Sierra Club Delta Chapter

Please join Helen Sierminski for an Urban Nature Walk through the Holy Cross Neighborhood on Sun, May 18th at 9am. We will meet at the Guerilla Garden at 600 Charbonnet St. at 8:45am so we can begin the walk at 9am. Parking can be tricky in this neighborhood. Please be mindful and respectful of where you park. Also remember that if you are coming from downtown, you may encounter trains and/or the bridge opening for boats.
This is a mindfulness walk where we focus on the trees, plants, birds, flowers and lizards that we see in this urban setting. Let’s explore this beautiful neighborhood, admiring the gardens and urban wildlife.
Holy Cross development began in the mid 19th Century on a subdivided plantation. Its boundaries are St Claude Ave, St Bernard Parish, the Mississippi River and the Industrial Canal. Holy Cross is home to the Steamboat Houses, built across from one another in the early 20th Century. These homes resemble Steamboat ships.
Helen is a certified Master Naturalist and is currently serving on the board for the Native Plant Initiative of Greater NO. It is her life’s work to get others excited about nature in urban settings. Bring your binoculars!
