the group, otherwise you would come in a room with relation already started.
🌳 ~1:00 — Stroll to the Painted Ladies. A short walk over to Alamo Square for the best skyline view in the city, a group photo, and proper intros on the lawn.
🚶 ~1:30 — Walk in together. A scenic ~15-minute walk up through some of SF's prettiest blocks, straight into the heart of the festival.
🎶 Afternoon — Into the festival. Group volunteering side by side, Live jazz across the stages, food from local kitchens, and new connections you have chatted and walked all the way.
🍜 ~6:30 — Group dinner in Japantown. Festival's right next door to some of the city's best ramen and izakaya — we'll find a table and keep the good company going.
✨ Staying for the fireworks? (Optional & Info only)
Golden Gate Bridge is having fireworks directly from its towers, the 3rd time in history, for the 250th Independence day. Plus barges near Pier 39 and Aquatic Park, starting around 9:30 pm and lasting about 20 minutes. Discuss with your new friends and make a plan.- Crissy Field / Marina Green / Fort Mason — our top pick this year. Wide-open lawns with unobstructed Golden Gate Bridge views, and a straight shot north from the festival. Best angle on the bridge launch.
- Pier 39 / Aquatic Park — the classic, livelier spot, better for the barge show.
- Twin Peaks — a panoramic perch where you can see the bridge, the bay, and the skyline all at once. Risk of fog though.
