See all- A Marsh Walk in MattapoisettNeeds location
On May 10, we’ll partner with the Mattapoisett Land Trust. the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra and the Buzzards Bay Coalition to bring to life the 1969 environmental classic Life & Death of the Salt Marsh by John and Mildred Teal.
Their book tells the story of salt marshes: how they form, why they matter, and how fragile they are. Today, the threats are different from when the Teals wrote but they are just as dire: sea level rise from climate change is drowning salt marshes at an alarming rate. Adam Jeffreys from the New Bedford Symphony will join us to explain their renowned educational program which focused a few years ago on the symmetry between music and salt marshes. Weather permitting, he will perform a violin piece for illustration with the backdrop of the marsh behind him– a special not-to-be missed event. The event is free but please sign up at https://southcoastalmanac.com/walking-book-club/ so that we have a good headcount and can send you parking information and weather updates, if applicable
