About us
We are a group of day-hikers from the Metropolitan New York area (NJ/NY/PA). We hike weekly on over 80 hiking trails within a 60-minute driving radius of our area. We are mostly older hikers (50+), but we welcome adults of all ages, singles, and couples. Our hikes are moderate, typically 5-7 miles-long, with an elevation gain in the range of 750-1,500 feet, and are mostly on trails located in Southern New York and Northern New Jersey. We hike every weekend (Saturday and/or Sunday), and often have additional mid-week hikes.
Most of our hikes do not require prior experience but do require a reasonable level of fitness, and appropriate gear such as hiking boots. Many of our members are seasoned, regular hikers with a wealth of experience and advice for new hikers. Because most wilderness trailheads are only accessible by car, our group works best for those with a car. We do organize several urban hikes (walks) in New York City every year, as well as several regional hikes in the wilderness that are accessible by public transit.
We occasionally organize hiking trips outside our area, typically to National Parks and to other “destination” hiking areas.
We also organize seasonal moonlight-hiking, biking, kayaking, and social outdoor events such as picnics.
All our events are free (except for charges imposed by third parties at special events). Although our events are free, you do have an ethical obligation to follow rules of good citizenship! This includes keeping tabs on your RSVP status, showing up (or canceling in time), and following rules set out by organizers.

Stony Brook and Diamond Mtn
Reeves Meadow Visitor Center, 100 Seven Lakes Dr, Sloatsburg, NY 10974, USA, Sloatsburg, NY, USCircuit Hike #4 is a strenuous 8-mile hike with 1,900 feet of elevation gain. We start at Reeves Meadow and head up the Red Pine Meadow Trail, past the Cascade of Slid, and continue to the Yellow Stony Brook Trail, which leads to the Orange HTS Trail, where we climb Halfway Mountain to the Diamond Mountain Tower. From there, we take the Yellow Trail back to the Red Trail to White Trail, then take a right onto the Blue Seven Hills Trail to the north for 4 viewpoints. We'll turn left on the Orange Trail, which will take us down Halfway Mountain and back to Red and Reeves Meadow.
Our pace will be 2+ mph. Breaks are short, as is lunch. Bring 2-3 liters of water, as the climbs will dehydrate you. We leave on time. Allow 5-10 minutes to park on Seven Lakes Drive and walk to the trailhead. Restroom facilities are available at Reeves Meadow.
If you join this hike and are already on the going or waitlist of another hike, please choose one by noon on Thursday so waitlisted hikers have a chance to participate. Failure to choose may result in the choice being made for you.

Rattlesnake Ledge / Catfish Lake
AMC Mohican Outdoor Center, 50 Camp Mohican Road, Blairstown Road, NJ, USThis is a flexible version of a moderate, very scenic hike along one of the easier stretches of the Appalachian Trail. We will head north from Camp Mohican (maintained by Appalachian Mountain Club) on Rattlesnake Swamp Trail, but in inclement weather, switch to the connector trail to go straight to the Rattlesnake Ledge, and return by the Appalachian Trail heading south. In inclement weather this hike will be 3-4 miles, expanding to 6+ miles in good weather. Let's meet at the far parking lot (past the AMC-Mohican Outdoor Center building) about 10 minutes ahead for departure! Optional après-hike lunch in Blairstown.

Norvin Green 6+ Miles
Weiss Envirmental Center, 159 Snakd Den Road, Ringwood, NJ, USA moderate/strenous hike in Norvin Green. The hike will first climb to Assiniwikam Mountain via the Will Monroe Loop. The top of this mountain is a rock/boulder field. After desending the hike will then climb via the Red trail to Wyanoki High Point. Finally there will be a downhill walk to the parking lot. We will have 2 signifcant climbs which will lead to expansive view points. This is Not a beginner's hike. There no facilities at the site so find a place to stop along Ringwood Ave.
